Chapter 1044 Sam and Lucy Will Know Someday

Kelvin bore all the pain alone.

Should he let her face the illness with him, or push her away and endure it by himself?

Kelvin found it hard to decide.

Penelope suddenly murmured, her delicate brows furrowing slightly.

"Kelvin, Kelvin..." she whispered, calling his name.

"What's wrong?" He held her hand. "Penelope, I'm here, I'm here."

Penelope clutched his hand tightly, her brows relaxing as she drifted back to sleep.

Kelvin kissed her fingertips.

The sky gradually darkened.

When Penelope woke up, she felt disoriented, staring at the ceiling for a long time before coming to her senses.

"Where am I?"

"The emergency room," Kelvin's deep voice answered. "Penelope, you're finally awake."

She turned her head to look at him, her eyes clear but helpless.

"If you didn't wake up soon, I was going to call the doctor again."

"I... I don't know what happened," Penelope said. "Suddenly everything went black, I saw double, and then I knew nothing."

Kelvin ruffled her hair. "I told you not to get upset over people who aren't worth it. And look what happened? Penelope, you got so angry you fainted and ended up in the hospital."

She pouted, feeling a bit wronged. "You're blaming me."

"I'm worried about your health," Kelvin said. "What if you get sick from being so upset?"

"It's not that easy to get sick... I'm as healthy as you are."

She said it without thinking, but Kelvin took it to heart. He paused, then smiled slightly. "You little fool."

"Let's go home," Penelope said, pushing herself up from the bed. "I don't like staying in the hospital. It smells like disinfectant, and endless expanse of whiteness..."

"Alright."

As Penelope was about to get out of bed and put on her shoes, Kelvin scooped her up in his arms.

"I can walk by myself," she protested.

"And I can carry my own wife."

The hospital was crowded, and Kelvin carried her out without a care, making Penelope a bit embarrassed as she buried her face in his chest.

The driver was already waiting at the entrance.

On the way home, Penelope leaned against Kelvin, feeling too tired to muster any energy.

Neither of them mentioned the troubling matters, sitting quietly together.

When they arrived at The King Manor, it was completely dark outside.

"Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis," Jeff greeted them. "I was just about to call and ask if you were coming back for dinner. Sam and Lucy have already washed up."

As he finished speaking, Sam and Lucy came running out of the bathroom.

"Daddy, Mommy!" Lucy's sweet voice called out.

Seeing Lucy, Penelope felt a rare sense of peace.

No matter what, she still had Kelvin by her side and two adorable children.

Everyone else might leave her, betray her, hurt her, but...

"Kelvin," Penelope asked, turning to him, "even if Brandon becomes a stranger, someone I can't recognize, you won't, right?"

In the past, Kelvin would have answered "yes" without hesitation.

But now... he wasn't so sure.

He felt guilty!

Maybe soon, he would change too.

Kelvin's hesitation weighed heavily on Penelope's heart, like a huge stone pressing down on her, making it hard to breathe.

Just as she was about to ask him again, Sam's loud voice interrupted, "What are you talking about, changing like a robot? Constantly changing?"

With his hands in his jeans pockets, he struck his signature cool pose.

"No matter what, Dad, Lucy, and I will always be by your side. Isn't that obvious?" Sam shrugged.

He clicked his tongue twice. "Women, always so insecure. It's okay, I understand and will tolerate it."

Penelope fell silent.

Sam added, "Time to eat, Mom. I think you're just dizzy from hunger, which is why you're feeling insecure. Look, your face isn't as rosy as usual."

Lucy nodded. "Sam's right, Mommy, your face is so pale."

Penelope touched her cheek and smiled. "Maybe I was just too busy at work today. Look, it's already dark by the time we get home."

"Then you should rest early tonight. Sam and I can do our homework, play, and get ready for bed by ourselves," Lucy said. "You don't need to worry about us."

The kids were so well-behaved and understanding.

Looking at them, Penelope suddenly sighed.

"What's wrong?" Kelvin asked, patting her head. "Still worried about Brandon?"

"I'm just thinking about how to tell the kids that their Uncle Brandon is actually a..."

Bad person?

It didn't seem right to define Brandon in such simple terms.

People are complex, multi-faceted.

"Then don't say anything for now," Kelvin said, leading her to the dining room. "You must be hungry. Let's eat first."

Penelope lowered her head. "But Sam and Lucy will find out one day that Uncle Brandon isn't the person they thought he was."

As Brandon faded from her life, he also distanced himself from the kids.

She couldn't understand why. Why?

Why couldn't they remain lifelong friends, closer than family, always offering mutual support and assistance to one another?

Why did it have to end so badly?

The dining room was filled with delicious aromas, and the meal was sumptuous.

Penelope poked at her pasta, having no appetite.

"Eat a little," Kelvin said, putting some food on her plate. "Don't starve yourself."

"I..."

She pouted and took a few bites, finding the food tasteless.

"Mom, why are you eating so little?" Sam had already eaten more than half of his pasta. "Look, I'm almost done, and your plate is still full!"

Lucy glanced at her own plate. "Mommy, I've eaten half of mine too."

Sam looked at Penelope, then at Kelvin.

He suddenly leaned over and nudged Kelvin's shoulder. "Is there some news you need to tell us?"

Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "News?"

Sam was smart, but not that smart, right? Could he already tell?

"Yeah," Sam said. "Is Mommy having a baby brother or sister?"

Kelvin fell silent.

Okay, maybe he had overestimated his son a bit.

"Only pregnant women lose their appetite and can't eat," Sam said. "Or they're sick or angry."

Kelvin put a piece of chicken on Sam's plate. "Eat your food and talk less."

Sam gave Kelvin a disdainful look, then sat back down and continued eating.
