Chapter 876 It's Because... My Period Came
Kelvin was filled with regret and frustration.
Why didn't he insist on taking her to the hospital? If he had, none of this would have happened!
One moment of hesitation had led to such serious consequences!
The doctor checked Penelope's vitals. Everything seemed normal...
But Penelope had already passed out.
To be precise, she had actually... fallen asleep!
She was utterly exhausted, in pain, dizzy, and nauseous, with a burning sensation inside her body.
If she weren't so weak, she would have taken a cold shower and run ten laps to burn off this inexplicable heat!
So, as soon as Penelope's head hit the pillow, even though she was in an ambulance, she closed her eyes and fell asleep immediately.
Kelvin stayed by her side the whole time, never letting go of her hand.
It was unclear how much time had passed when Penelope slowly woke up.
When she opened her eyes, she saw doctors and nurses in white coats surrounding her. She was lying on a hospital bed.
"She's awake, she's awake! Doctor, she's awake!"
An older doctor came over and asked, "Can you hear me? Can you respond? Are you conscious?"
Penelope nodded and even propped herself up on the bed. "I..."
After a bit of sleep, she felt a little better, not as uncomfortable as before.
"Don't move, don't move," a nurse quickly held her down, looking very anxious. "We're still trying to figure out why you're bleeding. Your husband is outside, worried sick, almost breaking down the door to get in..."
At that moment, Penelope wished she could disappear into a hole in the ground.
The attending doctor looked serious. "All your vitals are perfectly normal. Do you feel any discomfort?"
"Well..." Penelope coughed. "I'm fine, it's just..."
Under the watchful eyes of all the medical staff, Penelope said, "It's just my period. The cramps were really bad this time, worse than ever before. My husband panicked and called an ambulance right away..."
"I'm sorry, really sorry for the trouble and for using up medical resources. I'll cover all the costs myself. I'm truly sorry!"
What?
Period cramps?
She just had period cramps?
The whole hospital was on edge, unable to find the cause of Penelope's condition, while Kelvin was outside, refusing to leave, ready to shut down the hospital if she wasn't cured!
They were just short of calling in the hospital director!
And it turned out... it was just her period?
The room fell into a minute-long silence.
Penelope felt incredibly awkward.
After a while, the doctor said, "Give her a painkiller. If the pain doesn't get worse in half an hour, she can be discharged."
"Okay, doctor," the nurse replied.
After taking the painkiller, Penelope leaned back against the headboard.
When she had just left the restaurant, she felt like she was dying, in extreme pain, feeling like she would pass out any second.
But she knew it wasn't anything serious.
Now, after causing such a big misunderstanding...
The nurse's expression towards her had changed.
Penelope hung her head, feeling like she had become infamous in the hospital.
"Penelope!" Kelvin rushed in, his face serious, looking at her pale face. "You, I... we..."
He glanced at her flat stomach.
His hands, hanging by his sides, trembled slightly, showing how hard he was trying to control himself.
"It's okay, it's okay." It was unclear if Kelvin was comforting himself or Penelope. "As long as you're safe."
"Kelvin..."
"Yeah?" He sat down by the bed, holding her hand and kissing it gently. "I'm listening, go ahead."
Penelope looked into his eyes. "Did the doctor tell you?"
Kelvin hesitated for a moment before answering, "No. He... told me to ask you myself."
Wow.
Even the doctor was speechless.
Penelope coughed. "So, do you want to know?"
"Of course!" Kelvin replied. "Penelope, whether it's good or bad, I need to know. Your health is the most important thing. You can be mad at me, blame me for being too close to Thessaly, but you must take care of your own health, okay?"
"I'm fine, really. After a bit more rest, I can go home."
Kelvin was stunned. "Go home? You don't need to stay in the hospital?"
"No, because..." Penelope pulled him closer. "The reason I bled so much and ruined your pants is because... It's just my period."
Kelvin was stunned again, forgetting to blink.
He paused, seemingly unable to process it.
This answer was beyond his expectations.
He had thought about what the doctor might say, what Penelope might say, but he never expected...
This answer.
So much so that Kelvin wondered if he had heard wrong.
"Penelope," he asked, "can you say that again?"
"In simple terms, I got my period, had cramps, and the blood was menstrual blood," Penelope said quickly. "I'm not pregnant, I didn't have a miscarriage, my body is perfectly normal and healthy... I didn't expect it to be this painful this time."
Kelvin stared at her, unblinking.
Penelope felt a bit uneasy under his gaze and tightened her grip on his hand. "I wanted to tell you, but you were so anxious and kept talking, I couldn't find a chance to interrupt! Just as I was about to say something, I heard the ambulance getting closer... it was too late."
"Plus, I was really uncomfortable at that time, feeling nauseous and weak, with cold sweat on my back."
"It sounds like just cramps, and a painkiller would fix it in half an hour. But girls know, when it really hurts, it feels like dying."
The room was silent.
So silent that they could hear the footsteps outside.
Penelope asked again, "You... must have seen the calendar by my bed, right?"
"Yeah."
"I mark it every month, except for last month and this month, because my period hadn't come yet."
Kelvin's lips formed a straight line. "Your period came today?"
"Yeah, I noticed it this morning at work."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Penelope muttered, "I was mad at you. How could I share something so private with you?"
She had planned not to tell Kelvin on purpose, to keep him on edge, making him think she was pregnant.
When the time was right, she would tell him she wasn't pregnant at all.
