Chapter 924 Mommy, You Seem a Bit Off

Thessaly could handle all the pain on her own, but Brandon's kindness was too much for her to bear.

There was a time when something could have happened between them... but now, that chance was gone.

Brandon probably regretted it because, deep down, he thought she was damaged goods.

Thessaly took a deep breath. "It's not your fault, it's not Penelope's fault. I only hate the person behind all this. And most of all... I hate Paul!"

Paul was fully conscious, yet he claimed she was the one who seduced him, that he couldn't resist.

That was just an excuse!

He could have called the police, left, or taken her to the hospital... There were so many options, but he chose to sleep with her!

"What's done is done. We can't change it. Accept reality." Brandon looked at her. "Thessaly, I hope we can still be friends. I don't look down on you. You're the victim here, and I'll find out the truth and get justice for you."

"I'll handle Paul. You can ignore him, just focus on your role."

He raised his hand and gently placed it on her shoulder. "Come on, I'll take you home."

Thessaly didn't refuse.

She was incredibly fragile right now, and Brandon's words brought a small warmth to her cold heart.

Brandon was truly a good person.

"You still took the time to check on me," Thessaly followed him to the car. "Brandon, you must be a mess too... how are you feeling now?"

Thessaly thought he must feel guilty and regretful.

He and Penelope were friends, yet he did this. How could they continue being friends?

Brandon didn't answer.

Thessaly assumed he was heavy-hearted, not noticing the slight smile on Brandon's lips.

The King Manor.

Kelvin was holding Penelope, about to enter the villa, when Sam and Lucy, with their backpacks on, were heading to kindergarten.

"Mommy!" Lucy ran over quickly. "Why are your eyes red?"

Sam noticed, too.

"Kelvin!" he immediately questioned. "Did you bully her?"

Penelope forced a smile and stood up straight from Kelvin's embrace.

"No," she tried to sound cheerful. "I didn't sleep all night and caught some wind, so my eyes are like this. I'll be fine after some rest."

Lucy tilted her head. "All night? Wind? Daddy, Mommy, what were you doing?"

"Yeah..." Sam looked puzzled. "I remember last night..."

Before he could finish, Penelope interrupted.

"Your dad and I went to the hilltop to watch the stars," she said. "We enjoyed the night breeze and nature. It was a romantic time for us. Do you really need to know everything?"

Lucy looked surprised and envious. "Watching stars, that's so romantic!"

Sam muttered, "So Kelvin went out last night to take you star-gazing... wait!"

His eyes widened. "Did you use a telescope? If you went to the observatory, you can't leave me out!"

"Kelvin, are you going to name a star after her, too?"

The more Sam thought about it, the more anxious he became.

"You promised me first, Kelvin! I have your last name! I'm your son!"

"Mom might be your wife, but she doesn't have your last name!"

"Give me the naming rights to a star first, then give one to Mom. First come, first served! I should be first!"

Seeing Sam's serious and anxious expression, Penelope wanted to laugh.

But deep down, she felt bitter.

Such wonderful kids, such a happy family, such a harmonious parent-child relationship... it felt like she was about to lose it all.

Penelope felt she had no dignity left in front of Sam and Lucy.

"Okay, you're first," Penelope nodded. "You can choose any star you want, alright?"

Sam finally relaxed.

His love for astronomy, space, and the universe was in his bones.

Last weekend, Liam took him to a satellite launch base, where he met an astronaut and took a photo with him. He framed the photo and placed it by his bed, looking at it every morning and night, cherishing it!

He wouldn't let the maids touch it, cleaning it himself with a wet wipe!

"Let me go first, I'm younger." Sam coughed. "You have everything, you don't need the naming rights to a small planet. Besides, what's mine is yours, right?"

She had everything?

Yes, she used to think so, too.

But now... Penelope suppressed her thoughts, not wanting to show any sadness in front of the kids.

"Right, right." Penelope crouched down, patting Sam's head. "Go to kindergarten now."

Then, she adjusted Lucy's uniform collar. "Listen to your teacher, okay? Be good."

"Mommy, when am I not good?"

"Our Lucy is the best and most obedient."

Penelope kissed Lucy's cheek, holding her hand with one hand and Sam's with the other, personally putting them in the car.

"Bye-bye," she waved. "Have a good day at school."

Sam blinked. "Mom, you seem... a bit off."

"No," Penelope said. "I just pulled an all-nighter, so I'm not in the best shape."

Sam looked at her carefully again.

Was she really okay? Was he overthinking?

Something felt off!

Penelope kept a faint smile, determined not to let Sam see anything.

The car drove out of the King Manor, and Penelope stood there, staring blankly.

The wind blew, making her eyes dry and sore.

She blinked quickly, but tears streamed down her face.

"Penelope..." Kelvin stood behind her.

"I'm a bit tired," she wiped her eyes. "I want to take a nap."

"Okay."

Penelope quickly turned, keeping her head down, and went upstairs to the master bedroom.

She went straight to the bathroom, locked the door, and shut herself inside.

The sound of the shower running never stopped.

Kelvin stood outside the bathroom door, quietly waiting.

He was there, always there.

He wanted to be the first person she saw when she came out.

Kelvin understood all of Penelope's emotions and accepted them, even blaming himself.

Why hadn't he protected her better?

If he had been more attentive, sent more people to secretly follow her, and this wouldn't have happened!

He wouldn't have given anyone a chance if he did that!

Kelvin had underestimated Brandon—too careless!
