Chapter 37
She quickly glanced around, scared someone might overhear.
Michael laughed, "Look at you, all jumpy. Penelope, you're Mrs. Davis now, but you're carrying another man's baby. If this gets out, your life will be a mess!"
"Who was the man that night?" Penelope demanded, teeth clenched. "You know!"
"Want to find out? Take the supplements," Michael smirked.
"I'm not taking it! Who knows what's in there!" Penelope was wary and didn't fall for his trick.
"Take it," Michael stepped up and shoved it into her hand. "It's just a little something."
Penelope kept backing away. "I said I don't want it!"
Michael insisted, "You need it. Stop acting all high and mighty."
He kept pushing it on her, and she kept refusing. Finally, she lost her patience and swung her hand hard. "Didn't you hear me? Stop it!"
The gift fell, spilling a box of ready-to-eat fish gelatin.
"What a waste," Michael muttered, then suddenly clutched his heart, swaying, lips turning pale.
Penelope was shocked. "You, you..."
Before she could finish, Michael collapsed, hitting the ground hard.
"Dad!" Fiona rushed out of nowhere. "Dad, what's wrong? Wake up! Someone call an ambulance!"
Security guards ran over, and the scene turned chaotic.
Penelope stood outside, watching them perform first aid on Michael, stunned.
Soon, an ambulance arrived, sirens blaring, and took Michael to the hospital.
"Penelope, this is all your fault!" Fiona pointed at her. "If anything happens to him, I won't let you off!"
Penelope defended herself, "I didn't do anything."
Fiona snapped, "You're still denying it! There's surveillance, it captured everything. You can't escape!"
Penelope replied, "Fine, check the footage. I've got nothing to hide!"
Hearing this, Fiona gave a strange smile but quickly hid it.
Penelope saw it and felt uneasy. Her gut told her this was a setup.
But she couldn't figure out what Michael and Fiona were up to!
Kelvin walked out, his eyes scanning Penelope.
"Mr. Davis!" Fiona ran to him, crying, "You have to help me. My dad can't be in trouble. He worked so hard to raise me, and now he deserves to enjoy life. How can..."
Kelvin cut her off, "What happened?"
Fiona sobbed, "My dad said Penelope is now Mrs. Davis, her status is different. I'm here without a title, and he felt bad for me. So, he wanted to give Penelope some gifts to please her. Who knew, after just a few minutes with her, he suddenly collapsed!"
"Michael brought some supplements, saying it was for me. I don't know why," Penelope explained, "I didn't take it."
Fiona snapped, "He meant well, you should've just accepted it! You could've thrown it away later, why reject him to his face?"
Penelope started, "I..."
Fiona's sharp voice cut her off. "Now's not the time for this. I need to go to the hospital with my dad! Mr. Davis, come with me! Penelope, you too! You're the reason this happened!"
At the hospital entrance, Fiona clung to Kelvin, crying.
Penelope stood alone.
Finally, the operating room door opened, and the doctor came out.
Fiona rushed up. "How's my dad?"
The doctor replied, "He had a cerebral hemorrhage and is still being resuscitated."
Fiona asked, "How could this happen?"
"It was likely caused by excessive emotional agitation. The patient is elderly and has high blood pressure," the doctor explained. "He shouldn't have been arguing with anyone."
Fiona immediately glared at Penelope. "It's you! You made my dad so angry that he had a stroke!"
The doctor added, "The surgery went relatively well, but the hospital's blood bank is low. We need a blood transfusion. Whose blood type matches?"
Fiona kept her eyes on Penelope.
At that moment, Penelope finally understood—they wanted her blood!
They wanted to drain her blood!
She was pregnant. If they took a lot of her blood, the baby would be in danger!
Penelope started to back away, but Kelvin grabbed her hand, and she felt a chill run through her body.
"Where do you think you're going?" Kelvin asked. "Penelope, you have to take responsibility for what you caused."
Kelvin's eyes were cold and indifferent.
Penelope insisted, "It has nothing to do with me; I didn't do any of this!"
Fiona immediately shot back, "My dad's been healthy for years. Why did he suddenly have a stroke after seeing you?"
Penelope retorted, "How would I know? He got too emotional!"
"He's still in critical condition. Without blood, he will die!" Fiona pressed. "Are you going to watch my dad die from lack of blood?"
Penelope was about to respond when Fiona suddenly knelt down.
Fiona pleaded, "I'm begging you, save my dad, Penelope. He's the closest person to me. I can't lose him. Just give a little blood, okay?"
Kelvin bent down and helped Fiona up.
Once, because of Connor's mistake, he had already lost his respected father.
Now, this scene seemed to be repeating itself.
How could Kelvin let Fiona suffer the same fate as him?
After all, Michael would have been his future father-in-law.
"Penelope, you have to give your blood," Kelvin's eyes were cold. "You have no choice."
He said it again.
She was always at his mercy, living like a puppet!
"No matter if it's my fault or not, I have to give my blood to save Michael?" Penelope asked, trembling.
Kelvin nodded. "Yes."
Penelope pressed, "Even if it will cause me great harm, you still insist I do it?"
Kelvin squinted slightly. "It's just drawing blood, you'll recover in a couple of days."
"Yeah," Fiona immediately chimed in, "It won't kill you or harm your body. Penelope, please save my father!"
Penelope didn't believe a word of it.
From the moment she met Michael, she had fallen into their trap!
Kelvin didn't know she was pregnant, but they did!
How could a pregnant woman give her blood?
Moreover, Fiona would definitely bribe the nurse to take a large amount of her blood!
"Go now," Kelvin ordered in a deep voice. "Take her away."
Penelope turned and ran.
Kelvin stood still and spoke just one sentence, "You know the consequences of running away."
Her feet felt like they were nailed to the ground, unable to move.
Grace was in his hands, Connor was in prison, and his scalding burn from hot water had just healed.
That was Kelvin allowing Fiona to pour the water.
He backed Fiona.
"It's just a few tubes of blood, it won't kill you," Kelvin continued. "Be good, and you'll suffer less."
Penelope closed her eyes in despair. "You wouldn't understand."
"What do I need to understand?" he asked. "Tell me."
Fiona chimed in, "Yeah, tell us."
She knew Penelope wouldn't dare mention the pregnancy!
Sure enough, Penelope remained silent.
"The blood draw room is this way," the nurse came over. "Follow me."
