Chapter 805 It's Great to Have a Husband as a Support!
Ruby had been a huge help to Penelope, and now Penelope couldn't imagine life without her.
The kids couldn't do without Ruby either.
Ruby nodded, touched. "Thanks for thinking of me."
"Ruby, why don't you move into The King Manor?" Penelope suggested. "Sam and Lucy are living there now, so there's no need for you to go back to the Walker family."
"Sure."
"I'll arrange for a driver to take you there and help you move your things."
Ruby agreed. "I'll head over now and say goodbye to Mr. Walker on the way."
She was part of the Walker family, but now she was becoming part of the King family.
But Ruby thought he probably wouldn't mind.
After seeing Ruby off, Nicole sighed. "These past four years, she's been a great help to you, taking on a lot of your troubles. It's been hard on her, and on you too."
"Mom, it hasn't been that tough. I've been doing just fine, not as bad as you think."
"You're too strong. Can't you be a bit softer? Act spoiled, cry a little? Don't try to handle everything on your own."
Kelvin agreed. "Mom's right."
"See? Even he thinks so. Penelope, you need to change a bit. There's no need for a girl to be so strong. You have someone to rely on, so it's okay to be vulnerable."
Nicole then realized Kelvin had called her "Mom."
She smiled, her eyes crinkling with fine lines.
"Pamper her more," Nicole said. "Spoil her so much that she doesn't have a chance to be independent and strong."
Kelvin nodded. "I'll do my best."
"Mom..." Penelope muttered, "Everyone else teaches their kids to be strong and independent, but you're doing the opposite."
"Because you have a husband who loves you, you don't need to be."
She muttered even more quietly, "Husbands aren't always reliable..."
Nicole and Kelvin didn't catch that. "What did you say?"
"Nothing!" Penelope quickly shook her head.
She had mumbled on purpose; there was no way she was repeating it!
If Kelvin heard that, it would be a disaster!
But then...
"She said husbands aren't always reliable," Sam's voice rang out loud and clear. "I heard it!"
Penelope fell silent.
She glared at Sam fiercely!
So fiercely that she felt like an evil stepmother!
She wanted to strangle Sam!
Kelvin's eyes narrowed. "Husbands aren't reliable?"
"Uh... no, no," Penelope blinked. "I didn't say that, Sam did!"
She refused to admit it.
Sam scoffed. "Big baby, why are you so scared? You said it, but you won't own up to it? I heard it clearly, you said it! I just repeated your words!"
"I didn't say it, you misheard," Penelope retorted. "Stop spreading rumors!"
"I definitely didn't mishear!"
"You definitely misheard!"
Sam shouted, "No, no, I didn't!"
"You misheard, you misheard!"
Mother and son argued, almost getting into a full-blown fight.
"Alright, alright," Nicole intervened. "What's going on, Penelope? You're an adult, acting like a child."
"Exactly," Sam made a face. "Nyeh nyeh nyeh."
Penelope glared at him again.
She thought the matter was over, but Kelvin wouldn't let it go. "What exactly did you say earlier?"
"I said husbands aren't reliable," Sam answered again. "What, hearing it once wasn't enough? You want to be hurt twice?"
Penelope firmly denied it. "No!"
Kelvin looked at her. "Then what did you say?"
"I said... having a husband to rely on is great!"
"Really?"
"Really!"
Penelope looked at him with clear, determined eyes.
She had to believe her own words to make others believe them!
Kelvin snorted. "It better be."
Penelope let out a sigh of relief, narrowly avoiding trouble.
How could Sam's ears be so sharp?
Her voice was so low, her words so mumbled, yet he still heard it clearly!
"Wow..." Sam sighed dramatically. "One dares to say it, the other dares to believe it. My truth becomes a lie, and Mom's lie becomes the truth!"
If Mom weren't here, Penelope would definitely twist his ear!
Definitely!
But Nicole gently pinched Sam's cheek. "You... are you trying to make your parents fight? Most kids try to bring their parents together, but you're causing trouble."
"Grandma, Kelvin... he may be my dad, but I don't want to acknowledge him yet, let alone call him that!"
"Take your time, it's a process. You and he haven't spent much time together, and there's no emotional bond yet," Nicole said. "But you are father and son, connected by blood. You'll call him 'Dad' eventually."
Sam blinked. "Grandma, have you already accepted Kelvin?"
"Yes."
"You let him off so easily? Are you sure he treats your daughter well?"
Nicole couldn't stop smiling. "You troublemaker, you're so different from Lucy."
Penelope said, "Sam, why didn't you hurt your mouth instead...?"
'...preferably in a way that would keep him from talking for ten days to two weeks!'
He never stopped talking, always stirring up trouble, never taking a break!
"Big baby..." Sam suddenly looked very pitiful. "So you already dislike me, and you don't want to hear me talk or my voice. You have a husband now, and you've forgotten your son."
"It turns out a house can't have two men in charge."
"I'm the extra one."
"You all like Lucy more, not me."
"She's obedient, cute, soft, and sweet, unlike me, a stinky boy..."
Sam looked out the window, full of sorrow.
Penelope ignored him.
Let him act on his own!
"Mom," Penelope pulled Nicole aside and whispered, "I need to talk to you about something."
"What is it?"
"This morning, I went to Isabella's grave, which is why I wasn't at the hospital."
Nicole was stunned, then nodded.
Penelope bit her lip. "At Isabella's grave, Debra confessed. It was she who took me from the charity gala back then."
"It was her?" Nicole's face was full of shock and anger. "It was her! I knew it!"
