Chapter 1052 The Real Trump Card, Also the Ace!
Deciding whether to drop the lawsuit was Thessaly's call.
Penelope couldn't interfere! She has to respect Thessaly's choice!
Kelvin scoffed, "Brandon still thinks he can walk away without a scratch!"
Release Paul, put the movie on hold for a bit, then recast the lead actress, resume filming, and the investment would not go to waste. Everything could still go smoothly.
Brandon's plan was actually pretty smart!
"Penelope, not just Paul, Brandon should be sued too. He's the mastermind, and his crimes are even worse than Paul's."
Penelope was quiet for a moment before saying, "I know, but the person he hurt the most isn't me."
"It's Thessaly."
Brandon's actions towards Penelope could be considered attempted crimes.
But towards Thessaly... he did every bad thing imaginable!
Thessaly was the one most qualified to judge Brandon and Paul.
Penelope still had to consider their past relationship.
Brandon helped her a lot, hurt her once or twice, but she can let bygones be bygones and move on.
She won't owe Brandon any favors anymore!
"Thessaly is alone and vulnerable, even if..." Kelvin was saying when he suddenly started coughing violently.
His throat itched, and his chest felt like it was being pressed painfully.
Penelope quickly patted his back to help him catch his breath.
"This cough, it's been a while, hasn't it?" she asked, puzzled. "Why hasn't it gotten better? You have quit smoking."
"It's nothing."
"How can it be nothing when you're coughing like this?" Penelope said. "Did you really go to the hospital and get checked out? Are you sure you're not sick?"
Kelvin nodded, "Of course. Why would I lie to you about something like this?"
Penelope found it even more strange.
'What's going on...'
"Maybe the hospital isn't good enough? Try another one? Visit a few more hospitals and get different doctors' opinions," Penelope suggested. "No one coughs like this for so long."
Kelvin pulled her into his arms, "It's not constant coughing. Just every now and then. Are you really that worried?"
"I hear you coughing in the study every night. During the day, you're in the office, I'm in the design department, I don't know if you're coughing... probably are. I'll ask Ryan."
Kelvin reassured her, "It's the aftereffects of smoking. It takes time to recover. I just quit; it won't get better immediately. It needs time and a process; let's take it slow."
This reason seemed to convince Penelope.
She slowly relaxed, "Drink more water, eat more fruit. I'll make pear soup for you tonight, it's good for your throat."
"Okay," Kelvin said, "My Mrs. Davis is getting more and more caring."
His eyes were full of love.
Penelope playfully glared at him.
The two walked side by side towards the Davis Group.
Just then, Brandon's car passed by, and he saw Kelvin and Penelope together.
A phrase flashed through Brandon's mind: strolling leisurely, harmonious, and in tune.
Being able to walk with the one you love is something he could only dream of!
But Kelvin had it effortlessly.
Brandon gripped the steering wheel tightly.
"Kelvin... It's not over yet, far from it!" Brandon said. "You think exposing everything I've done means I've completely failed, that I can't take Penelope away, and you can make her hate me, and distance herself from me?"
"Don't forget, you're sick. You threw away the medicine and refused treatment. Even if the lung cancer is fake, dragging it out like this will still ruin your health!"
It was not over yet!
This wasn't the end!
Brandon still had a chance to turn things around; his last card was Kelvin's "illness"!
This was his real trump card!
He lost the previous rounds, fine, he admits it, he was careless and let Thessaly take advantage.
But this card, Brandon would play it well; he must win!
The car sped away.
Back at Davis Group, Penelope didn't let Kelvin escort her.
"Go back to your office," she said. "You have a ton of work waiting for you, yet you followed me out."
"How can I work without worrying about you?"
Meeting Brandon alone was so dangerous.
Not stopping her was already his biggest concession!
"Alright, alright, it's my fault," Penelope said. "It won't happen again, Mr. Davis. Work hard, make money to support the family."
"I will, I'll make lots and lots of money to support you."
Seeing his serious response, Penelope laughed, "You already have enough wealth, not just to support me, but dozens of me."
Kelvin reminded her, "The shares are in your name, Penelope."
She suddenly remembered, smacking her forehead, "Oh, right."
She always forgot her "female billionaire" status!
A hundred billion dollars, that was her!
Penelope deliberately put on a stern face, "Mr. Davis, since you know I'm the company's biggest shareholder, your boss, your superior, you need to work harder, no slacking off. Serve me, make profits for me, let me have more money, got it?"
"Got it, big shareholder."
Penelope couldn't hold back and burst into laughter.
"Alright," she said, her eyes sparkling, "Go on."
Kelvin looked at her, "Penelope, is the money really enough for you?"
He was worried.
If one day he left this world, completely gone, never coming back, she would need a lot of money to get by.
With money, she could live well.
With enough money, she could be worry-free for life.
He won't be there, but the money he left could protect her.
This was also a way to express love!
Talking about money isn't vulgar; money is the only thing he can leave her!
Kelvin's question stunned Penelope.
"Are you serious? Or joking?"
"Very serious, Penelope."
"So much money... not enough for me?" she muttered, "Am I a money-eating monster? Kelvin, you should rephrase."
He was puzzled, "What? Rephrase how?"
"You should ask, Penelope, how many lifetimes will this money last you?"
Kelvin chuckled, "Don't save money for me, spend it as you need, understand?"
"No matter how much I spend, the best and most expensive of everything, I still can't spend it all."
Hearing her say this, he was completely relieved, "That's good, as long as it's enough for you to splurge."
Penelope thought he was being silly, pushed him, and watched him enter the CEO's private elevator before returning to the design department.
"Penelope!" Tina said, "I told you, no one cares about your whereabouts, go ahead boldly! Did you get things done?"
"...Sort of, but not successfully."
"What?"
