Chapter 904 Competing with Me for a Woman Will End Badly
Kelvin knew Brandon would handle things meticulously, leaving no traces or evidence to avoid getting caught.
It was a matter of who would outsmart whom.
Both Kelvin and Brandon were aware of each other's intentions.
But neither could show it, let alone make it public.
Brandon wasn't dumb enough to admit anything.
Kelvin wasn't dumb enough to accuse Brandon without evidence.
Kelvin muttered to himself, "Trying to steal my woman won't end well for you."
He used to have some respect for Brandon.
After all, Brandon had genuinely helped Penelope and had always been a gentleman, never doing anything to wrong her.
During the four years Penelope faked her death, it was Brandon's careful care that made a difference.
But now, Kelvin saw Brandon as cunning.
A good person had changed so much.
One day, Brandon's true colors would be revealed, and when that day came...
Kelvin's eyes darkened.
He wondered what Penelope would think.
The friend she trusted the most, the person who helped her the most, was now doing shady things behind her back.
It would be best if Brandon stopped now and took no further action.
If that happened, Kelvin could turn a blind eye, pretend nothing happened, and consider it a momentary lapse of judgment on Brandon's part, something forgivable.
But if it continued, Brandon would be on a path to destruction.
In the jewelry department.
Penelope sat at her desk, resting her chin on her hand, glancing at her computer screen, and then at Monica's office.
Her gossip-loving heart was itching. She wanted to ask Monica how things were going with Timothy.
Had she agreed or not?
Were they together or not?
But if she asked, Penelope was afraid of disturbing Monica's thoughts.
What if she said something wrong and Monica decided Timothy wasn't the right guy?
Penelope sighed, switching hands to continue resting her chin.
Behind her, a cheerful humming sound started.
"Tina?" Penelope turned to look, "What's got you so happy?"
Tina's eyes were clear and bright. "What? Nothing."
"Don't try to hide it. You're humming and practically skipping. Share the good news with me."
"It's nothing, Penelope. I have to get back to work."
With that, Tina picked up her bag and started packing it with documents and files.
"Where are you off to?" Penelope asked, then suddenly thought of something, "You're not going to see Mr. Smith, are you?"
Tina's face turned bright red. "Keep your voice down, don't let anyone hear."
"Seeing Mr. Smith is part of your job. So what if people hear? Only those with guilty consciences worry about others knowing."
"Penelope, stop teasing me."
Seeing Tina's shy and hopeful expression, Penelope couldn't help but smile.
"Alright, I won't tease you," Penelope said. "Take your time, no rush to come back. If there's anything urgent, I'll handle it. Spend some quality time with Mr. Smith. Maybe even have dinner and build some rapport!"
"Mr. Smith is busy, Penelope. He's been working late every night, his eyes are red from lack of sleep."
"Feeling sorry for him? Then take him some eye drops."
Tina blinked. "I already did!"
"Wait, I have something else for you to give Nathan," Penelope said, opening a drawer and pulling out a sachet. "This is for better sleep. I made it myself."
Tina took it. "A sleep sachet?"
Penelope looked proud. "Yep. Spray a bit of your usual perfume on it, so it has a faint scent. Every time Nathan smells it before bed, he'll think of you."
"Thanks, Penelope!"
Tina happily accepted it.
Penelope leaned in and whispered, "This is my secret weapon. Back in the day, I used this sleep sachet to win over Kelvin!"
Though Kelvin had initially been reluctant to accept her gift, he eventually used it and couldn't do without it.
Tina was even happier. "If it worked on Mr. Davis, then I..."
She trailed off, embarrassed.
"Yes, I'm waiting for your good news!"
Watching Tina walk away, Penelope thought that her job had turned into matchmaking, just like Kelvin said.
Worrying about Timothy and Monica.
Worrying about Nathan and Tina.
And she even wanted to set up Brandon and Thessaly.
Maybe she should start a matchmaking service, professionally helping people find love!
Just as she was thinking this, someone tapped her on the shoulder.
Penelope jumped and quickly turned around.
"Mr. Foster," she sighed in relief, "You scared me. Do you guys always walk so quietly? Kelvin does the same thing."
Timothy looked serious as he pulled up a chair next to her.
"What are you doing?" Penelope asked, testing the waters, "Did Monica reject you?"
"No."
"Then why the long face?"
"She didn't reject me, but she didn't accept me either," Timothy said. "I'm a bit anxious."
He couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, and couldn't focus on work.
He didn't dare approach her.
With no other options, Timothy came to Penelope for help.
"Didn't she say she needed three days to think?" Penelope replied. "It's not over yet."
Timothy scoffed. "Do I have to wait three days like an idiot?"
"What do you want to do then?"
"You go ask her," Timothy said seriously. "You girls share secrets and stuff. Help me find out."
Penelope shrugged. "Honestly, I'm afraid to ask. Monica is very decisive, not someone who wavers. She has her thoughts. If I start praising you, she'll probably guess I was sent by you."
"Why would she guess that so quickly?" Timothy asked. "Have you been badmouthing me to her?"
"No wonder things never quite clicked between us. You've been sabotaging me, ruining my chances!" He murmured, "This isn't fair, Penelope. We have no grudges, why would you do this to me?"
Penelope gave up trying to explain.
