Chapter 1041 Brandon Is the One Who Planned All This!

"Then..." Brandon continued.

Penelope covered her ears. "Enough!"

She didn't need to hear anymore; she understood everything!

She knew exactly what had happened next.

She and Thessaly had been taken to the hotel by Brandon and Paul!

Paul had assaulted Thessaly.

And Brandon... Brandon had intended to assault her, too! But he hadn't succeeded!

Just then, Kelvin's bodyguards arrived, and Kelvin quickly followed, stopping everything in time.

And Brandon... from start to finish, he played the innocent, pretending to be a victim, acting like he knew nothing!

But the truth was, Brandon was the mastermind behind it all!

Penelope vividly remembered that when she opened her eyes, she saw Kelvin and Brandon facing off.

Kelvin's hand was steady, ready to pull the trigger.

If she hadn't grabbed his wrist in time to stop him, who knows what terrible consequences might have ensued! Brandon might have been dead!

But the Brandon she had saved and trusted the most... had done so many things behind her back!

"Why..." Penelope asked, tears welling up in her eyes. "Brandon, tell me why. Give me a reason... How could you become like this? Why did you do this? Do you know how much this hurt me?"

"I... I'm sorry..."

"I hate hearing 'I'm sorry' the most!"

Penelope tried to hold back, but her emotions finally erupted.

If it were someone else, she could treat them coldly, without a ripple of emotion, because those people didn't matter.

But this was Brandon—her most trusted friend, someone she considered like a brother, even Sam and Lucy held Brandon in high regard.

"Do you know how I felt after that night? Do you know how I got through it? Do you know how I survived? Brandon, all this pain and hurt, it was all brought by you!"

"I thought... we had sex, and our relationship was no longer pure. I felt dirty, scrubbing my body under the shower until my skin was raw."

"I even thought about... divorce." Penelope's tears slowly slid down her cheeks. "I felt I wasn't worthy of Kelvin anymore, that I shouldn't stay by his side. I was about to lose everything I had."

"Who would have thought, Brandon, that you were the one who set me up! You were the mastermind behind it all!"

Thinking back to that time, Penelope felt like she was living in hell, in utter darkness.

The worst pain wasn't being constantly unhappy.

It was a state of happiness, then suddenly plunged into misery!

This was indeed the most terrifying and tormenting of all!

She almost left Kelvin, almost lost her happy marriage.

It was Kelvin who accepted her, comforted her, and stayed by her side without a hint of disdain.

He also secretly searched for evidence to prove her innocence and find the mastermind behind it all.

In places Penelope could see and couldn't see, Kelvin had done so much.

"Penelope, yes, I deserve to die. I was blinded by my desires and did such hurtful things..." Brandon replied. "But my original intention was just to be with you. Penelope, I love you."

"Sorry" and "I love you" coming from Brandon's mouth made Penelope feel sick.

Utterly sick!

"Didn't we agree?" Penelope asked, her voice trembling. "To be forever friends, family, always supporting each other, always understanding each other, without any barriers! You promised me! But you turned around and broke that promise!"

Brandon felt a pang of regret, but it wasn't for what he had done—it was for getting caught. He had been so close to succeeding, so close.

Kelvin's diagnosis of "lung cancer" would have led to actions, preparations for the end, giving Brandon more confidence to win Penelope back! Now, it was all ruined!

"Penelope, we've known each other since we were kids. Our bond is so deep, I can't just step back into the role of a friend... I can't!" Brandon said, desperation creeping into his voice. "You're the woman I must marry. How can I just let go and let you be with Kelvin!"

Penelope stared at Brandon, feeling like she was looking at a stranger.

"So, because you couldn't let go, you decided to destroy me?" Penelope asked, her voice breaking. "Creating the illusion that we had sex, causing a rift between me and Kelvin, breaking our relationship, making our marriage unsustainable... Then you would appear by my side, comforting and caring, and finally win me over, right?"

"Penelope, I can give you just as much as Kelvin can!"

Penelope listened and then laughed bitterly. She wiped her eyes harshly.

"Brandon, besides the hotel incident, you must have done other things!" she said. "We've known each other for so many years, I know you. You wouldn't just do one thing! You have always been meticulous, methodical, and calculated in your endeavors!"

He didn't answer. Admitting he had orchestrated the hotel incident was already forced out of him; if he didn't say it, the evidence would make him look worse.

Other things... he had no dignity left to speak of!

But if he didn't say it, someone else would!

Thessaly spoke up. "Penelope, the intimate photos of me and Mr. Davis circulating online... that was also arranged by Brandon. He had reporters hiding, waiting for the right moment and angle to take those photos, trying to smear me and Mr. Davis as a couple."

"So, that too..." Penelope couldn't continue.

"That's all I know for now," Thessaly replied. "Brandon knows best what else he's done. Maybe he has plans but hasn't acted yet. Maybe he's already acted, and we just don't know."

The fear was that Brandon was still plotting and scheming more sinister things!

Brandon lowered his head, hiding the emotions in his eyes and face. Yes, he had a grander plan, still in the works!

Had he failed? No, impossible! If he couldn't have Penelope, then Kelvin wouldn't have her either!

"Brandon, Brandon, you're no longer the Brandon I once knew..." Penelope murmured. "Why, why did you change, too?"

Over the years, people had come and gone, and there weren't many left. Now, even Brandon was no longer trustworthy!

Her body swayed, struggling to stand. This incident had hit her hard... very hard.

"Penelope." Kelvin supported her. "Don't be angry. It's not worth it for someone like him."

She leaned into his embrace, closing her eyes.
