Chapter 949 The Veil Made by Lucy, the Ring Made by Sam
Seeing her puzzled look, Kelvin said, "I just found out myself."
"It's not you? Then who could it be..." Penelope glanced at Sam and Lucy.
Sam had just run to turn on the string lights and was now coming back, coughing loudly, "Penelope, just stay put, don't move. Lucy! Where's your stuff?"
Lucy came running over, holding something in her arms, a bundle of white.
"Here, here! Mom," she panted, "you're... you're too tall, lower your head a bit."
Penelope had no clue what the two kids were up to.
But she went along, crouching down and lowering her head.
Lucy took out what she was holding, and as the wind blew, it fluttered gently.
Penelope finally saw what it was.
A veil.
A pure white veil!
It even had a tiny crown on it, simple, with a pink clip attached.
"Mom, let me put it on you," Lucy said. "Don't move, I made this myself."
"You made the veil?"
"Yeah, I asked my crafts teacher to show me. Isn't it pretty? I think it's even better than the ones in the store!"
Lucy carefully secured the veil in Penelope's hair, adjusting it meticulously.
"All done!" she clapped her hands, "So beautiful!"
The veil was large and long, almost touching the ground, enveloping Penelope completely.
It added a layer of dreamy beauty.
Penelope was surprised and deeply moved.
"Lucy, why... why did you suddenly make me a veil?"
"Because I've never seen you in a wedding dress, Mom. I can't make a dress, but I can make a veil," Lucy replied. "Wait, there's something else. Sam, get it out."
Sam pulled a box from his pocket.
He handed it to Kelvin, "Here, I made this too! You, put it on Mom, and remember to be sincere, be romantic! Oh, and you have to kneel on one knee!"
Kelvin took it.
He didn't open it, but he had a good guess about what was inside.
A ring.
Lucy's handmade veil had already surprised him, but Sam making a ring?
When did these two little ones come up with this idea?
Penelope stood quietly in place.
The veil had a magical quality; wearing it, she felt like she was in a fairytale.
And her prince was standing right across from her.
Kelvin stepped forward, the box resting in his palm, looking so small.
"Dad, propose!" Lucy cupped her hands around her mouth like a megaphone, "You owe Mom a proposal! Sam and I got everything ready for you today, all you have to do is do it!"
In Sam and Lucy's minds, Mom had everything she needed, except for a grand wedding and a romantic proposal.
A wedding would have to be Kelvin's job.
But a proposal, with all its creativity and atmosphere, was something they could handle!
This morning, on their way to preschool, Sam and Lucy shared their plan, and by evening, they had pulled it off!
Now, it was up to Kelvin to take it from here!
Kelvin's throat tightened, and for some reason, he felt a bit nervous.
His hands were shaking.
Even though he kept taking deep breaths, he couldn't calm the flutter in his heart.
"Penelope, I..." Kelvin started, then swallowed, his voice catching.
Who would've thought he'd need his kids' help to propose one day?
"I know you're already my wife, and we'll be together forever," Kelvin said, holding the ring box and looking into her eyes. "But thinking back, I've never made you a grand promise."
"If we had a wedding, during the ceremony, we'd vow together—whether rich or poor, in sickness or in health, we will never leave each other, we will always love each other."
"The ring... is from Sam. Your veil, Lucy made it. They're not expensive, but they're priceless."
As she listened, Penelope's eyes grew moist.
She blinked, but the tears only fell more.
Kelvin lowered his head, slowly opening the box in his hand.
Penelope's gaze followed the box.
When they saw the "ring" inside, both she and Kelvin burst into laughter.
It wasn't a ring at all, but a small grass ring.
But the grass ring was delicate and exquisite, with a natural green hue, and a pink wildflower set into it.
Lucy had made the veil, and Sam had made the ring.
Kelvin and Penelope were completely taken by surprise!
"This is the most beautiful, most unique ring I've ever received or seen," Penelope said, "the most beautiful, without a doubt. It's one of a kind, and only I can have it."
She was deeply touched.
This time should have been the lowest point in Penelope's life, with everything going wrong.
Yet, her life was filled with so many wonderful, joyful things.
Timothy and Monica finally got together; Kelvin gave her a "Vesper Davis," and the kids planned a proposal for her and Kelvin, complete with a venue and props... so many beautiful things surrounding her, reminding her of how blessed she was.
But Penelope was still trapped in the events of that night, unable to fully embrace this beautiful atmosphere!
What a shame, and how sad!
Sam proudly declared, "I wove it myself, it took a long time to finally make one that looked decent! Kelvin, hurry and put it on Mom! Wait, you're doing it wrong, you have to kneel on one knee first!"
Kelvin nodded, "Okay."
He carefully removed the grass from the box, handling it with great care, as he was afraid of damaging it.
Then, Kelvin bent his knee, kneeling before Penelope.
He held the ring high.
Sam and Lucy stood nearby, bouncing with excitement, but they didn't dare make a sound, afraid of interrupting.
They whispered to each other,
"I suddenly feel like we're so lucky to witness this moment."
"We planned it, of course, we have to witness it."
"But when other dads propose to moms, the kids aren't even around yet! They haven't even made it to their mom's belly!"
"Kelvin is making up for past regrets."
On the lawn, the lights twinkled, the breeze blew gently, and a faint fragrance filled the air.
Penelope looked at Kelvin kneeling on one knee, and her tears were about to spill over.
