Chapter 1022 Coughing Blood Again!

Kelvin suddenly started coughing again.

Penelope looked up at him. "Why is that cough still hanging around?"

"The dry weather's messing with my throat."

"I think my dad has some medicine that might help," Penelope said. "I'll ask him about it."

"It's nothing, just a minor issue."

"Seeing you cough every other day doesn't seem minor to me."

Kelvin brushed her hair gently. "With you taking care of me, I feel better already."

Even though his throat itched, he held back, only letting out a few light coughs. He didn't want Penelope to worry.

"I've got a meeting soon," Kelvin said. "Do you want to chill in the office for a bit or head back to the jewelry department?"

"Of course, I need to get back to work. Do you think I can just slack off because I'm the boss?"

He laughed. "You have billions and still work hard. You're a role model."

"Exactly," Penelope said seriously. "Mr. Davis, you'd better work hard too, or I'll dock your pay."

"Got it. I'll make sure Mrs. Davis is satisfied."

Then Kelvin suddenly remembered something. "You remember the password to my bank card, right?"

"Yes."

"Are you sure?"

"Of course," Penelope nodded, looking at him curiously. "It's our kids' birthdays, right?"

Kelvin relaxed and leaned in to kiss her. After a moment of affection, Penelope left the CEO's office, her lips still glistening.

It seemed like every time she left Kelvin's office, he had to steal a taste.

In the office, Kelvin sat on the couch, resting his head on his hand, staring off into space. His throat started itching again. Now that he was alone, he could cough freely, and he did so until his ears turned red and his throat felt worse.

Kelvin covered his mouth with a tissue, unable to stop coughing. After several seconds, he pulled the tissue away to see a bright red stain.

Blood.

He was coughing up blood again.

Kelvin closed his eyes, unable to suppress the fear and frustration any longer. It overwhelmed him, consuming all his rationality and emotions.

He had been comforting himself that it was nothing, just a minor issue. Maybe it was from smoking too much before. Smokers often cough, right?

But seeing the blood again shattered all his self-assurances.

This was blood!

Coughing up blood repeatedly!

Kelvin didn't dare think about what it meant.

He took a deep breath, crumpled the tissue, and threw it in the trash. He loosened his tie and sank deeper into the couch.

After a few silent seconds, he kicked over the trash can and stood up. He couldn't hold back his agitation any longer; he needed a solution.

Kelvin walked to his desk, picked up the phone, and dialed a number.

"Hello..."

"It's me," Kelvin said. "Have the test results from abroad come in yet?"

"Mr. Davis, not yet."

"How long will it take?"

"Please hold on."

After a few seconds, the voice on the other end said, "If everything goes smoothly, we should have them by early morning. Because of the time difference, we'll receive the results in the early hours here."

Kelvin pressed his lips together. "I'll come by first thing tomorrow."

"Understood, Mr. Davis. We'll schedule an appointment for you."

He hung up the phone, his hands trembling as he leaned on the desk.

Kelvin had been living in such happiness lately, a joy and peace he had never known before. The happier he was, the more uneasy he felt, as if God might take it all away.

At first, he didn't think much of the cough. With his strong constitution, even a severe cold would pass in a couple of days. He was always active and fit.

But the blood in his cough made him anxious, and now he was terrified.

He hoped the test results from abroad would show everything was fine.

Kelvin slumped into his chair. He had instructed Timothy to "be loyal" to Penelope and transferred his shares to her because he feared he had a terminal illness and didn't have much time left. He wanted to attend to the most important things while he could.

If the diagnosis was confirmed... Kelvin closed his eyes. There were still so many things he needed to do.

Stay calm, stay calm... No rush, he would know the results tomorrow.

He hoped it was just a false alarm.

Late at night.

At the Walker Mansion.

The study lights were still on.

People were constantly coming in and out of the study, indicating something serious was happening.

A knock on the door sounded again.

"Come in," Brandon's voice was filled with exhaustion.

"Mr. Walker." The person who entered kept their head down, looking unremarkable and humble.

Brandon's frown eased slightly when he saw him. "Why are you here? Do you have any new information?"

This was an employee from the CEO's office at the Davis Group, handling some minor, peripheral tasks.

"I'm here to report. Mr. Walker, today Mr. Davis met with the chief lawyer from the legal department, Dwight, and also called in Mr. Foster and Mrs. Davis. I don't know the specifics, but with that lineup, it must be an important decision."

"Dwight is the most authoritative lawyer at Davis Group. He only shows up for major events."

"And..."

Brandon listened intently, growing impatient when the man paused. "And what? Keep talking!"

"When I went to deliver some freshly printed documents to Mr. Davis, I noticed the door wasn't fully closed. I overheard Mr. Davis on the phone with someone from the hospital."

"The hospital?"

"Yes, discussing test results and picking them up tomorrow. Mr. Walker, I hope this information is helpful."

Brandon fell into deep thought after hearing this.

After a while, he nodded. "Got it."

He then opened a drawer and took out some money. "This is for you."

"Thank you, Mr. Walker! Thank you!"

"Keep a low profile and continue observing," Brandon instructed. "Report back if you hear anything else... There will be more rewards for you."

"Yes, sir!"

Brandon looked out at the night sky and suddenly smiled.

Kelvin had Thessaly's help and had obtained evidence, putting Brandon in a passive position where he couldn't take any action. But... there was always a way out!

And now, an opportunity had presented itself!

Half an hour later, the detective appeared in the study.

"Mr. Walker, it's late... What do you need?"

"How's the investigation going?" Brandon asked. "Why haven't you reported on Kelvin's hospital checkups?"
