Chapter 967 I Am Fine, But I Really Dragged Her Down!
In this position, Penelope felt like a kid.
Kelvin's chest pressed against her back as his hands moved expertly.
Soon, an image popped up on the computer screen.
"Penelope, check this out. It's the surveillance from the path outside the hotel," Kelvin said. "I've been trying to get someone to fix those busted cameras, and I managed to snag a few blurry shots."
"One of them shows Paul and Thessaly, but the key thing here is the time."
Kelvin moved the mouse to the top right corner. "See, the time is 11:08 PM."
Penelope listened closely. "Even though the cameras didn't catch me, Brandon and I must've been outside the hotel around the same time, right?"
"Exactly," Kelvin replied. "Whether you and Brandon got there first or later, the time difference wouldn't be more than ten minutes."
Then Kelvin opened another photo.
"This was sent by my bodyguards. When they went into the small hotel to search for people, it was 11:20 PM. That's just twelve minutes after Paul and Thessaly were outside."
His Adam's apple bobbed. "So, the bodyguards got there fast and started checking every room right away. If Brandon had any plans to hurt you, he wouldn't have had time in those few minutes."
The surveillance from that night had been trashed by Brandon.
Kelvin had painstakingly restored it, but only a few blurry photos remained.
The only info he could get from these scant clues was the time on the surveillance.
Brandon didn't have the time to harm Penelope!
Penelope looked at the computer screen. "When did you get the surveillance?"
"This morning."
These images couldn't directly prove whether anything happened between Brandon and Penelope, which is why Kelvin said the evidence was lacking.
But, combined with Thessaly's words and his unwavering love and trust in her, he hoped she would slowly change her mind.
Kelvin didn't want her to stay stuck in her own turmoil.
"Penelope, what Thessaly said is true." Kelvin's hand moved to her waist. "She wouldn't have come to you with this if she weren't sure."
Penelope couldn't quite describe how she felt at that moment.
It was painful, yet there was a sense of relief.
She was glad she hadn't been violated, but she felt deep sympathy for Thessaly.
"So..." Penelope murmured, "I wasn't harmed, but Thessaly was truly violated. No, it wasn't just a violation; it was an attack on a woman's dignity! I was unharmed, but she suffered because of me!"
"We can help her, we can save her."
"But, but..."
Penelope closed her eyes.
The damage done was irreparable.
The scars would always be there, never fading, always painful to touch.
"Penelope." Kelvin rested his chin on her shoulder. "Can you believe it now? Can you stop resisting my touch, stop feeling unworthy?"
She sniffed. "I just feel like this has hurt you, too. I'm sorry, I don't deserve to stand by your side anymore... You're Kelvin, how could you have a wife with a tarnished reputation?"
"Penelope, you're not tarnished."
He paused for a moment, then added, "You're perfect to me, more than anyone else."
"When you kicked the door open that night and saw us..." Penelope's voice shook, "...how did you feel?"
With Thessaly's words and the restored surveillance, Penelope's beliefs were shaken.
Maybe nothing happened between her and Brandon... maybe there wasn't even time for anything to happen!
If Kelvin's bodyguards had arrived a little later, then it might have been too late to prevent anything.
Now, everything pointed to the fact that she was unharmed.
But Kelvin had seen her and Brandon in bed, seemingly asleep, unclothed.
"Angry, but more than that, I felt pain and guilt," Kelvin replied. "Guilt for not protecting you, pain for seeing you caught in a trap."
"If I hadn't woken up, I could have pretended nothing happened, listened to you. But if I hadn't woken up, Brandon's life... would have ended by your hand."
"Let's not talk about that night anymore. It's in the past," Kelvin said. "Penelope, you just need to know that you weren't violated, you're still pure."
After he said this, the office fell silent.
Only their breathing could be heard.
After a long while, Penelope softly said, "Okay."
Kelvin felt a weight lift off his shoulders.
He finally heard her answer!
"Penelope, you have to mean it." Kelvin tightened his arms around her waist. "Don't just say it, believe it in your heart. No more doubts, okay?"
"Okay," Penelope replied again. "Heart and mind in agreement."
As her words fell, Kelvin's kiss followed.
She paused, only for a second or two, then she raised her hand to wrap around Kelvin's neck, responding deeply.
Penelope knew he loved her, always had.
And she loved him too.
Her love was no less than his.
Kelvin was content, holding her slender waist, letting her lean against him.
Slowly... their breathing grew heavier.
"Alright," Penelope retained a sliver of reason. "This is the office, not home."
"Then, it's okay at home?"
She bit her lip, nodding lightly.
Kelvin chuckled. "Looks like tonight will be a pleasant evening."
"These days..." Penelope leaned closer to him, "I'm grateful for your patience and care, for not giving up on me, for not leaving me."
"How could I leave you? I'm more afraid of you... leaving me."
She smiled at him.
Bright as ever.
Such a smile was worth Kelvin's lifetime of protection!
Penelope nestled in his arms. "I trust you, and I trust Thessaly's words. I also believe... God wouldn't end our love in this way. Kelvin, I love you...very much."
Expressing trust and love at the same time.
How rare.
"Yes, Penelope, nothing can separate us, except death."
After a moment, Kelvin added, "And even death can't truly separate us. I'll love you forever, and only you."
