Chapter 879 Kelvin Sleeps on the Floor
But Kelvin wouldn't say anything bad about Brandon to Penelope.
If he did, she definitely wouldn't believe him. She'd think he was overreacting, trying to tarnish Brandon's reputation, and it would just create tension between them.
And that was exactly what Brandon wanted!
So, Kelvin simply said, "I don't feel comfortable with you going anywhere alone."
"I can take care of myself. I want to grow old with you and watch Sam and Lucy grow up."
He gently stroked her silky hair. "Penelope, I need you by my side, always."
She nodded.
Kelvin's lips curled into a slight smile.
No matter what Brandon was up to, no matter what sneaky moves he made behind the scenes, Kelvin wasn't afraid.
He would protect Penelope with unwavering determination.
Brandon better not give him any reason to act.
Otherwise, Kelvin wouldn't hold back!
He wouldn't let anyone take Penelope away from him! He'd make sure to eliminate any threats!
"What did you get Brandon for his birthday?" Kelvin asked. "Tell me."
Why was he suddenly curious about that?
But Penelope answered honestly, "A scarf."
Kelvin's expression changed. "Did you knit it yourself?"
"No, I bought it at the mall," Penelope quickly explained. "I don't have time to knit a scarf!"
Even if she did, she wouldn't dare knit one for Brandon!
That would be stepping right into Kelvin's danger zone!
But still, Kelvin was bothered.
"Penelope," he said, "you've never bought me a scarf."
"In the closet, there's a whole section just for your scarves!" Penelope looked up at him in the dark, seeing his prominent Adam's apple. "Wool, cashmere, all kinds of colors; you have everything. Why would you need me to buy you one?"
"Not a single one of those scarves was bought by you."
Penelope sighed. "Fine, I'll buy you one. When your birthday comes, I'll get you a scarf too, okay?"
Why did this man have to nitpick over such small things?
Sometimes she thought he was so broad-minded and generous.
Other times, he remembered every little detail!
"Oh," Kelvin said, "so in your mind, I'm on the same level as Brandon. His gift is a scarf, and mine is too."
"Kelvin,"
"You're efficient, Penelope. No need to think about what to get me, just buy the same thing."
Penelope conceded, "Then I'll get you a different gift, okay?"
"How insincere. It seems you don't want to give me a gift."
She was about to lose it.
What did he want from her?
"Just say it," Penelope saw through his game this time. "What do you want?"
"I want you to knit me a scarf."
"Fine." She agreed. "I'll knit! I'll start as soon as I have time!"
Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "You need to have time?"
"I'll go buy yarn tomorrow and start knitting!"
Kelvin finally nodded, somewhat satisfied. "Alright, good."
Penelope breathed a sigh of relief. At least she had made him happy!
"But Penelope, the scarf isn't a birthday gift," Kelvin said. "It's just a token of your affection, made by your own hands."
"Kelvin!" Penelope couldn't hold back. "Will you ever stop?"
He was practically squeezing her dry, exploiting her!
Where would she find the time to knit a scarf?
She had to work during the day, take care of the kids after work, and spend time with him at night!
So, Penelope could only use her spare moments, knitting stitch by stitch.
When were her spare moments?
During lunch breaks, after dinner!
This meant Penelope would be knitting a scarf in the office and at home every day!
How conspicuous, how showy!
Everyone would know she was knitting a scarf for Kelvin!
He'd be so proud!
"Speaking with such energy? Not in pain anymore? No more backaches?" Kelvin pressed to her lower abdomen. "Not sleepy?"
Penelope was about to answer when she suddenly remembered something and kicked him.
Kelvin lifted his knee, pinning her down. "What, trying to murder me?"
She smiled sweetly at him.
Kelvin felt a bit flustered. He could never resist her bright, radiant smile.
Then he heard Penelope ask, "Did you forget something?"
"Hmm? What?"
"Sleeping on the floor!" Penelope poked his chest. "Who gave you the courage to sleep in the bed, right next to me, so confidently? Did you think I forgot?"
She had indeed forgotten, but it had just come to her.
But she couldn't let Kelvin know that!
However, Kelvin was even more composed. "Oh, I just wanted to take care of you."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. It's what I should do."
"Get down." Penelope pushed him. "You made a mistake, so you sleep on the floor. That way, you'll remember not to get too close to other women next time!"
She threw the pillow and blanket down.
And then she kicked Kelvin off the bed.
Kelvin stood by the bed, holding the pillow, looking helpless.
No choice, he had to pamper her.
"Sleep on the floor or in the guest room, your choice." Penelope sat on the bed, watching him with a triumphant look. "If I catch you sneaking back into bed in the late night, you'll sleep on the floor for an extra week!"
Kelvin didn't answer her. He quietly made the bed on the floor and lay down.
He admitted his mistake, accepted his punishment, and deserved it.
If he ever touched another woman again, he'd cut off his hand!
Penelope turned off the light and comfortably stretched out on the spacious bed.
Enjoying a two-meter bed all to herself, it was great!
She pulled up the covers and closed her eyes.
Half an hour passed.
An hour passed.
Two hours passed.
The sky outside was starting to lighten, with a hint of dawn, but Penelope still hadn't fallen asleep.
She had insomnia! She wasn't sleepy at all! She was wide awake and excited!
What was going on?
Was it because she had napped at the hospital?
But she had only slept a little in the ambulance and woke up shortly after being transferred to the room.
Penelope tossed and turned in bed.
If this kept up, it would be morning soon!
At that moment, Kelvin's deep voice broke the silence. "Penelope, you're still awake?"
"Hey? You're not asleep either? Is the floor too hard?"
"It's because you keep tossing and turning, making noise."
He was a light sleeper, and with Penelope constantly moving and sighing, how could he sleep?
"Alright, I admit I disturbed you," Penelope confessed. "I have insomnia, and I don't know why."
