Chapter 918 You're the Purest

If the aim had been just a little more precise, Brandon wouldn't have died!

Brandon was equally terrified, still in shock.

Breaking the silence was Penelope.

"It hurts," she whispered.

Kelvin quickly asked, "Where does it hurt? Are you injured?"

He hurriedly dropped what he was holding, his entire focus on her.

"My ears," Penelope said, "They hurt, they're ringing. I can't hear anything, just a tiny bit of sound, so faint."

She watched Kelvin's lips move, saw the worry etched on his face, and guessed what he was saying.

But she couldn't hear him.

The gunshot had been too loud for her, especially since she had just woken up. She couldn't handle such a high-decibel sound all at once.

If Penelope hadn't raised her hand to stop Kelvin, who knew in his rage, Kelvin might have taken Brandon's life!

He wanted nothing more than to tear Brandon apart, piece by piece!

Kelvin's broad palm covered Penelope's ears. "It's okay, it's okay, it'll be better soon."

It was unclear if he was comforting her or himself.

Penelope leaned into his embrace, inhaling his scent, finally feeling a bit of peace.

As long as he was there, she could relax by his side, no matter what.

Through thick and thin, he would shield her.

After a while, Penelope swallowed, and the ringing in her ears began to fade.

But it was still very quiet around her, so quiet it felt like she had lost her hearing.

"Kelvin."

"I'm here."

As soon as Penelope spoke, Kelvin responded immediately.

"Why is it so quiet?" she asked. "Is it my hearing that's gone bad, or is it really this quiet?"

Kelvin didn't know how to answer her.

It was indeed silent all around, eerily so.

Because no one dared to make a sound at this moment!

He paused, about to speak, when Penelope sat up from his embrace and looked around.

What she saw made her freeze completely.

Brandon stood in the corner, shirtless, his head slightly lowered.

Kelvin was holding her, sitting on the edge of the bed, and she had been lying in his arms the whole time.

Penelope looked around, it was a completely unfamiliar place she had never been to before.

It seemed like a shabby motel room.

Memories from before she passed out flooded back to Penelope!

The restaurant, the private room, Brandon, Thessaly, Paul, the dizziness, the blackout... and then, now! This very moment!

Penelope murmured, "Why am I here? Where is this? What happened?"

Her memory only went up to the private room, the last second before she blacked out!

Penelope felt a bone-chilling cold.

She gripped Kelvin's sleeve tightly, trying to stand up from his embrace.

But she had no strength, and he held her firmly. "Don't move, be good, Penelope, just stay in my arms."

This place was too dirty, so dirty that Kelvin didn't want Penelope to touch anything there!

"We're going home." Kelvin tilted his head and kissed her earlobe. "Penelope, we're going home, it's okay now."

He made a move to stand up, but Penelope looked up. "Why am I here? Kelvin, you haven't answered my question."

Penelope's eyes were gradually clearing.

She seemed to have guessed something.

How was Kelvin supposed to answer?

From the moment he walked into this room, he had hoped she wouldn't wake up because all of this was too terrifying and cruel for her!

"Where's Thessaly?" Penelope asked again. "Where is she? Where's Paul?"

"Why am I in a room with Brandon?"

"Kelvin, why are you here?"

With each question, Penelope's heart grew colder.

She had guessed something, but she didn't dare to think in that direction!

Penelope looked down at her own body.

Her clothes were intact, not torn, not removed, perfectly in place.

Kelvin tried to hide the truth even though he was in agony, even though he was furious.

But he knew Penelope couldn't handle the harsh reality.

She was so strong, so proud. How could she bear what happened between her and Brandon?

Kelvin's Adam's apple bobbed. "There was a little incident."

"A little incident?" Penelope suddenly laughed, a bitter and sorrowful laugh. "No, I don't believe you, you're lying to me."

She raised her hand, pointing to the bow on her dress.

"When I wore this dress, the bow was tied on the left side. But now, this bow is on my right side."

What did this mean?

Her dress had been taken off and put back on!

Kelvin's eyes darkened.

He hadn't paid attention to such details; his only thought was to get her dressed.

But in his haste, he made a mistake.

A single bow and Penelope had figured it out.

The blackout, the motel, the room, Brandon... all these pieces connected, and Penelope understood.

Her body trembled uncontrollably.

Kelvin felt it and tightened his arms around her. "Penelope, don't overthink it."

"How can I not?" Penelope wanted to speak calmly, but her voice was already choked with tears. "Kelvin, am I..."

She couldn't continue, couldn't face that reality.

She was weak, she was scared!

Kelvin's large hand pressed against the back of her head, holding her to his chest, kissing her hair over and over. "No, you're the best, the purest."

His chest felt a warm wetness.

It was Penelope's tears, soaking through Kelvin's shirt!

She was crying!

Kelvin's heart ached with every tear!

He had once sworn to himself that he would never let his Penelope shed a single tear again, that he would make her forever happy, joyful, and beautiful!

Even if she cried, it would be tears of joy, not sadness or pain!

Kelvin's eyes reddened too.

But he couldn't break down!

In this situation, he had to be strong, to be Penelope's support!

Brandon watched this scene, a cold smile in his heart.

Did Kelvin think a few words could cover up what had happened?

Was it that easy?

Could simple words outweigh Brandon's meticulous planning and scheming over these days?

"Penelope..." Brandon spoke then, "I, we..."

He paused, silent for several seconds, finally saying, "I'm sorry."

Penelope's body trembled even more.
