Chapter 1080 Is Dad Acting Strange Recently?
Sam realized his plan to "sleep with Mom" had failed, so he nudged Lucy's shoulder and exchanged a knowing glance with her.
The siblings immediately understood each other.
"Hey, Mom," Sam said with a mischievous grin, "Since you have both me and Lucy, to be fair, we'll take turns sleeping with you this week. How does that sound?"
Penelope remained silent.
"Tonight, Lucy will sleep with you. Tomorrow night, I'll sleep with you. The night after that, it'll be Lucy again, and then..."
"Stop, enough," Penelope interrupted. "Right now, you two need to clean up the toys you've scattered everywhere, put them back in the box, and then go upstairs to wash up. Got it?"
Lucy pouted, thinking, 'Sam always wants to compete with her, and now neither of them gets to win! Otherwise, she could have just acted cute and cuddly, and Mom would have softened up, letting her snuggle up with her sweet, soft, and fragrant mom! How happy that would be! Sam always ruins her plans!'
"Got it, Mom," Lucy replied obediently and started tidying up the toys.
Sam, however, sidled up to Penelope, clinging to her. "Mom..."
"What? Don't use that trick on me; it doesn't work. That is in vain!"
"I have something to tell you," Sam said seriously, his voice low. "Don't you think... Dad's been acting a bit strange lately?"
"Strange?"
"Yeah, remember last time he came home really late? What did I tell you then? Do you remember?"
Of course, Penelope remembered.
Sam had told her to keep an eye out, to be cautious, in case some woman tried to make a move on Kelvin.
But that issue had already been resolved. She had asked Kelvin, and he had indeed been at the office that night, with surveillance footage to prove it!
Why brought it up again?
Sam leaned in closer. "First, it's overtime, then it's business trips. All very suspicious. Mom, you need to stay alert. When the first signs appear, you should catch them early and extinguish those sparks!"
"At first, Dad couldn't get enough of you, wanted you by his side all the time. Now, after all this time, the feelings have faded, and he's busy with work, going on business trips... Why didn't he go on business trips before?"
"Men like novelty, and there are women out there eyeing him. After all, he's rich and handsome... Ouch, my ear!"
Penelope grabbed his ear. "Sam! I told you to stop watching those trashy romance dramas! Did you hear me?"
What nonsense was he spouting?
He had made her anxious before, causing her to doubt Kelvin.
It turned out she had overreacted, making a fuss over nothing.
And now... Sam was stirring things up again!
Besides, Kelvin wasn't on a business trip; he was in the hospital.
The business trip was her cover story!
"I'm seriously reminding you..." Sam said weakly, "Just in case. Marriage needs nurturing. I want you and Dad to have a long-lasting, harmonious relationship."
"Extremely harmonious, so stop worrying, OK?"
"OK, OK," Sam nodded. "I'll pretend I didn't say anything! Just a reminder... You're so fierce."
He muttered, still a bit dissatisfied.
He had no ill intentions, just wanted Kelvin and Penelope to have a long-lasting relationship.
Happy parents made a happy family!
"You're overthinking it," Penelope said. "I know your dad is great, handsome, and wealthy, and sure, lots of women are interested in him. But he won't let them succeed."
No matter how skilled or clever those women are, if Kelvin doesn't take the bait, it's all useless.
Besides... Kelvin had seen plenty of women.
Probably since high school, female classmates had been eyeing him.
After all... who wouldn't want to marry into a wealthy family?
But Kelvin remained single until he met her!
And if Kelvin were the type to be easily swayed by women, unable to resist temptation, then during the four years she was gone, why didn't he find another woman? Why didn't he become a playboy?
Sam nodded. "Yeah, you're right, Mom. But think about it, if Dad ever lets those women succeed, your position would be in danger."
"Sam."
"What?"
"Why... are you always worried that Kelvin will be seduced by other women?"
This was something Penelope found puzzling.
Lucy never asked such questions.
"I'm a male," Sam said. "Males understand males. I'm just reminding you. You're so naive; how could you compete with those women? Otherwise, you'd only realize it when a woman comes gloating to you."
"That won't happen," Penelope said firmly. "It won't! Do you understand?"
"Understood!" Sam saluted. "Got it!"
"Go wash up!"
Sam dashed upstairs.
Penelope wanted to call him back; the Lego pieces were still scattered on the floor.
Forget it... Let him go.
Penelope crouched down and started tidying up the toys.
"Mrs. Davis," the maid nearby said, "Let me do it."
"No need, I need something to do to pass the time."
Otherwise, she'd be restless, constantly checking the time, eager to return to the hospital.
Having something to do could distract her, making time pass faster.
As Penelope cleaned up, she shook her head. The difference between her son and daughter was clear. Look at the mess Sam made, while Lucy knew how to organize and tidy up.
Men really were... troublesome from a young age!
As for Sam's constant reminders to watch out for women trying to seduce Kelvin... Penelope thought, 'It won't happen.'
Kelvin loved her, and he only loved her.
He wouldn't betray their marriage, wouldn't wrong her.
And if, worst-case scenario, Kelvin ever had another woman, cheated on her, then their marriage would be over.
Penelope would never forgive him! That was her bottom line, a matter of principle!
Moreover... Penelope was not a control freak.
A good partner gave freedom and space. If he messed up, it meant he was not worth spending a lifetime with.
Love was about mutual trust and principles.
Kelvin had given Penelope enough security, so she didn't worry about women stealing him.
What she worried about... was Kelvin's health!
At nine o'clock in the evening.
Penelope went upstairs and peeked into Sam and Lucy's room.
They were both asleep, sleeping soundly.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
Penelope instructed the housekeeper, "Tomorrow, just like usual, take Lucy and Sam to school."
