Chapter 804 Stay with Us in LA!

"No," Kelvin said, shaking his head. "Penelope, if you were really a socialite in the Mitchell family, I would've known you. The high society circle in LA isn't that big; there's no way I wouldn't have seen you around."

"But if that were true, we would've just known each other casually, without any deeper connection. Our first meeting wouldn't have involved the Cooper family, and we wouldn't have had all those twists and turns later on."

Kelvin was quiet for a long time.

Finally, he sighed deeply, "I wish I had never met you, never had you in my life. I don't want to be tangled up with you in such a painful way."

This was Kelvin's eternal regret.

The first time he met Penelope, he had her committed to a psychiatric hospital.

She endured two years of dark, torturous mental and physical suffering!

If Penelope hadn't crossed paths with him, none of this would have happened.

Kelvin wished she had a good life, always good, even if the people protecting her weren't him.

Penelope knew what he was thinking.

"Back then, you thought my dad killed your father, and I was the daughter of your father's murderer," she said. "We both believed there was a deep-seated hatred between us."

"Honestly, I shouldn't have dragged you into it, shouldn't have taken out my anger on you..."

Kelvin's lips were suddenly touched, and his voice stopped abruptly.

Penelope looked up at him, "Shh."

He smiled slightly, curling his lips.

"Okay, I won't say it."

Penelope leaned back into his arms, "All the way here, I've been thinking about one thing. Can you guess what it is? Can you?"

"You're thinking about how to talk to your mom about the divorce this afternoon."

"Kelvin, oh Kelvin."

How could he always see through her heart?

How could he understand her so well?

"Did I guess right?" Kelvin asked, "Hmm?"

"Yes. I made the decision for her. They are going straight to finalize the divorce this afternoon. I don't know what she thinks about it," Penelope muttered softly, "They'll be at peace sooner if they divorce sooner."

"Just tell her directly; she'll understand you."

Those who love you will understand you.

Penelope nodded.

Back at the hospital, Penelope headed straight to Nicole's room.

But when she pushed open the door, she found it empty.

Where was her mom? Where did she go?

"Nurse," Penelope asked, "Why isn't my mom in her room?"

"She said she felt a bit stuffy and wanted to go downstairs for some fresh air."

"How long has she been gone?"

"For a while now," the nurse replied, "Don't worry, Nicole's health is good; nothing will happen."

Penelope nodded, "Thank you."

She thought about calling, but didn't want to disturb her mom. After thinking for a moment, she decided to go to Sam's room first.

Before she even reached the door, Penelope heard laughter coming from inside.

"Grandma, I want to eat this!"

"Grandma, can you turn on the TV for me?"

"This cantaloupe is so sweet, Grandma! You should try it!"

"Sure, all of it," Nicole said, "Just lie down and don't move around; your arm is still in a cast. Grandma will feed you."

"Grandma is the best!"

Penelope walked into the room, "Mom, so you're here... I went to your room looking for you."

Nicole saw her and smiled, "I was bored alone, so I came to keep Sam company. You and Mr. Davis weren't here, and I didn't feel comfortable leaving the child with someone else."

"I specifically asked Ruby to come and take care of Sam," Penelope said, "She's watched Sam grow up; she's very experienced and close to Sam."

Penelope didn't feel comfortable letting anyone else stay in the room to take care of him.

But with Ruby there, she was completely at ease.

Nicole nodded, "I know. She's really good, efficient, and kind-hearted. It's perfect; I can chat with her and pass the time."

Ruby smiled shyly from the side, "You're too kind. Seeing your family together, happy and harmonious, truly makes me happy."

She had witnessed Penelope from pregnancy to childbirth to raising the child.

She had seen Penelope go from being alone, suffering from morning sickness, swelling, unable to sleep at night because of her big belly, only able to half-lie until dawn, to now, having both children, a partner, and family.

Back then, Penelope only had Brandon, who cared for her from afar in LA and provided some help.

But Penelope, with her strong self-esteem and dignity, often refused Brandon's kindness.

Ruby saw it all, felt the pain in her heart, but couldn't say much.

Now, everything was good, and that was enough.

"From now on, you should stay with us," Nicole said, holding Ruby's hand. "The kids are familiar with you and close to you; they won't get used to anyone else."

Sam also said, "Yes, yes, Ruby, you should stay with us in LA! Our house is big and has many rooms; you must stay in a super spacious suite!"

Ruby quickly waved her hand, "No, I... I can't accept that."

"Why not? I think it's fine."

"Yes, it's fine," Penelope agreed, "Ruby, don't be shy, don't be reserved. In my heart, you're like half a family member."

Ruby was touched, her eyes slowly moistening, "I was just doing my job."

"No, you helped me a lot. During those four hardest years, you were always by my side. When I took Lucy back to LA for treatment, I left Sam with you, causing you a lot of trouble."

Without Ruby, Penelope wouldn't have dared to leave her son in the small town so casually.

How could she bear it, how could she be at ease?

But with Ruby there, she had no worries and could focus on Lucy's treatment.

Ruby said, "It wasn't trouble at all; he's so well-behaved and smart. I treated him like my own grandson. During the time in LA, with Mr. Walker's support, I didn't have to worry much."

"Don't be modest," Nicole smiled, "We both remember your kindness."

To Penelope, Ruby's importance and significance were greater than Brent, her biological father!
