Jessamine felt she was so smart and clever. She definitely wouldn't end up like Thessaly, who had the best resources in the entire entertainment industry, got a good hand, and then ruined everything!
All that drama with Paul, the accusations, quitting her lead role, dropping out of the movie... Thessaly did all that, one foolish move after another!
If Jessamine could get close to Kelvin, she would rise higher and higher, solidifying her position and dominating the entertainment industry!
Thinking about the movie, Jessamine suddenly remembered something.
"Mr. Davis..." she said, "There's something I want to ask you."
"Go ahead."
"The lead role in 'Bright Life,' Thessaly isn't doing it anymore. Has anyone else been cast?"
Kelvin raised an eyebrow.
He immediately understood what Jessamine was thinking.
"This movie... You want to act in it?"
Jessamine was a bit excited. "Can I? Is there a chance?"
She knew that many top actresses were vying for this role!
Even though Thessaly had turned it down, the chances of winning an award were very high, and everyone wanted to prove their acting skills through awards and break into the film industry!
"The movie isn't my investment, so I don't have the final say," Kelvin replied. "But, if you want other resources... I can help you with that."
Jessamine nodded repeatedly. "I understand, Mr. Davis!"
Kelvin nodded, glanced at his watch, and asked, "Anything else?"
Jessamine, sensing the cue, said, "No, Mr. Davis. I'll... leave now and come back tomorrow."
"Alright."
Jessamine left the office reluctantly, looking back every few steps to make sure Kelvin had no intention of stopping her before finally walking out.
Kelvin kept his head slightly lowered, not looking at her at all.
He was deep in thought.
What he imagined and what he actually experienced were two completely different feelings!
Kelvin thought he could tolerate Jessamine. After all, he needed to utilize her; she was important right now, and he needed to win her over.
Jessamine was the key to getting Penelope to leave him.
Moreover, to make his act more convincing, he didn't get too close to Jessamine right away but chose to take it slow.
That's why he let Jessamine stay in the office, trying to get along with her step by step, to avoid feeling too repulsed and wanting to throw her out.
But after trying it out, Kelvin realized that he couldn't tolerate any woman in his eyes or heart.
Any woman.
Even if Jessamine was just sitting there, he tried his best to ignore her and focus on his work, but he still felt uncomfortable.
Every time he caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye, he wanted her gone!
Kelvin had to fight hard to endure it, just to get through the afternoon peacefully.
Just one afternoon was so hard for him to bear. What would he do next?
Kelvin leaned back in his chair, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed, the frown on his forehead deepening.
Suddenly, a wave of pain surged in his chest. He quickly pressed his hand to his chest and coughed hard, tasting the metallic tang of blood in his throat.
He was all too familiar with that taste!
Just as he was about to reach for a tissue, he heard Penelope's voice outside the door.
It was soft and faint, but he heard it clearly despite the good soundproofing.
She was here!?
Kelvin immediately pulled his hand back, not daring to reach for the tissue.
If he wiped the blood and threw the tissue in the trash, Penelope might see it, and then he wouldn't be able to explain.
To be safe, Kelvin couldn't let her discover any hint of his illness!
He had no choice but to swallow the blood back down.
Outside the office.
"Ryan," Penelope said, her hands in her coat pockets. "It's time to clock out."
"Mrs. Davis..."
Ryan was startled to see her, stammering a bit.
Penelope was here.
Luckily, that actress Jessamine had just left! If Penelope had come five minutes earlier, she would have run into Jessamine!
Although Ryan knew that Kelvin and Jessamine were innocent, he couldn't help but worry that Penelope might see Jessamine!
Penelope noticed Ryan's unusual behavior.
"What's wrong with you?" Penelope asked, puzzled. "Do I look that scary? Am I that fierce?"
"No, no, Mrs. Davis, you're as gentle and kind as an angel. How could I be scared?"
"But Ryan, you don't look quite right."
Ryan waved his hands. "I'm fine, really! Just a bit overwhelmed with work, so... you should go in. Take Mr. Davis home early, so I can clock out early too."
Penelope nodded, not thinking much of it.
The work in the executive office was indeed a lot and very chaotic. Ryan had been in this position for so long, it was quite tough on him.
She would mention to Kelvin later that he should give Ryan a raise!
Just as she was about to respond, the office door opened.
Kelvin walked out.
"Mr. Davis!" Ryan called.
Penelope turned around and smiled sweetly at him. "I haven't even gone in yet, and you're already out?"
"I heard your voice."
"Did I disturb you?"
Kelvin shook his head. "Not at all."
With that, he took her hand. "Let's go home. Let's have dinner with Sam and Lucy. It's been a while since we all ate together."
Counting the days, he could still spend a few happy days with his family he loved most.
But inside Kelvin's heart, it was a wasteland.
A desolate place.
Penelope nodded and was about to leave when she noticed Ryan looking at their intertwined fingers and burst out laughing.
"Ryan."
"Yes?" Ryan snapped out of it. "What is it, Mrs. Davis? Do you need something?"
"Why were you staring at me and Kelvin holding hands?"
Ryan scratched his head.
He thought there could never be a relationship crisis between them in this lifetime.
Kelvin's deep and unwavering love for Penelope was known throughout LA!
So, Jessamine's appearance was just a coincidence.
There must be something going on between Kelvin and Jessamine! Ryan thought to himself.
Penelope had no idea what Ryan was thinking.
