Chapter 1055 Husband and Wife Night Talk
"What are you scared of? We won't get caught. If something goes wrong, I won't be able to run either. But you can always say it was a mistake from abroad or that I threatened you."
The doctor trembled, glancing at the man, trying to see his face clearly, but was too intimidated by his presence to keep looking.
This man was generous, always giving a large sum of money each time he came.
And it was always cash, leaving no trace, quick and convenient.
But can I really earn this money?
The doctor was filled with anxiety.
Night fell.
The King Manor.
The TV was on in the living room, and Sam and Lucy were quietly watching, not making a fuss.
Dinner was being prepared in the kitchen.
Penelope glanced at the time. It was late... why wasn't Kelvin back yet?
She had messaged Ryan in the afternoon, and he said Kelvin hadn't returned to the office.
Where could he be?!
Why was it just like that night, disappearing without a trace!
Just as Penelope was about to call Kelvin, she heard the sound of a car outside.
"Daddy's back." Lucy, who had been watching TV intently, suddenly turned her head towards the window. "It's Daddy."
Penelope looked up as well.
Kelvin got out of the driver's seat, wearing a long black coat, tall and imposing, with a hint of coldness in his eyes.
But more than that... he looked tired.
"Daddy," Kelvin walked into the living room, and Lucy ran over to him, "you're back!"
"Yeah, I'm back to be with Lucy."
Kelvin picked her up and gave her a kiss.
Lucy giggled, "Daddy's beard is so scratchy."
"Is it? Then let me scratch you some more."
Lucy laughed and dodged.
The atmosphere was warm and ordinary.
Penelope watched this scene, smiling, but as she smiled, she suddenly remembered what had been on her mind, and her smile froze.
She couldn't keep smiling.
But she didn't want to show it in front of the kids, so she forced a smile again.
Kelvin was too busy playing with Lucy to notice Penelope's unease.
Otherwise, he would have noticed right away.
Jeff was also smiling.
The King Manor had such a wonderful atmosphere now. Kelvin and Penelope's relationship was stable and loving, and Sam and Lucy were growing up healthy and safe.
Wasn't this the dream life?
"Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis, dinner is ready," Jeff said. "You can go to the dining room now."
"Alright."
Kelvin responded while lifting Lucy up and heading to the dining room, playfully saying, "Time to eat, Lucy."
"Hahaha..."
Lucy laughed even louder as she was lifted high.
Sam rolled his eyes, "Time to eat... Mom, can you believe Kelvin said that?"
"No, but he did."
"What's with the cuteness act? He's not young anymore."
Penelope looked at him, "Did you forget how you used to talk in baby talk in front of your angel Thessaly?"
"I didn't forget," Sam replied confidently, "but I'm young. I'm a kid, I can be cute."
Penelope was silent.
"Alright, go wash your hands," Penelope said. "It's time to eat."
Sam ran to the sink.
But while washing his hands, he accidentally got his sleeves wet.
He didn't mind, dried his hands, and went to eat the usual sumptuous dinner.
Everything seemed just like any other day.
Late at night.
Penelope carefully walked out of Lucy's room, gently closing the door.
Finally, Lucy was asleep.
As for Sam... Penelope glanced at the nearby bedroom. Sam always went to bed early on his own and didn't need much attention before sleep. He should be asleep by now.
She decided not to go in, to avoid waking him.
Sam and Kelvin were both light sleepers, waking at the slightest noise!
Back in the master bedroom, Kelvin was half-lying on the bed, reading a book.
He wore gold-rimmed glasses, and the soft light from the bedside lamp added a touch of warmth to him.
Penelope just watched him.
Kelvin was so engrossed in his book that he didn't notice Penelope had returned to the bedroom.
When his eyes got tired, he looked up to check the time and saw her standing there, quietly watching him.
"Penelope?" Kelvin's voice was deep. "Why are you standing there? Come to bed."
He beckoned her over.
Penelope walked over, her slippers making a soft sound against the floor.
She climbed into bed on Kelvin's side, lying in his arms. "Move over, give me some space."
Kelvin shifted to the side, "You want to sleep on my side tonight?"
"Just for a while, can't I?" Penelope asked. "This bed is ours. I can sleep wherever I want."
He sighed, "Alright."
Penelope nestled into his arms, finding the most comfortable position.
"But why were you standing there silently, watching me?" Kelvin asked. "How long were you there?"
"For a while, a few minutes. You didn't notice."
"How would I know you'd be staring at me so quietly?"
Penelope looked up at him, "I noticed you have a different aura now. It's something you never had before."
Kelvin raised an eyebrow, "Really?"
"A scholarly air, especially with those glasses," Penelope took off his glasses, "you look like a gentle college professor, not a decisive and powerful CEO."
"At home, there's no need for decisiveness and power. In our home, you're the boss," Kelvin said. "At the office... you're also the boss. You're my major shareholder, my big boss."
Penelope laughed.
These nightly conversations with her husband made her feel at ease.
They could talk freely, say whatever they wanted, and when they were tired, they could close their eyes and sleep until morning, as if all worries were far away.
"You've changed... Kelvin." Penelope rested her head on his chest. "You're not as cold, arrogant, and aloof as when I first met you."
"That's because we had just met, and I hadn't fallen in love with you yet."
When you loved someone, how could you bear to be cold to them?
You just wanted to show them your gentlest, best side!
Penelope sighed, "If you had fallen in love with me earlier, that would have been great... we could have enjoyed this happiness sooner."
No delays.
No wasted time.
Life was only a few decades, over thirty thousand days, one less each day.
"Now... now is also good, Penelope."
Kelvin's fingers ran through her soft hair, gently combing it.
