Chapter 814 Both of Them Are Very Scheming People

In that situation, there was no choice but to fight to the death.

Fortunately, Brian succeeded!

"Yeah, yeah," Sam nodded repeatedly, "Whether he saved me or not, Brian is undoubtedly a hero!"

Brian gave a slight nod.

Penelope leaned in close to Brian and said, "Take good care of yourself. We won't disturb you. If you need anything, just let us know, and I'll do my best to help."

"Th-thank you."

Brian was too weak. Just being awake for this short time had drained most of his energy.

Penelope, worried about disturbing his rest, gently squeezed his hand and then left with Sam.

Brian slowly closed his eyes.

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

He had done something he would never regret, something truly meaningful in his life!

Back in his own hospital room, Sam immediately started to complain.

Penelope tried to put him back in bed, but he clung to her arm, refusing to let go. "Mom, if Kelvin bullies me, who will you side with?"

"When did he bully you?"

"Just now! Right after you ran out to see Brian!"

Sam exaggerated the story about Kelvin forcing him to call him dad.

Penelope couldn't help but laugh. "It's just a word. He is your dad, after all."

"I don't want to call him that!"

"Fine, then you don't have to."

Sam was dissatisfied. "You won't help me. I guess once a mom gets married, she doesn't side with her son anymore..."

As soon as he finished speaking, he got a light tap on the forehead.

"Ow, ow," Sam whined, "No one loves me. I want Grandpa, I want Grandma, I want to see Grandpa. You two are ganging up on me!"

"Stop acting. No one's buying it," Penelope said, then turned to Kelvin. "You, come here and apologize."

Kelvin was a bit surprised. "Penelope?"

"If you want Sam to call you dad, you need to earn it by showing him you're worthy, not by forcing him. He might call you once, but that's all you'll get. What's the point?"

Then she turned to Sam. "And you, if you want to acknowledge him as your dad, do it openly. If not, tell him what he needs to improve on so he can work towards being the dad you want."

"You two are both so calculating, always scheming against each other."

Penelope scolded both of them and then said sternly, "I'm going to call Mom to check on things. You two sort it out yourselves."

She walked out, leaving the space for the father and son.

Once outside, Penelope couldn't help but smile, and she glanced back.

They could figure it out themselves.

She couldn't be bothered anymore.

After all, both Kelvin and Sam were the type who wouldn't let themselves be taken advantage of.

Let's see who comes out on top, the father or the son.

Penelope took out her phone, just about to make a call, when Nicole called her first.

Perfect timing.

"Hey, Mom," Penelope asked, "Did you get everything sorted?"

"Yes, it's all done. I'm on my way back to the hospital now."

"Are you okay?"

Nicole replied, "Why would I be upset? I actually feel relieved. Plus, Debra was there too."

"She was?" Penelope was surprised. "Why did she go?"

"Brent needed her help to walk," Nicole said. "I threw the divorce papers in her face and told her that from now on, she and Brent are out of my life forever!"

"I also told Debra that despite all her scheming, seducing Brent, and taking my daughter, she ended up with nothing. I don't hold it against her because she wasted half her life. If she wants Brent, she can have him."

"Why should I care? She took you away, which is unforgivable, but no matter how much I hate her, it won't change the past. So, let it go."

"Now that you and Mr. Davis are happy, and Sam and Lucy are growing up healthy, I don't want to be the villain. Let's just let it be for the kids' sake."

Penelope nodded. "Mom, I'm glad you can see it that way. It puts my mind at ease."

She had worried that her decision to let Brent and Debra be together might upset her mom.

It wasn't about forgiving Debra; it was about moving on.

Debra had lost everything, including her own daughter, and gained nothing.

What good would it do to hold a grudge?

Better to let Brent live with the guilt of what he did to Nicole and Penelope.

"Don't worry, Penelope. I'm not stubborn," Nicole said. "By the way, when we signed the papers, Brent's hands were shaking. He took a lot of medication afterward. He didn't look well."

"He's getting a heart stent tomorrow. After the surgery, I'll transfer him to a hospital outside of LA. You'll never have to see them again."

Nicole agreed. "Good, let's do that."

She didn't ask about the surgery details, showing she had truly moved on.

Penelope hung up and looked at the scenery outside.

She felt a sense of peace.

Everything was over.

But everything was also beginning.

The past was behind them, and a new chapter was starting.

She believed the future would only get better!

Penelope returned to the hospital room. Kelvin was sitting on the couch, and Sam was lying on the bed.

"How did it go?" Penelope asked. "Did you two make up?"

Kelvin: "Yeah."

Sam: "Yeah."

"Why do you both look so reluctant?" Penelope said. "Should I give you more time to talk?"

She pretended to leave again.

"No, no, no," Sam quickly stopped her. "Kelvin and I are getting along great now. No more scheming or jealousy! If you don't believe me, ask him!"

Kelvin nodded.

Penelope's eyes darted between the two.

Something felt off, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

What did they talk about?

"Sam," Penelope asked, "Are you willing to call Kelvin dad now?"

"It's not the right time yet. He promised to prove himself and earn my approval."

Kelvin nodded again.

"Alright then," Penelope said, satisfied. "From now on, try to get along and don't put me in the middle. Can you do that?"
