Chapter 972 Truly My Good Son

"Is that a compliment or a dig?"

Penelope couldn't decide whether to laugh or frown.

"Why should I get all dolled up?" she asked. "I'm already hitched. What if some good-looking single guy starts hitting on me? How am I supposed to brush him off?"

Sam shot a look at Kelvin.

With Kelvin around, there were a lot of things he had to keep to himself!

"Hey, if a handsome guy's into you, it just means you still got it. Plus, it shows Kelvin was smart to snap you up early!" Sam said with a grin. "Right, Kelvin?"

Kelvin yanked Sam closer by the collar. "Cut the crap. What's really going on?"

Sam blinked innocently. "I'm being straight with you."

"Really?" Kelvin arched an eyebrow. "I'm giving you one more shot. You sure you don't wanna take it?"

Feeling the heat, Sam quickly reconsidered. No way he could win against Kelvin—he was still the boss here!

"Okay, okay. If a male celeb is good-looking and knows how to charm and cheer people up, then Mom's hit the jackpot," Sam admitted. "Having a handsome guy around to be all considerate would definitely boost her mood! She'd be grinning ear to ear!"

Sure, Penelope would be all smiles with those handsome celebs around.

But Kelvin? Not so much!

"Kelvin, you gotta chill," Sam said earnestly. "Mom's just having a good time; she's not running off with them. It's good for her to enjoy herself. She'll always come back to you."

Penelope laughed so hard she nearly doubled over.

Kelvin's mouth twitched. "Thanks a lot, Sam, for your genius plan!"

"No need to thank me," Sam shrugged it off, then suddenly remembered something. "Oh, by the way, Mom can hang out with male celebs, but you can't be friends with female celebs."

"Why not?"

"Because none of them hold a candle to Mom. You've already got the best, most beautiful, and sweetest woman in the world. Isn't that enough?"

Kelvin felt the urge to toss him off the balcony!

Sam was flexible. He ducked down, slipped out of his jacket, and zipped over to Penelope's side in a flash.

In the end, Kelvin was left holding just an empty jacket.

Sam had already made his getaway.

"Brian taught me that. He said if a bad guy grabs me like that, I should use my size to get away fast," Sam said proudly. "First time trying it today, and it worked like a charm!"

Kelvin tossed the jacket aside, letting out a cold huff.

Penelope was all smiles, pinching Sam's cheek. "You're such a good kid!"

"Of course," Sam said, lifting his chin. "Even though my last name is Davis now, in my heart, you're always number one!"

Penelope's smile grew even brighter, while Kelvin's expression darkened.

"What's with that look?" Penelope asked, grinning at him. "You just said you were cool with me going to the film's opening ceremony to meet my favorite male celebs. How long has it been since you said that... and now you're taking it back?"

Kelvin's lips parted slightly. "I'll go with you tomorrow."

"What?"

"Penelope, do I need to repeat it?"

Penelope raised an eyebrow. "But you've got a meeting tomorrow."

"I'll reschedule it."

Kelvin had made up his mind. Sure, bodyguards could keep Penelope safe, but they couldn't do much else!

Sam had a point. With all those male celebrities around—tall, lean, buff, older, mature, younger, charming—Penelope would be surrounded by handsome guys... Just thinking about it made Kelvin uneasy!

Plus, she was attending as the wife of the Davis Group's CEO. What if some actor tried to make a move?

"That's settled," Kelvin said. "Think of it as supporting Thessaly."

Thessaly was the only actress signed with Davis Group and the face of Adoring Cupid. Both Kelvin and Penelope were attending the opening ceremony of her first film since switching agencies, showing her great respect.

In the entertainment world, no one dared to underestimate her anymore.

Even Paul had to tread carefully!

"Alright, if you're coming, let's go together," Penelope agreed. "There are plenty of actresses in the crew, too. Maybe... you'll find someone you like."

Kelvin's voice shot up. "Excuse me?"

"Hahaha, come on, let's play some badminton, get moving," Penelope said, standing up. "Don't just sit around all day!"

Kelvin got up, grabbing a racket nearby.

He knew... Brandon's invitation to Penelope to the opening ceremony had to have some ulterior motive.

Recently, Thessaly had mentioned that Brandon was getting more attentive and considerate, almost like he was about to confess his feelings.

Plus, Thessaly noted that Brandon didn't hold back from showing his interest, regardless of the setting or time, and everyone around them had accepted that Brandon was pursuing her.

From what Kelvin knew about Brandon, he probably planned to use the opening ceremony to officially make Thessaly his girlfriend, making their relationship public!

Of course, Brandon wouldn't just make it official behind the scenes; he had to show it to others.

And the first person he needed to show it to... was Penelope.

They said your rival knew you best.

Brandon's little scheme was crystal clear to Kelvin!

That night.

After her shower, Penelope, with her hair still damp, was in the closet picking out clothes.

"What should I wear tomorrow..." she muttered. "Kelvin, what color suit are you wearing?"

"Whatever you pick."

"You're leaving it up to me? I can't even decide what to wear myself, and now I have to worry about you."

Kelvin leaned against the headboard, casually flipping through a book. "Didn't you ask what color suit I'm wearing? Just pick a dress color you like, and I'll match it with a suit in the same color scheme."

Penelope was even more conflicted.

Too formal wouldn't be right; it was just an opening ceremony.

Too casual wouldn't do either; it would seem like she didn't care.

After much deliberation, Penelope finally chose a white long-sleeve lace dress for herself and a white shirt with a black suit for Kelvin.

Simple yet formal.

"That'll do! Done!"

"Not ready yet?" Kelvin's voice came. "Need my opinion?"

"All set, all set."
