Chapter 1047 I Am Acting, He Is Also Acting

Thessaly asked, "Penelope, did you listen to the bug?"

"No, I didn't."

Thessaly looked surprised and turned to Kelvin. "Mr. Davis, you haven't given it to her yet?"

"It's not that he didn't give it to me," Penelope explained. "I just didn't want to listen."

Brandon had already confessed; the truth was out in the open, crystal clear. That evidence... it no longer mattered to Penelope.

Listening to it again would only make her feel worse!

"Alright, if you don't want to listen, then don't," Thessaly replied. "As long as you know Brandon was behind everything, that's enough."

Penelope's eyes were full of sorrow. "Thessaly, you've been through so much. I thought Brandon was the right one for you, that you two would go far together, but I was wrong. I wasn't a good matchmaker."

Every time she praised Brandon in front of Thessaly, wishing them a long-lasting relationship, Thessaly must have felt so much pain inside.

The more she thought about it, the more guilty she felt, lowering her head.

"It's okay, it's all in the past. You didn't know; I don't blame you. You were just trying to help me," Thessaly said. "Actually, the time I spent dating Brandon... it was still very exquisite, not as stormy as you might think."

Brandon treated her well, caring for her in every possible way.

When it got cold, he would remind her to wear more clothes and even have his assistant buy new ones and deliver them to her.

He remembered what she liked to eat and what she didn't, always instructing the waiter before ordering.

Whenever she had issues on set, he would resolve them immediately.

Everything had a response, and everything was taken care of.

But unfortunately... Brandon was perfect in every way except that he didn't love her.

Not only did he not love her, but he was exploiting her.

During the days she was with Brandon, as long as she didn't overthink, she was still happy.

At least in the eyes of others, she was a winner in life.

Her career was rising; her love life seemed perfect.

Though it was all superficial, all an illusion that would eventually disappear, at least... those moments truly existed.

Penelope asked, "Did you know from the beginning that Brandon was the one who sent you to Paul's bed, and that he pursued you with ulterior motives? Were you always playing along with him?"

"Yeah, I was acting, and so was he. It was a game to see who could out-act the other. People always say actors are crazy, and the audience are fools. I was both acting and watching myself act, both crazy and foolish, beyond help."

Looking back now, Thessaly felt a bit nostalgic.

Pretending to be ignorant while knowing the truth had its own charm.

Those times, though false and thrilling, were gone forever.

She and Brandon would never cross paths again in this life!

Penelope bit her lip. "Thessaly, you've endured so much... I'm sorry, truly sorry. I know this apology is useless and weak, but I don't know what else to say to express my regret."

Thessaly could have stayed out of it, not been dragged into this mess.

It was Penelope who brought her into this situation.

If Penelope hadn't chosen Thessaly as the spokesperson for "Adoring Cupid," hadn't helped her terminate her contract and regain her freedom... Thessaly wouldn't have met Brandon, and Brandon wouldn't have targeted her.

She would have been that dazzling actress—beautiful, elegant, and intelligent, with a unique charm, acting skills, and award-winning performances.

Given more time, with more effort and more roles, she would have undoubtedly become a shining star!

A bright future, full of promise!

But what happened?

What now?

Penelope wondered if her good intentions had led to bad outcomes.

"Penelope, you didn't do anything wrong; you don't need to apologize to me," Thessaly said. "The one who truly needs to apologize is Brandon. But I won't accept his apology."

"Thessaly..."

"Alright, I know what I'm doing. I understood the consequences before I acted. Don't treat me like Mr. Davis does, always thinking I'm fragile and can't handle anything, always wanting to protect me. I'm actually very tough."

Penelope looked into her eyes. "I used to be very strong too, even stronger than you. But Thessaly, I hope you can be lucky enough to meet someone who accepts all of you, lets you put down your strength, and allows you to rely on them completely."

"It would be great to meet someone like that, but if I don't..."

"You will," Penelope said confidently. "You definitely will."

Thessaly's eyes curved into a smile. "I'll take your word for it."

Penelope felt like crying.

She didn't know exactly what Thessaly had gone through during her time with Brandon, but just thinking about it made her sad.

It wasn't something a woman should have to endure.

During the days when Thessaly lost her innocence and wandered aimlessly, she could only lick her wounds alone, then gather herself and search for the truth at any cost.

She still had to stay on set, still had to deal with Brandon... no wonder she looked so bad when Penelope saw her at the Walker Mansion.

Penelope didn't dare to ask.

"Thessaly," she hugged her tightly, "you don't have to worry about anything from now on. Leave it all to me. I'll protect you, I won't let you get hurt again."

"Penelope, I worked so hard to find the truth, not just for myself, but also to enable you to perceive Brandon's true colors and to prevent you from getting hurt."

They protected each other.

Penelope couldn't hold back her tears; her eyes reddened. "I know, I know..."

She still remembered Thessaly holding her hand, firmly saying, "Penelope, nothing happened between you and Brandon; you are innocent."

That sentence gave her great strength!

At that moment, she let go of her inner demons, chose to move forward, and stopped trapping herself.

"Thessaly," Penelope took a deep breath, "I won't let Brandon post those photos of you and Paul online, I promise!"

"It doesn't matter anymore, I..."

"It does matter. You've sacrificed so much, you shouldn't have to bear all the consequences!"

Thessaly replied, "The photos are in Brandon's hands. If he insists on posting them, how can we stop him?"

Penelope gritted her teeth. "I'll negotiate with him!"

"No!"

"No!"

Kelvin and Thessaly stopped her in unison.

Kelvin was very serious. "We don't know Brandon's current state or his intentions. Penelope, there's absolutely no way I'm letting you meet him."

"Exactly," Thessaly nodded. "Since I chose to reveal everything, I'm not afraid of him or concerned about him."

"Thessaly, I care. I can't let him ruin you again."
