Chapter 798 I Have Something to Ask Debra

"I treat Isabella well because she has received so little," Brent said. "Penelope, she can't get what you were born with no matter how hard she tries. So, I always think of giving her a bit more because you already have everything."

"You are Nicole's daughter, and Isabella is Debra's. Your birth determined the difference between you and Isabella. You are a true heiress, while she, although also my daughter, does not have the same status as you."

"Later, when you were lost, she had the chance to enter the Mitchell family, being raised by Nicole and enjoying the status and treatment that only you could have. Then, when you were found, you became the wife of Mr. Davis, the most powerful man in LA."

"And Isabella?" Brent sighed repeatedly. "First, she lost her status as the Mitchell family's heiress, and then she lost Brandon. She has nothing left, only me as her father."

"She suddenly lost everything she had gained, and it was expected that she couldn't handle the blow. So, I thought of giving her as much care as possible, more and more, giving her everything I could to save her."

"Penelope, do you want what I give to Isabella? Do you care? Do you lack it? To you, my fatherly love is dispensable; you don't care. But to Isabella, I am her only hope."

Brent looked at Penelope. "Do you understand?"

Penelope suddenly smiled. "So that's how it is."

"Yes, you have a lot and don't lack what I give you. But Isabella has very little, and she needs me a lot."

Penelope asked, "And what did your constant favoritism get you? Has Isabella ever been grateful to you? Did you pull her back from the brink? No, you failed, and she died."

"I tried my best. I'm useless, I'm incompetent."

Penelope said word by word, "Brent, just because I have more doesn't mean I can give some away. Just because Isabella has less doesn't mean she can rightfully accept what should be mine!"

Moreover, what Isabella had was not little; she was just not content! She was greedy!

"I know that's the logic, but," Brent said, "you already have enough. Whatever more I give you is just icing on the cake and won't affect your life at all."

"But Penelope, the care I give Isabella can change her life, change her fate!"

"In this situation, of course, I want my existence as a father to have the greatest value and impact!"

Penelope didn't need him at all. Isabella needed him a lot! That was the difference!

"In the end, you just selfishly want to satisfy and comfort yourself," Penelope directly exposed him. "You want to be a good father, but in front of me, you have no image left. But in front of Isabella, you can still establish a tall, kind father figure."

Brent's life was a failure; his career only took off because of Nicole, and he had no real ability.

He couldn't find his value and meaning in front of Nicole and Penelope, so he needed to show off his abilities and seek a sense of existence in front of Debra and Isabella!

This kind of male vanity was fully displayed in Brent!

A truly strong and excellent man didn't need to show off!

Brent explained, "Penelope, you have many people around you; you don't lack me as your biological father."

"I don't lack you, and I don't need you," Penelope replied. "The Isabella you desperately protected is dead, and you will need to commemorate her every year. Your beloved Debra is crazy and needs your care. For the rest of your life, just stay with them."

"I..."

"Enough," Penelope interrupted him. "I don't want to hear anymore!"

Brent's reasons were so absurd that they couldn't convince her at all.

Why should her father's love be given to Isabella?

Just because Isabella was born from an affair? Because her status was low?

Moreover, Isabella was not that pitiful. At least she had no worries about food and clothing, looked decent, and already had a much better life than most people!

Brent stood alone, cautiously glancing at Penelope before looking away.

He looked pitiful. After all, he was once a well-known figure in LA, a respected person, the head of the Mitchell family.

And now? He has nothing left, and even speaking required watching Penelope's expression!

"Alright," Brent sighed deeply. "I won't bother you anymore, Penelope. I have wronged you and Nicole. Now, with things as they are, I just want to..."

He paused.

Penelope asked, "What do you want? Do you think you have the right to choose?"

"I want to take Debra away from LA and never appear in front of you and Nicole again. Just consider us dead."

"She's like this now, and you haven't given up on her?"

Brent shook his head. "Debra has been with me for most of my life; how could I just leave her like this?"

Penelope laughed sarcastically. "You two really are true love!"

"Maybe there is some love," Brent replied. "Back then, I had so many women around me, but I just liked her and chose her. Now, if I don't take care of her, she will be miserable."

A single, middle-aged woman with no marriage or children, with some mental issues, acting crazy and erratic—what kind of fate would she face?

Either she would wander, fall into destitution, and rummage through trash cans on the streets for food.

Or she would be taken advantage of by some old men.

Brent couldn't bear it. He was very useless, but the only place he could still show some usefulness was in protecting Debra.

Penelope looked at him. "I can let you take Debra away."

"Really?" Brent was a bit surprised and excited. "Penelope, you're not lying to me?"

"Yes. I can even give you some money."

"Do you have any conditions?" Brent was stunned, a bit disbelieving of his ears.

Penelope hated him so much, hated his affair, hated his favoritism towards Isabella. How could she let him go and even give him money?

"Step aside," Penelope said. "I have something to ask Debra."
