Chapter 905 My Happiness Depends on You

Timothy said, "Penelope, you should never get between a man and his wife. That's just not right. You know how I've treated you all these years, right? I've never hurt you. Even when it was about you and Kelvin, I took your side and got sent to Crystal City because of it. And this is how you repay me?"

Penelope rubbed her forehead.

Kelvin had called her a matchmaker, but now Timothy was accusing her of breaking up a marriage.

It was tough being a person sometimes.

"Alright, enough," Penelope stood up. "I'll go talk to Monica and see what she thinks. But I can't promise anything. Of course, I'll put in a good word for you."

Timothy stood up and shook her hand solemnly. "My happiness depends on you."

Penelope suddenly felt the weight of responsibility.

Timothy added, "Whether I get to marry, have kids, and enjoy my old age depends on you."

Penelope swallowed hard. "If Monica turns you down, don't do anything drastic. There are plenty of good women out there. Don't fixate on just one."

"I only want her."

Penelope got nervous. "No, no, no, let's talk this through. Think positively. Don't put all your hopes on one person, and don't get stuck in a rut."

She felt like Timothy might be heartbroken if he got rejected.

She quickly tried to calm him down.

"Go on." Timothy let go of her hand and patted her shoulder. "I'll be waiting for your triumphant return."

Penelope looked back at him several times as she walked away. Timothy's gaze never wavered.

Gathering her courage, Penelope walked into Monica's office.

"It's you." Monica glanced up at her, then back down. "The water's over there. Help yourself. I'm busy."

"You do your thing. I'm not thirsty."

Monica looked serious. "If you have something to say, say it. If not, leave. If it's about me and Timothy, don't waste your breath."

Penelope hadn't even started, and Monica already knew her intention.

"I'm just concerned about your relationship," Penelope said, bringing up the kids. "Sam and Lucy are worried too. They keep asking when you will get together and give them a baby to play with."

Monica's mouth twitched. "Have a baby?"

"Yeah. That night at The King Manor, you and Timothy made such a scene. They know all about it."

"Why are you telling the kids this stuff?"

Penelope quickly distanced herself. "I didn't say anything. They saw it themselves. Kids these days are smart. They know more than you think."

Monica tightened her grip on her pen.

"So what's the situation? Tell me." Penelope smiled as she sat across from her. "If you keep it from me, you won't have anyone to talk to."

"I have nothing to say."

"So you've made up your mind?"

Monica stayed silent.

Penelope looked at her. "Honestly, I think you shouldn't put too much pressure on yourself. Just see this relationship as a life experience. Don't worry too much about marriage, kids, and household chores. Those are far off."

"A life experience?" Monica asked. "Like a happy romance?"

"Exactly. Doesn't that make it feel less burdensome?"

Monica pursed her lips.

Penelope continued, "If you like Timothy even a little, and he doesn't have any deal-breakers for you, then say yes and enjoy a happy relationship. Monica, it's in a woman's nature to be cared for and to rely on someone."

"You have to start somewhere, right? You have to try living with someone. If you can't let Timothy into your life, it'll be even harder with someone else."

"Do you believe in love at first sight? That one day a perfect man charming will come along and be devoted to you? That's probably a scam. And Timothy is the man charming in other women's eyes."

Monica leaned back in her chair.

After a long silence, she said, "I understand what you're saying, Penelope. You want someone by my side who knows me, understands my moods, takes care of me, and becomes my support. And Timothy fits that role well. You're happy now, and you want me to settle down soon too."

"Exactly."

"But," Monica bit her lip. "I'm afraid that if I invest in a relationship, I'll give too much and won't be able to pull back. I'm even more afraid that after getting used to being with someone, I'll have to go back to being alone."

Penelope said one had to start somewhere.

Monica agreed because she couldn't stay single forever.

But with a beginning came an end.

At the start, everything was beautiful.

But at the end?

Would it end abruptly or lead to a happy ending?

Monica hoped to find someone to hold hands with and walk through life together, but that was just her hope.

Marriage involved two people.

Did the other person want the same? To love each other forever?

"Love requires courage," Penelope said, looking into her eyes. "Monica, you can't refuse to start because you're afraid of the end. Timothy is someone you can trust for life, and I think he wants to grow old with you."

"Even if you end up parting ways, so what? You've loved, laughed, and tried. No regrets."

"With your personality, I believe you can move on. And that's the worst-case scenario. We should believe in a good outcome."

Monica sighed deeply.

She had thought a lot these days.

Whenever she had free time, Timothy's image popped into her mind.

She understood the logic, but she was still hesitant.

"Penelope, I realize now that you're braver than me," Monica said. "You and Kelvin started rocky, but look at you now, so happy."

"So, the ending is unknown and in your hands. True love will find a way. But it's up to you to decide. I won't say more to avoid clouding your thoughts. Just make sure you have no regrets."

She walked around to Monica's side and gave her a big hug.
