Chapter 21

Penelope stared down at her toes, feeling like a weight was pressing on her chest.

She couldn't even figure out why. By now, she should've been used to it.

Kelvin never showed her any favoritism. All he ever gave her was hate and pain.

"Take these two away and make sure they never show up in LA again," Kelvin ordered, his voice icy.

Someone nodded. "Yes, Mr. Davis."

Fiona wasn't having it. "No way, I brought them here. Dealing with them would be a slap in my face."

Even now, she was worried about her pride.

Penelope thought, 'Is Fiona just dumb or plain evil?'

Kelvin's face darkened. "You go too!"

He almost said, "Get lost."

"What? Mr. Davis," Fiona rushed over and grabbed his sleeve. "Are you mad at me?"

Kelvin's temple throbbed.

He couldn't hold back his anger any longer.

"Go back to your place and have a good reflection," Kelvin shook her off.

"No, I don't want to! You're blaming me," Fiona started crying right away. "You're biased. Since you got here, you haven't even asked what Penelope did! Would I go to the company and grab her for no reason?"

Kelvin frowned deeply.

But Penelope's heart was racing!

Earlier, Fiona had gone straight for her stomach. Could she have found out about the pregnancy?

No, that seemed unlikely. How could Fiona know she was pregnant?

Maybe kicking her stomach was just a coincidence.

But Penelope was still super anxious. If the pregnancy got out, both she and the baby would be in big trouble.

Kelvin would be furious!

"Fine," Kelvin nodded. "Tell me, what did Penelope do?"

"She," Fiona didn't expect Kelvin to actually ask, and she was at a loss for words.

Fiona's eyes darted around, and she finally decided not to spill about Penelope's pregnancy.

It wouldn't help her, and it might even mess up her own plans!

This failure didn't matter; there'd be more chances in the future!

At that moment, Penelope spoke up, "Fiona, you're the one who messed up, and you brought accomplices. What could I do to you alone?"

Penelope wasn't sure what Fiona would say, so she just changed the subject!

Fiona glared at her, clearly pissed.

"Enough," Kelvin's face was stone-cold. "Fiona, stay away from me for a while!"

"No, Mr. Davis," Fiona tried to argue, but with one look from Kelvin, the bodyguards stepped in, shoved her into a car, and drove off.

Penelope let out a sigh of relief.

She'd dodged a bullet.

After relaxing, she realized she was still leaning against Kelvin.

Penelope quickly stood up straight.

"You used me and now you're done?" Kelvin stretched out his arm and pulled her back into his embrace. "Penelope, stop causing trouble for me!"

Penelope questioned, "Do you think this is my fault?"

Kelvin insisted, "Conflicts aren't one-sided!"

Penelope bit her lip and replied, "Whether it's Audrey or Fiona, they come at me because of you. Without you, none of this would happen."

She not only had to endure Kelvin's torment but also fend off attacks from his women.

Living was exhausting.

Kelvin asked, "You think being Mrs. Davis is a walk in the park?"

Penelope shot back, "I never wanted to marry you!"

"You have to!" Kelvin's tone was unyielding. "You don't have a choice!"

Penelope was fuming. "So, I deserve to be bullied by those women over and over again?"

She didn't owe them anything!

Why should she be their punching bag?

"What are you scared of?" Kelvin lifted her chin. "I'll protect you."

Penelope was forced to look up. "Can you guarantee that every time, you'll show up in time to make sure I'm not hurt?"

He looked into her eyes.

"I can guarantee it," Kelvin's lips barely moved. "In LA, there's nothing I can't do."

He was brimming with confidence.

He was the top dog in LA. There was nothing he couldn't get or do.

Penelope smiled faintly, "Have you never failed?"

Kelvin answered, "Never."

"Hope you always stay that way," she replied, "Because one failure could destroy you."

Kelvin lowered his head, getting closer. "In my world, that day will never come."

Penelope turned her head, dodging his increasingly hot breath.

At that moment, neither of them knew that one day her words would come true.

And by then, it would be too late for regrets.

Kelvin got into the Rolls-Royce, and Penelope stood outside the car.

"Get in," he said.

Penelope was a bit surprised that he actually let her ride in the car.

Did she not need to walk?

She wasn't sure and asked again, "Are you talking to me?"

Kelvin responded, "Who else?"

Only then did Penelope open the car door and get in.

Kelvin asked her, "Are you hurt?"

She shook her head.

"Pretty smart," Kelvin sneered, "You know how to protect yourself."

"But it was so close," Penelope said, instinctively wanting to stroke her lower abdomen.

Thinking that Kelvin was right next to her, she forcibly stopped herself.

"This matter ends here," he warned, "Don't think about causing trouble for Fiona."

Penelope mocked, "You really overestimate me. Do I have the guts?"

Fiona was the woman he liked and promised to marry. How could she compare?

She was always the one at a disadvantage.

"But," Penelope continued, "you always hate it when others touch your things. And I am your possession."

Kelvin explained, "Fiona is different."

Penelope asked, "Because you love her, right?"

Kelvin didn't answer.

Love? Not really.

It was more about responsibility.

After all, Fiona had saved him with her body, giving him a different experience.

"I've already punished her," Kelvin pressed his temples. "What more do you want?"

Penelope curled her lips self-deprecatingly. "What can I want? Do I deserve it?"

She knew her place. How could she dare to have other thoughts?

Suddenly, her chin hurt as Kelvin's fingers pinched hard. Kelvin demanded, "Stop showing that gloomy face in front of me. Even if Fiona did something to you today, you have to take it!"

He had already favored her by sending Fiona home to reflect.

How dare she still not appreciate it, even throw a tantrum?

Kelvin felt even more irritated!

"Got it," Penelope responded softly.
