Chapter 889 I Like You

The more chaotic things got, the more Timothy felt the need to shake up Monica's thoughts.

Otherwise, women tended to overthink, kept it to themselves, and men couldn't figure out what's going on in their heads.

Timothy and Monica stood apart, staring at each other, neither making the first move.

Penelope watched for a while and finally couldn't hold back.

She turned to Kelvin and asked, "How long do you think they'll drag this out tonight?"

"How should I know?"

It was not like he was the one chasing a woman.

Penelope muttered, "What's Timothy doing? No action for years, and suddenly he confesses and pursues her all in one night. It's a wonder Monica isn't scared to death. This progress is either stuck or accelerates abruptly. Who can keep up with that?"

If she were Monica, she'd be panicking too.

How does a long-time friend and boss suddenly turn into someone who's been secretly in love with you for ages?

"Fast? I thought he would have won her over back in Crystal City," Kelvin said.

Penelope gave him a disdainful look. "Not every guy is like you, all about efficiency with no sense of romance."

"Efficiency first, then romance."

Penelope got even more frustrated at Kelvin's attitude. "Thinking back, you never seriously pursued me. I never got to experience a sweet romance or a normal dating process. I just ended up marrying you!"

The more she thought about it, the more unfair it seemed!

The most interesting and joyful time between a man and a woman was when they were flirting, with feelings unspoken but understood.

Once they were together, the mystery was gone, and it lost its charm.

Penelope shook her head repeatedly. "Well, it's too late for me in this life. Maybe in the next one. Or Lucy can experience it for me."

She earnestly advised, "Lucy, in the future, make sure to have a proper romance. Choose someone you truly like. Don't settle, don't rush, and don't agree too quickly."

"Let the guy chase you, let him put in the effort. If he doesn't pursue you properly before getting you, he's probably not reliable."

Sam chimed in, "Don't worry, with me around, who would dare treat Lucy badly?"

Penelope looked him up and down. "I'm worried your presence will scare off Lucy's suitors."

With such a protective, intelligent, and outstanding brother, ordinary guys wouldn't stand a chance and would pale in comparison.

Plus, Lucy had a handsome, wealthy father.

Penelope thought about it. With Kelvin and Sam like that, Lucy's standards would be high.

Who knew what kind of exceptional guy would meet Lucy's expectations!

Lucy, looking puzzled, asked, "What are you talking about, Mom?"

"Nothing," Penelope replied. "You'll understand in a few years."

She turned her attention back downstairs.

Monica had her head down, hands clenched tightly, clearly nervous and at a loss.

After a while, Monica finally spoke, "Timothy, do you want an answer from me?"

"I don't want an answer. I want your true feelings," Timothy replied. "I want you to follow your heart and tell me. Don't hide, don't hold back."

She bit her lip, leaving several marks.

She didn't want to reject him, and she felt a bit reluctant.

As Penelope said, if she outright rejected him and broke his heart, what if he gave up and stopped pursuing her?

He had stirred her heart, and if he retreated, she'd be left in turmoil.

Agreeing too quickly, though, she feared it might lead to a bad outcome.

"This is between us," Monica said. "How did it end up at The King Manor, with everyone knowing?"

"You came to The King Manor, so I had to follow."

Monica looked up at him angrily. "I can come here, but why did you follow? Now everyone knows what's going on!"

She had nowhere else to go.

She could only confide in Penelope.

Timothy sighed, "Yes, my fault. I didn't handle it well."

He used to never back down so quickly, always arguing with her.

Now, he was suddenly taking responsibility, and Monica found it unsettling!

Were they meant to be together?

"Well, it's not entirely your fault," Monica's tone softened. "Could we have kept it a secret? They probably all figured it out. I just thought I hid it well."

"Yes, Monica, many people noticed I like you. Only you didn't know."

Monica's voice was small and soft, "I knew."

The look of love in someone's eyes was hard to hide, and others could see it.

The person being loved could feel it too.

Monica always thought she was mistaken, that she was inexperienced in love, imagining things, longing for a hug and a shoulder.

For years, the man always by her side was Timothy.

"You knew?" Timothy's eyes lit up, a smile spreading across his face. "So you knew."

"I thought I was overthinking."

Timothy quickly interrupted, "No, you weren't. I do like you."

He took several steps forward, wanting to be closer to her.

Monica stood up too.

"If you need an answer today," she said, looking at him, "I can only tell you I need to think about it."

"Monica, what are you worried about? You can tell me."

At that moment, Timothy seemed so responsible and reliable.

Monica felt an impulse.

An impulse to throw herself into his arms and hold him tightly.

To love freely, fully immerse herself in the hormones of love, without worrying about the future or others' opinions.

Just to be happy.

But the impulse lasted only a few seconds.

Monica quickly regained her composure.

The fact that Timothy could make her feel this way showed he was already in her heart.

"Do you like me? What do you like about me? Do you find me interesting, or did you develop feelings over time?" Monica asked. "What qualities of mine attract you?"
