Chapter 23

Kelvin gripped the steering wheel tight, zipping past cars like he was in a race.

Penelope was tossed around by the inertia.

Finally, they screeched to a halt at King Manor.

The car didn't stop right away, and the tires squealed, heading straight for the steps.

Penelope screamed as she was thrown forward, then slammed back into her seat.

The car stopped just inches from the steps.

Penelope broke out in a cold sweat.

Her legs wobbled as she jumped out and ran to the side to dry heave.

Kelvin looked at her coldly. "So delicate."

Penelope tried to explain, "I'm carsick!"

"This isn't the first time you've thrown up," he squinted. "What's going on?"

Penelope's heart skipped a beat, worried he'd think it was morning sickness.

So she quickly said, "That soup was too greasy! I ate poorly in the mental hospital, so my stomach's not great. I can't handle rich food!"

Kelvin thought of Lily's soup and got even more annoyed. "Then don't drink it anymore!"

"You said it!" Penelope looked at him. "Don't go back on your word."

"I said it!" Kelvin admitted.

The soup was problematic, and she often threw up. Kelvin worried it might harm her health.

He quickly made an excuse for his kindness. Penelope was his to punish, not to be taken down by a bowl of soup!

"And from now on, no more picking up trash!" Kelvin warned, "If I catch you again..."

"Do you think I want to?" Penelope shot back.

"Isn't it just to earn bus fare? Starting tomorrow, commute to work with me," Kelvin said, "Is that enough?"

Penelope was stunned. She'd rather walk.

At least she'd be free and not have to look at his face.

Kelvin took her silence as agreement. "Don't overthink it. If someone recognizes you picking up trash, it'll be my reputation on the line!"

Penelope retorted, "Not many people at the company know we're married."

They had a secret marriage.

Kelvin would never make it public.

Everyone in LA speculated about what kind of beauty the unseen Mrs. Davis was.

Marrying into the Davis Family, a top-tier wealthy family, meant a life of wealth and prosperity. Ms. Davis had such a good life!

Back in the living room, Jeff offered a cup of tea. "Mr. Davis."

Kelvin took a sip, his face still sour.

Penelope ignored him, rummaging through her bag and finding an Aromatherapy Pouch.

She casually handed it to Jeff. "I made this today. It can calm the mind and help with sleep, just a small token."

Jeff took it. "Thank you, Mrs. Davis."

Kelvin's face darkened even more.

Did she casually give it away? Typical of her!

"By the way, Kelvin, didn't you throw yours away?" Penelope asked, "Why did Timothy say..."

Kelvin tugged at his tie. "How should I know? The cleaner probably thought it was thrown away by mistake and put it back on my desk!"

Penelope offered, "If you want a new one..."

"No!" Kelvin slammed the teacup down and went upstairs to his study.

Jeff cautiously asked, "Mrs. Davis, Mr. Davis seems to be in a bad mood."

Penelope snorted, "When is he ever in a good mood? He inexplicably gets angry every day. Never mind."

Jeff said, "You've upset Mr. Davis again?"

Penelope was speechless. "He started it."

But today, despite being so angry, he didn't do anything to her!

That was rare.

Her phone buzzed, and Penelope saw it was a message from Ryan: [Mrs. Davis, here's the money from selling those bottles. I'm transferring it to you.]

He transferred 17 dollars.

Penelope felt a bit embarrassed. Ryan was the CEO's assistant, with a good salary. It was inappropriate for him to do this kind of thing late at night.

She decided to buy him a coffee tomorrow to apologize.

Just as she was about to go to bed, she heard Fiona's voice outside. "I want to see Mr. Davis. Let me see him."

Fiona continued, "Mr. Davis! It's Fiona! You can't be so heartless to me! I'm here to apologize. Give me a chance."

Why was Fiona here again?

Kelvin had just sent her home to reflect today, and she couldn't have waited to come back!

Outside the gate, Fiona was shouting and banging on the door, insisting on seeing Kelvin.

If she really stayed home to reflect, wouldn't that give Penelope more time and opportunity?

She wasn't that stupid!

With a good attitude, an apology, and some sweet talk, She could have been forgiven by Kelvin!

Fiona yelled, "Mr. Davis, if I don't see you today, I'll kneel here and not leave!"

Fiona stubbornly stayed, and the security guard, who knew her, didn't dare to force her away.

The security guard persuaded her, "Miss Wright, please stop shouting. If you disturb Mr. Davis's rest, we can't bear the responsibility!"

Fiona insisted, "Go inform him."

The security guards hesitated.

Fiona really knelt down.

The security guard was startled and didn't know what to do when Kelvin's figure slowly emerged from the darkness.

He scolded, "What are you making a fuss about in the middle of the night?"

"Mr. Davis!" Fiona looked at him joyfully. "You finally agreed to see me!"

Kelvin frowned. "Get up."

"No, if you don't forgive me, I won't get up," She moved on her knees to Kelvin's side. "I've been reflecting all afternoon. I know I was wrong. I'm here to apologize to Penelope and ask for her forgiveness!"

On the villa steps, Penelope heard this and couldn't help but sneer.

Fiona would have sincerely apologized? When pigs flew!

Besides, Kelvin wouldn't have let Fiona do that.

Fiona was his beloved woman! How could she have suffered such humiliation?

Sure enough, Kelvin asked indifferently, "Do you really know your mistake?"

"Yes, I shouldn't have gone to the company to take her away. It was too impulsive," Fiona replied, "I was just blinded by jealousy for a moment. I love you too much. We are meant to be together. Fate brought us together that night, making us each other's only one. But Penelope is your rightful wife. Mr. Davis, it breaks my heart."

"Thinking about her sharing a bed with you, eating with you, makes me insanely jealous. Clearly, she took everything that belonged to me. So I wanted to vent my anger on her. Fortunately, you arrived in time!" Fiona clung to Kelvin's arm, gently shaking it. "Otherwise, I would have made a big mistake. Mr. Davis, this is my reflection today!"

These words sounded heartfelt.

She portrayed herself as a woman madly in love, who lost control and made mistakes. Every word spoke of her love for Kelvin.

"I'll apologize to Penelope and promise not to bully her again. I'll be good. Mr. Davis, please don't be mad at me anymore," Fiona pouted, acting coquettishly.

Apologizing, expressing love, and acting cute all in one go.

This was what Michael had taught her, and Fiona used it all.

Kelvin already felt guilty towards Fiona, and seeing her sincere attitude, he let it go.

"Get up," He reached out to help Fiona up.

"Thank you, Mr. Davis!" Fiona jumped up happily, holding his arm.

"I won't do anything to make things difficult for you again." Fiona spoke seriously, "I'll just wait patiently for you to marry me!"

Kelvin nodded. "Okay."

Fiona asked, "So you forgive me, right?"
