Chapter 930 The Person She Least Wants to See is Brandon!
"I'll stay with you a little longer," Kelvin said. "I'll be in the master bedroom with you, not the study."
"Work..."
"Work can wait. You're more important."
Kelvin bent down and scooped Penelope up, carrying her back to the master bedroom.
Holding her feet, he gently scolded, "You can't be running around barefoot anymore. What if you step on something and hurt yourself? Or catch a cold?"
The slippers were right by the bed, but she hadn't worn them.
Penelope replied softly, "I... I just wanted to see you quickly."
Her voice was so small, yet it melted his heart instantly.
"Penelope."
Kelvin lay down with her, holding her close as they drifted off to sleep again.
With him there, she felt safe.
But as they lay together, Kelvin fell asleep first.
He hadn't slept at all the previous night, his mind exhausted from working in the study. With his beloved woman in his arms, her sweet scent relaxing him, he quickly drifted off.
Feeling Kelvin's breathing become steady, Penelope looked up at his sleeping face.
His chin had a rough stubble; he had been too busy to shave.
She gently touched it.
"Kelvin..." she whispered, "I love you so much, really love you. But this time, I'm the one who messed up."
"What should I do? I've let you down."
"I can't get past this... I don't want a divorce. I don't want Sam and Lucy to grow up in a single-parent home. But I don't know how to face you, or our kids."
"Can love make up for everything, including loyalty?"
"But the foundation of love is loyalty."
Penelope knew Kelvin didn't blame her because she had been manipulated, completely unaware of the situation.
However, being unaware didn't mean it hadn't happened.
She was deeply bugged.
He would mind too, but he would hide it well, never letting it show.
Penelope's hand gently traced his features.
She loved him so much. After years of marriage and weathering storms together, they were inseparable.
Penelope would never fall for another man.
Kelvin wouldn't be interested in another woman.
They were the perfect couple.
With Penelope in his arms, Kelvin slept deeply, his usual vigilance relaxed.
Penelope slowly and carefully slipped out of his embrace, got out of bed, and left the master bedroom.
"Mrs. Davis," the butler greeted her as she came downstairs. "Would you like something to eat?"
"Yes."
No matter what, she needed to eat.
She couldn't let her health deteriorate.
It was already noon, and the weather was nice. The sun hung brightly in the sky, its rays piercing the ground.
Penelope stood by the window, raising her hand to shield her eyes.
Sunlight filtered through her fingers.
How wonderful, the crisp autumn air and bright sunshine.
Last night's filth and disgrace seemed never to have existed.
She had never been to a place like that motel before.
Growing up in an orphanage, she had little memory of it. Later, living with the Cooper family, she had a good life, never experiencing hardship. The places she frequented were never dark or musty.
Despite the sunlight, she felt cold and rubbed her arms.
She walked out of the villa and stood in the garden.
"Mrs. Davis," a servant ran up to her, "there's a guest here to see you..."
"Who is it?"
"Mr. Walker."
Penelope's eyelashes fluttered lightly.
Why was he at The King Manor?
The last person she wanted to see right now was Brandon!
"Mrs. Davis, do you want to see him?" The servant asked, noticing her expression. "Or should I tell him you're not home?"
"I'm standing right here in the garden. He can see me from the gate."
Penelope sighed.
She might as well see him.
She didn't know why Brandon had come. To apologize?
It was pointless because it wouldn't have helped or meant anything.
Brandon stood at the gate, quietly watching Penelope.
Even from a distance, he found her incredibly beautiful. And... he couldn't help but recall her sleeping beside him.
Penelope had a faint natural scent, not from perfume, but her own body, which was very alluring.
Her skin was so delicate.
Brandon thought, if Kelvin's bodyguards had been five minutes late... just five minutes, he would have truly had Penelope.
He had dreamed of tasting her so badly!
But... it didn't matter. Everyone believed he had already been with Penelope, including Penelope herself!
Only Brandon knew the truth!
And this time, he had almost succeeded. Next time, he would completely possess her!
Each attempt brought him closer to success!
A sound pulled Brandon from his thoughts.
Penelope walked out.
"Brandon," she said, looking at him with no expression, "why are you here?"
"I..."
Brandon looked like he was struggling to find the right words, wanting to show concern but unsure of how to do so.
He even took a step back, afraid of being too close and making her discomfort.
Penelope felt a bitter ache in her heart.
How should she interact with Brandon in the future? What attitude should she have when facing him?
She didn't want to see Brandon at all.
It wasn't that she hated him, but every time she saw him, Penelope would remember that night at the motel!
It haunted her, impossible to shake off!
After a long pause, Brandon finally spoke, "Are you okay, Penelope?"
"No." Penelope replied, "How could I be okay?"
"I'm not okay either. I... I'm sorry."
"If you're just here to apologize, you can leave." Penelope said, "I don't accept it."
Brandon looked at her, anxious, "Do you hate me?"
"I hate myself."
"Penelope, you did nothing wrong. In this whole situation, you are completely blameless. Don't take the blame and responsibility on yourself," Brandon said. "It's my fault. I failed to protect..."
Penelope interrupted him, "Enough!"
She didn't want to hear it.
Repeating the details of last night was just torturing her, exposing her wounds over and over!
"Okay, I won't talk about it," Brandon said. "I heard... Kelvin has found a suspect."
Penelope was shocked, "What?"
"You didn't know? I came from the restaurant. It's closed now and no longer operating. The manager said Kelvin's people took a waiter away. The waiter admitted to tampering with the water."
Penelope hadn't known about this.
