Chapter 952 He Is the Best, Most Gentle, and Most Qualified Husband

Penelope opened her mouth, but no words came out, and tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Don't cry, Mom," Lucy said softly, wiping away her tears. "You always told me a girl's tears are like pearls, and we shouldn't let them fall for nothing. Every tear is a pearl, remember?"

"Right now, Dad, Sam, and I are all here with you, trying to make you smile. Please don't be upset or sad, okay? I want to see you and Dad happy and in love, and maybe even have another little brother or sister!"

"Sam and I both want a sibling, so I can be a big sister!"

Penelope pulled Lucy into a tight hug, burying her face in her daughter's small shoulder, crying quietly.

Her sadness and vulnerability were all out in the open at that moment.

These were the people she loved most, and who loved her the most.

She needed to pull herself together, to be happy again, so Sam and Lucy wouldn't worry about her.

Penelope couldn't help but picture Lucy in her kindergarten class, learning to make a veil, and Sam learning to weave a ring... They must have been thinking about doing their best to make Mom and Dad happy.

They were so thoughtful!

"I'm not mad," Penelope said, forcing a smile. "Your dad's really good to me. He didn't do anything wrong. It's just me being a little moody, nothing to do with him. Don't get the wrong idea."

"He's the best, kindest, most perfect husband. And you two are the sweetest, smartest kids."

The harmony of a family has such a significant impact on children.

Even though today's "proposal" was touching and surprising, Penelope didn't want the kids to go through so much trouble to do these things.

They must have sensed the tension between her and Kelvin, which made them uneasy, wanting to bring their parents closer together, hoping they'd reconcile soon.

Penelope silently promised herself that she would give the kids enough security, so they'd always believe that Mom and Dad would always be together.

Kelvin hadn't abandoned her; he believed in her, was searching for the truth, and working to clear her name. She couldn't just wallow in fear, shutting herself off, thinking divorce was the solution!

"You're the sweetest, most beautiful mommy, too!" Lucy said. "Mommy, I love you."

Penelope smiled, her tear-streaked face looking so beautiful and moving: "I love you too, Lucy. I love Sam, and I love your dad."

Sam let out a long sigh of relief.

Tonight's mission was finally a success!

He crossed his arms, striking a cool, victorious pose: "From now on, no more fighting, don't make Kelvin sleep on the floor. If something's bothering you, just say it, don't keep it inside. Got it, Mom?"

Penelope pinched his nose: "Okay, Mr. Davis, Jr."

"I'm not Mr. Davis, Jr, I'm just Mr. Davis." He looked at Kelvin, raising his chin, "Right, Kelvin?"

Kelvin looked at him, too.

This Sam, the more he looked, the more he liked him!

He knew he had enough, was already very happy and lucky, so he used his wish right away, not saving it at all.

If he had to make a wish, it would be for Penelope to be happy and joyful for the rest of her life.

Sam might seem like a wild child, but deep down, he was super perceptive and thoughtful!

"Right," Kelvin nodded, "Today, whatever you say goes."

Sam grinned even wider: "See? I knew it! Everything I do is spot on..."

Before he could finish, Kelvin hoisted him up onto his shoulders.

Suddenly, Sam was sitting high above everyone else.

So high!

So steady!

So safe!

Kelvin held onto his ankles: "Sam, hold on tight."

Sam instantly became the tallest person around.

He had to look down to see Penelope and Lucy, even Kelvin was beneath him.

Sam absolutely loved this viewpoint!

Sam cheered loudly: "Being up here really does give you a better view, hahaha! So high! The air up here is so fresh!"

"I've been up there before," Lucy said. "Sam, isn't it a different feeling? Dad is so tall and strong, he can protect us without any worry of falling!"

"Not bad, just okay."

No matter how thrilled he was inside, Sam still spoke with a tone of "it's nothing special."

Penelope shook her head with a smile: "You... you're just like your dad."

"Of course, otherwise how could I be his son? I'm his real, genuine son!" Sam raised his hands high, "Kelvin, take me for a walk around the lawn!"

"Hold on tight."

"Okay!"

Sam's eyes were nearly closed from smiling.

Penelope held Lucy's hand, watching the father and son together.

"Mommy, Sam spent a long time in the schoolyard looking for the perfect grass to make your ring," Lucy said. "He wanted to find ones that were whole, without scratches or dried out, so the grass ring would look the best."

Penelope looked down at the ring on her finger.

She had owned many pieces of jewelry in her life, some bought by Kelvin, some given by her mom, and she was a jewelry designer herself.

But this grass ring was her most cherished "treasure"!

Worth keeping forever.

"And the proposal was Sam's idea, too. Mommy, Sam was the first to notice you and Dad were having a hard time, so he wanted you to make up."

Penelope knelt down to look Lucy in the eye: "Your dad and I aren't fighting."

"Mommy, don't lie. I've seen you and Dad happy together. But these past few days, you haven't looked happy at all, even when Dad's being nice to you, you don't smile like you used to."

"It's my problem, but there's no conflict between your dad and me." Penelope gently stroked Lucy's cheek. "Lucy, Dad and I will always be together, don't worry."

Lucy nodded: "I want our family to always be together, never apart. I don't want to have to choose between living with Dad or with you again."

"It won't happen again, Lucy, never again."

"So, Mommy, you're not going back to the small town, right?"

"Right," Penelope replied. "This is my home, our home for the four of us."

In the distance, Sam's clear laughter rang out: "Take off! Kelvin, go faster!"

The father and son played on the lawn, perfectly in sync.

Penelope watched quietly.

She shouldn't let herself be trapped in guilt and regret, shouldn't keep herself locked away.
