Chapter 1075 Shadow on the Lung

Could Kelvin have sensed something was off with his health and transferred all his shares to Penelope ahead of time?

"Nothing," Timothy said, his face serious as he shook his head. "Let's just wait and see."

At this point, any guess was just that—a guess.

Staying calm was the most important thing!

The light outside the emergency room stayed on.

Penelope sat helplessly on a chair, feeling cold all over. No matter how much Tina tried to warm her up, it didn't help.

"Penelope, want some water?"

"I asked the nurse to get you something to warm your hands."

"Do you want to eat something? It's been two hours already."

Tina's concern was clear, but Penelope just shook her head, staring at the emergency room door.

After a long while, she asked, "Timothy and Monica aren't back yet?"

"Not yet. I'll text them."

"Forget it," Penelope stopped her. "Anyone who knows anything is in the emergency room."

Penelope understood this well but chose not to voice it.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the light outside the emergency room went off.

Penelope felt a wave of darkness wash over her.

She stood up abruptly and rushed to the door, anxiously waiting for the doctor to come out.

The doctor's words would be the final verdict!

Because she moved so quickly and stood up too fast, she felt dizzy, her vision going black.

Thankfully, Tina caught her. "Penelope."

After a few seconds, Penelope pushed her away and almost collapsed at the emergency room door.

As soon as the doctor came out, she asked, "How is my husband?"

The person inside was her husband, the father of her children, the one she was supposed to spend her life with.

He couldn't be in danger.

Penelope was already thinking about how she would explain things to their two kids if something happened to Kelvin.

"He's out of danger for now, everything is stable," the doctor said. "The anesthesia hasn't worn off yet."

Hearing this, Penelope felt half of her burden lift.

No life-threatening danger!

He was alive!

That was good! That was good!

"When will he wake up?" Penelope asked. "Will it be today?"

"He should wake up before nightfall, no major issues."

She breathed a sigh of relief.

"That's great, that's great," Tina said. "Penelope, did you hear that? Mr. Davis is fine, he's safe!"

Penelope finally felt a bit of warmth spreading through her body.

She no longer felt like she was floating, like she was walking on clouds. Instead, she felt a solid sense of security.

"Doctor," Penelope asked, "why did my husband suddenly collapse? He's always been healthy, never sick."

The doctor replied, "The exact cause of his collapse is still unclear. For now, the main issue is a shadow in his lungs."

A shadow in his lungs?!

What could that mean?

"It's already been sent for testing. The results will take about two days," the doctor said. "We'll notify the family once we have them."

Penelope nodded, her mind filled with thoughts of the "shadow in his lungs."

Could it be from smoking too much?

But in her memory, Kelvin smoked occasionally but wasn't addicted. He was always very disciplined and could go without smoking if he wanted to.

Before Penelope could figure it out, the nurses wheeled the bed out of the emergency room.

Kelvin lay on it, fluids coursing through tubes affixed to his hand, an oxygen mask on his face, and various tubes attached to him.

Penelope's tears started to fall uncontrollably.

She didn't want to cry, but she couldn't help it... The Kelvin who used to comfort and support her was now lying there, lifeless, needing her care and companionship.

She was consumed by profound despair.

"Penelope... what happened?" Tina was scared, quickly wiping her tears. "Didn't the doctor say everything is fine? Mr. Davis is safe; there's no life-threatening danger. You don't need to worry."

Penelope couldn't explain why she was crying so hard.

It was just a momentary feeling.

She was scared.

While waiting outside the emergency room, she was scared something would happen to Kelvin.

Now, seeing him being wheeled out, she was scared of a future without his presence.

Penelope thought, if Kelvin were gone... how would she go on?

She was so used to his presence that without him, she felt like a soulless shell.

She couldn't lose her husband, and Sam and Lucy couldn't lose their father.

Penelope gently placed her hand on Kelvin's.

His hand was cold, without a trace of warmth... even though he often warmed her hands.

"Kelvin," Penelope called softly. "You need to wake up soon, as soon as possible. I'm waiting for you. Don't make me wait, don't make me so scared, okay?"

No response.

No, he just couldn't respond right now.

The nurses moved Kelvin to a hospital room.

Penelope sat by his bed, keeping him company, her eyes red and dry, slightly swollen.

"Penelope," Monica walked in. "I just asked the lead doctor. Kelvin's condition is stable, and there's no life-threatening danger. He should recover after a few days in the hospital."

"Got it."

"Maybe his collapse wasn't due to illness but from being overworked or stressed? The test results aren't all in yet, but the ones we have are good."

Penelope nodded.

Monica held up a bag. "I also got you some food. It's hot and delicious, your favorite shrimp. You need to eat something while you're here with Kelvin."

"Just leave it there," Penelope said. "Monica, you and Timothy should go back to the office. I'll be alone for a while."

She wanted some time alone.

Too many friends offering comfort didn't really help.

She understood that.

"Okay." Monica knew what she was thinking and placed the food on the table. "Remember to eat."

Penelope kept her eyes on Kelvin, looking a bit worn out.

"Oh, Timothy," Penelope suddenly remembered. "Don't tell the Davis family about Kelvin's situation. I don't want Liam to worry and hurt himself."

"Okay."

Penelope smiled. "Thank you. I'm glad you're here."

"Don't mention it. It's what I should do."

Timothy looked at Kelvin lying in the hospital bed, feeling uneasy himself.
