Chapter 8

Penelope was overjoyed and shouted with all her might, "Kelvin, save me!"

The screeching sound of tires on the ground was heard, and before the car even stopped, Kelvin had jumped out.

He walked quickly, the hem of his suit flying up, his eyes filled with anger.

"Who do you think the Jones Family are?" Kelvin's thin lips curled. "By tomorrow, I can make the entire Jones Family disappear from LA!"

Audrey tried to speak, "Kelvin—"

Kelvin kicked Audrey away without even looking at her.

He walked straight to Penelope and picked her up. "Are you hurt?"

She shook her head. "No, almost."

"What were you running around for?" Kelvin asked. "Is the Davis Group not big enough for you?"

She couldn't possibly say she was out job hunting when she ran into Lily and the others.

Penelope had to stay quiet.

"Kelvin, why are you here?" Lily asked with a forced smile. "I was just messing around with her."

Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "Messing around?"

Lily nodded. "Yeah, yeah."

He picked up the knife from the ground and tossed it at Lily's feet. "Why don't you try cutting your own face for fun?"

Lily stammered, "This..."

Kelvin urged, "Do it!"

"Kelvin!" Audrey stomped her foot. "Why are you defending this woman so much?"

"Because she's my wife!" Kelvin's gaze was cold. "If I don't defend her, should I defend you?"

Audrey looked at Penelope with jealousy.

Penelope, however, couldn't say a word. The reason Kelvin was so angry was that he believed only he had the right to bully and humiliate her.

No matter how much he hated and tormented her, he wouldn't let anyone else lay a hand on her. It had to be him personally.

Kelvin's sweet words were just for show; she neither needed nor dared to take them seriously.

As she was thinking this, she suddenly felt herself being lifted.

Kelvin picked her up horizontally, and Penelope gasped, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.

Realizing the intimacy of the gesture, she quickly let go.

"You should be grateful she's not hurt," Kelvin uttered, his face expressionless and his tone icy. "Audrey, on behalf of the Jones Family, I'm going to discipline you! Go back and reflect on your actions for a month! No going out!"

"Lily!" he continued. "Don't expect to get a single cent of your living fees this year!"

For Lily, this was the most painful punishment.

After marrying Vincent, she had gotten used to a luxurious lifestyle. Even after Vincent's death, she still received $30,000 a month from the family fund.

Cutting off her money for a year would be unbearable for her.

Lily retorted, "No, that's the money your father gave me."

Kelvin spoke, "Two years!"

Lily was furious. "Kelvin, you..."

Kelvin spoke out, "Three years!"

Kelvin was known for keeping his word.

Now, Lily and Audrey were in for a tough time.

Back at the King Manor, Jeff saw Penelope's disheveled state. "Mrs. Davis, what happened to you?"

Penelope answered, "Nothing. It looks worse but I'm not hurt."

Kelvin sat on the sofa, tugging at his tie. "Not hurt? Then what's that on your palm?"

Penelope was startled; he had noticed.

"Besides causing trouble for me, what else can you do?" Kelvin looked at her with a heavy gaze. "I punished Lily and Audrey for you. Are you proud?"

She quickly waved her hands. "I didn't think that."

He sneered, "Penelope, no one else is allowed to touch your face. Unless I ruin it myself!"

Kelvin glanced at the fruit knife on the coffee table.

Penelope flinched.

Kelvin urged, "What are you standing there for? Can't you read the room?"

She had no choice but to hand him the fruit knife with both hands, quietly defending herself. "I didn't do anything wrong today."

Kelvin sneered, "Running around is your mistake."

Penelope bit her lower lip and lowered her eyes.

She had no choice but to obey his words.

The cold blade once again pressed against Penelope's cheek.

"Penelope, you see, once you leave me, there are so many people who want to harm you," Kelvin lightly tapped her face with the tip of the knife. "But by my side, only I can torment you."

She closed her eyes tightly, not knowing when Kelvin would strike.

Perhaps she had been oppressed for too long, or maybe she thought that since her face would be ruined anyway, Penelope actually retorted, "If anyone else bullies me, I can resist and fight back. But I can't resist you!"

Kelvin replied, "Because you owe me!"

Penelope silently screamed in her heart, 'No, I never owed you, and the Cooper Family didn't owe you either!'

The knife pressed down bit by bit, just a little more force and it would break the skin.

Suddenly, the phone rang urgently.

Kelvin picked up the receiver. "Hello, Grandpa Liam."

"Come to the old house immediately!" Liam Davis shouted, "Right now!"

Kelvin asked, "What is it?"

"And bring your new wife!" Liam hung up the phone.

Kelvin looked at Penelope meaningfully.

Her eyes were filled with panic, yet she tried hard to remain calm, which was quite amusing.

"You're lucky," Kelvin lifted her chin with the tip of the knife. "I'll spare your face for now, so as not to scare my grandpa with the blood."

"Get ready and come with me to the old house," Kelvin instructed, "You have five minutes."

Penelope stumbled to her feet and quickly changed her clothes and tied her hair.

Compared to the luxurious castle style of the King Manor, The Davis Mansion was a grand and imposing courtyard-style residence.

As soon as they entered the living room, Lily pointed at Penelope and screamed, "Mr. Davis, she's here! She's Dr. Cooper's daughter! Kelvin actually married her!"

With one sentence, everyone's expressions changed.

"Kelvin, you're simply unfilial!" Liam trembled with anger. "Her father caused your father's death, and you actually..."

Lily quickly tried to calm him down. "Mr. Davis, please calm down. Your health is important. As soon as I found out, I came to discuss with you what to do about this!"

Liam snapped, "You must divorce immediately!"

"Kelvin, I'm not trying to criticize you," Lily sighed hypocritically, "But how could you marry the daughter of your enemy without informing us?"

Having lost three years of her living fees, Lily was not willing to let it go.

She couldn't do anything to Kelvin, so she targeted Penelope, hiring a detective to investigate.

Unexpectedly, the investigation revealed Penelope's secret identity!

Lily didn't hesitate to inform Liam, pressuring him to confront Kelvin.

She wanted to add more fuel to the fire, but Kelvin's sharp gaze made her shut up, though her face was full of resentment.

"Yes, she is Dr. Cooper's daughter," Kelvin replied, "But the mistakes of the previous generation shouldn't be imposed on the next."

Penelope looked at him in surprise.

Kelvin was lying; he clearly held a grudge against her!

Liam pounded his cane heavily. "I think you've lost your mind! Kelvin, don't forget, you have a marriage contract, and it was arranged by your father himself!"

Kelvin insisted, "I will only marry the person I want to marry."

"You," Liam clutched his chest, almost unable to catch his breath.

Penelope stood by Kelvin's side the whole time.

It wasn't her place to speak unless Kelvin indicated otherwise.

To be honest, she didn't understand why Kelvin wanted to marry her.

Penelope thought this to herself and unconsciously muttered, "Why didn't you marry Audrey?"

As soon as she spoke it, she regretted it.

Wasn't this asking for trouble?

Kelvin emphasized, "Didn't you hear what I just said? I marry the person I like."

Penelope asked, "So you like me?"

Could she consider he had feelings for her after two years of torment?

Kelvin coldly curled his lips. "Penelope, you think too highly of yourself!"

"I'm afraid you'll fall in love with me," Penelope lowered her head, twisting her fingers. "When two people stay together for a long time, it's hard not to develop feelings."

Kelvin raised his chin slightly. "You think I would sleep with you? Impossible!"
