Chapter 778 Revive Brian at All Costs
He slowly opened his eyes, just a slit, and glanced at Penelope.
"Penelope." After saying that, he closed his eyes and fell back asleep.
He was so tired, so exhausted, so much in pain, with no strength left.
"I'm here," Penelope responded. "Just sleep well, everything is fine now. I'm safe, and so are you."
Sam didn't respond, quietly sleeping.
Penelope placed a kiss on his forehead.
The doctor arranged for Sam to stay in a private room, not needing to go to the ICU.
It was clear that his condition was very stable.
Meanwhile, there was news from Brian's side.
"Mr. Davis." The captain stood at the door of the hospital room and knocked.
"Speak."
"Brian's surgery is over, and he's out of immediate danger," the captain reported. "However, his injuries are still severe. Whether he can survive depends on the follow-up. The doctor said he might need to stay in the ICU for at least half a month."
Kelvin pondered for a few seconds and then said, "Do everything to save him. Also, send a private jet to bring in top surgeons from abroad to treat Brian. Use all available resources if necessary, don't wait for my approval, and spare no expense to save Brian."
"Yes, Mr. Davis!"
The captain secretly sighed, thinking Brian was really risking his life.
If he lost, both Brian and Sam would be dead.
If he won, the Davis family would owe Brian a life.
Not everyone would dare to take such a gamble.
The captain didn't quite understand why Brian did it.
Was it for wealth and glory?
But what good was it if he was dead?
What was Brian thinking? Why did he do it?
At that time, almost all of Kelvin's bodyguards were present, but in the end, only Brian stepped up and dared to risk his life.
If Brian survived this time, good days were ahead for him!
"That's great," Penelope said upon hearing the news. "As long as there's a glimmer of hope for Brian, I won't give up on him!"
Kelvin said, "Penelope, none of us will give up on him."
"Yes, Kelvin, Brian is our family's savior."
Without him, maybe the one who fell with Isabella would have been Sam.
Penelope didn't dare to think further.
Fortunately, she just needed to wait for Sam to wake up.
Seeing the white bandages wrapped around his neck, Penelope felt heartbroken.
She stood by his side, the only thing she could do was quietly keep watch.
Nicole and Connor looked exhausted but also relieved.
No words could express their feelings except "It's good that everything is fine."
"Dad, Mom," Penelope looked at them, "I'm here with Sam, you should go home and rest. I'll let you know when he wakes up."
Connor nodded, "Alright, there's nothing much I can do here."
"Penelope, you need to take care of yourself too," Nicole said. "Your voice is still hoarse, talk less, drink more water, and have some throat lozenges."
"Don't worry, Mom." She got up to see them off.
When she returned, there was a cup of warm water and a box of throat lozenges on the table by the bed.
Penelope felt a warmth in her heart.
It was obvious that Kelvin had prepared it.
There was also a note: [I'm going home first, I'll come back in the evening. Contact me anytime if you need anything.]
Penelope put a throat lozenge in her mouth, the cool sensation soothing her throat, making it less dry and painful.
She looked out the window and realized it was already dark.
She didn't know how she got through the day in a daze, only now catching her breath.
But at this moment, she felt a deep sense of security.
The King Manor.
Kelvin walked into the living room and heard Lucy's sweet childlike voice, "Daddy!"
His expression softened, "Lucy."
"Why are you home so late? Were you working overtime at the office?" Lucy blinked her big eyes. "I've been waiting for you to have dinner."
Kelvin walked over to her and patted her head, "Why didn't you eat?"
"I wanted to eat with you. It's no fun eating alone. By the way," Lucy looked around, "where's Mommy?"
"She has something to do, she won't be coming home tonight."
Lucy's little face scrunched up, "Why? What could be so important that she can't come home? Without Mommy, who will tell me stories and put me to bed?"
She pouted, very dissatisfied.
"I can tell stories too, Lucy," Kelvin said. "I can do everything Mommy does."
Lucy reluctantly nodded, "Alright then."
Kelvin picked Lucy up.
He knew that Penelope's mind was entirely on Sam, and she wouldn't leave the hospital room.
So, he came home to take care of Lucy.
It was better not to let Lucy know about the dangerous situation Sam was in.
It might scare her.
Kelvin had dinner with Lucy, helped her with her homework, did crafts, checked her work, and finally told her a story to put her to sleep.
Although he was a bit rusty, he was very patient.
Kelvin held a storybook and finished the fairy tale, "The queen was punished, and the prince married the princess, and they lived happily ever after."
"Daddy, you tell stories the best," Lucy said contentedly. "Mommy always tells only half of the story."
"Why?"
"She says the story is too long and I should go to bed early."
Kelvin instinctively glanced at the time.
It was indeed a bit late.
He really didn't have much experience with kids.
"You should sleep now," Kelvin said softly to Lucy, "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Daddy."
He got up to turn off the light and happened to see a drawing on the table.
It was a family portrait Lucy had drawn last time.
A family of four. Sam was in the picture, standing next to Penelope.
At that time, Kelvin had a lot of issues with Sam's presence.
But Penelope and Lucy insisted on keeping Sam in the picture.
Thinking back now, Kelvin realized he had been so foolish.
No wonder Lucy had called him foolish back then!
Seeing him staring at the picture, Lucy asked, "Daddy, did I draw it well?"
"Yes, Lucy, you drew it very well."
Lucy's eyes sparkled, "Daddy, Sam must be in this picture, standing between you and Mommy. Do you understand?"
Kelvin sighed softly.
He finally understood.
When Lucy was drawing this picture, Penelope had already made up her mind to explain everything to him.
