Chapter 1026 Facing Cancer, Facing Penelope

He was gone forever, never to return, never to sleep beside her again. How was she supposed to endure the long, lonely nights alone?

Kelvin had once known that feeling.

Long nights, sleepless and alone.

From the day Penelope "faked her death," for four whole years, every night had been like that for him.

Those times were painful and torturous.

It was a torment Kelvin didn't want to remember, let alone experience again.

But now, thinking about it, if he left, Penelope would have to face decades of lonely nights by herself... Just the thought of it made Kelvin's heart ache with a suffocating pain!

"I'll be home soon," Kelvin said, softening his voice. "Sorry, Penelope, it's been a really busy day."

"I'm not blaming you."

Penelope gripped her phone tightly. "Drive safely, I'll wait for you to come home before I sleep. Even though it's so late tonight, are you still going to the office with me tomorrow?"

"Yeah, there's still work to be done."

"Alright, once this busy period is over, you can get some proper rest."

After hanging up the video call, Penelope finally felt a sense of relief.

He wasn't ignoring her messages; he was genuinely too busy to check his phone.

She had overthought it.

Penelope shook her head and sighed. "We've been together for so long, why am I still so paranoid... scaring myself."

She lay on the bed, the discomfort in her heart instantly dissipating, looking forward to Kelvin coming home.

She wanted to throw herself into his arms, snuggle up to him, and breathe in his familiar scent.

Kelvin put down his phone, a faint smile lingering on his lips.

But the smile didn't reach his eyes.

There was no work, no meeting... just him, sitting alone in his office, quietly.

The office felt like an empty shell, a place that could contain him, envelop him, allowing him to escape temporarily.

But what good was escaping?

One could avoid it for a while, but not forever!

He still had to face reality, face cancer, face Penelope.

"Penelope, Penelope..." Kelvin murmured over and over, "What should I do? Let go, let you forget me, stop loving me... or choose to keep you, face this illness together?"

He didn't know what to do.

For Penelope, he could face cancer bravely, fight for treatment, and strive to live longer, as long as possible.

But he didn't want Penelope to face such despair with him.

So... should he push her away? Entrust her to someone else, someone who could take care of her for life?

But he was jealous.

Kelvin believed that no one could take care of his Penelope better than he could.

Only if he took care of her himself would he be at ease!

The night was deep, and Kelvin picked up his car keys and left the office.

Back at The King Manor, he immediately saw the light on in the master bedroom on the second floor.

She was still awake.

At the same time, the curtain suddenly lifted, and Penelope's figure appeared at the window.

She heard the sound of the car and quickly got up to look.

Sure enough, Kelvin was back!

Penelope waved at him.

Kelvin got out of the car, looked up at her, and smiled slightly. "Penelope."

His voice was very soft, but Penelope understood his lips.

"Don't stand outside," Penelope opened the window and said, "It's cold, come in quickly."

"Close the window, you're wearing such thin pajamas, don't catch a cold."

Kelvin reminded her as he walked into the villa, heading straight for the second floor.

When he was alone in the office, he felt like the whole world had abandoned him, leaving him in a deep sense of loneliness that words couldn't describe.

But now, seeing Penelope, he felt like he was back in the world.

Entering the master bedroom, Kelvin had just pushed open the door when Penelope threw herself at him, hugging him tightly.

"Why are you home so late?" she said playfully, "I've been waiting for you forever."

"You could've gone to sleep first."

"I told you I couldn't sleep."

Kelvin wanted to hug her, but then he thought of something and gently pushed her away. "I just came in from outside, I'm cold, I don't want you to catch a chill."

He was still considerate, still gentle.

"Then go take a shower and get some sleep," Penelope said, "I'll get your pajamas."

"My Penelope is getting more and more thoughtful."

"Of course, you're really lucky."

She nudged Kelvin and turned to walk into the closet, skillfully preparing his pajamas and slippers.

Kelvin was good to her, and she was good to Kelvin, too.

Love was mutual.

He protected her from worries, and she managed the household meticulously.

At the same time, Penelope also took care of the children's studies, worried about what he would wear tomorrow, and whether he had lunch.

These little details, Kelvin used to care about, but now he cherished them even more.

Because... he might not be able to enjoy them in the future.

Or, someone else might enjoy them!

"Why are you still standing there?" Penelope came out of the closet with his pajamas, looking at Kelvin, who hadn't moved. "Aren't you going to take a shower?"

He didn't say anything, just reached out and pulled her into his arms.

His arms tightened around her, almost squeezing the breath out of her!

"Penelope, Penelope..."

"I'm here, what's wrong?"

"Seeing you after a busy day makes me feel at peace."

She hugged him back. "I'm always at home, as long as you come back, you'll see me."

As long as he came home, he would have her.

Kelvin could no longer suppress the emotions surging in his heart. He pressed his lips heavily against hers, holding her waist, kissing her as he moved forward, pinning her firmly beneath him.

"Kelvin..."

Tonight, Kelvin was especially passionate, full of energy.

And he didn't say a word the whole time, just kept murmuring her name: "Penelope, Penelope."

So deep in love, so affectionate.

Penelope was exhausted by his intensity.

As dawn approached, with light seeping through the curtains, he still showed no signs of letting her go.

Penelope's forehead was covered in sweat, her hair sticking to her skin.

She was in a daze, half-awake, half-asleep, when she suddenly felt herself being immersed in warm water.

"Take a bath," Kelvin kissed her forehead, "Be good, sleep well."

Penelope was completely drained and quickly fell asleep.

She had wanted to ask Kelvin what was going on tonight. Although he always clung to her for a long time, he had never been this... fervent.

Relentlessly entangled.

When Penelope woke up again, it was already broad daylight.

She raised her hand to shield her eyes from the light, slowly adjusting, then turned her head to look.

Kelvin was still sleeping beside her, stubble shadowing his chin.

He was sleeping deeply.
