Chapter 851 Are You Planning to Pursue Monica?
"From now on, Penelope needs to be home by eleven. I don't want her hanging out with Monica all night!"
A sleek luxury car slowly pulled over to the curb.
Kelvin stepped out and immediately recognized a familiar vehicle.
He raised an eyebrow and walked over, tapping on the window with his knuckles. "Timothy, what a coincidence."
"Hey, Kelvin." Timothy rolled down the window. "Here to pick up Penelope?"
"Yeah, and you?"
Timothy replied casually, "I'm here to pick up Monica."
Kelvin didn't buy it for a second.
"You and Monica got off the plane together, but you weren't invited to this barbecue. Do you even know your place? Why are you pretending in front of me?" Kelvin asked.
"I... I just didn't want to intrude on their girl time. Two women chatting away, what would I do there?"
"I can't even be bothered to expose you. They didn't invite you, did they?"
Timothy got out of the car and leaned against the door. "I haven't even confronted you yet. Monica and Penelope are having a girls' night, we could have hung out too. Why didn't you answer my calls?"
Kelvin replied indifferently, "I was busy."
"Where did you go? Penelope didn't take you with her either."
"I had important things to do," Kelvin said, crossing his arms. "I'm not as free as you think."
Timothy was clearly annoyed. "Man, this friendship is going nowhere! I went to Crystal City, worked my butt off for the company, and you don't even give me a proper welcome, not even a drink!"
"You want a welcome ceremony?" Kelvin scoffed. "Fine. I'll arrange one for you at the office entrance tomorrow."
The office entrance? A welcome ceremony? Employees holding banners and flowers, all chanting "Welcome back, Mr. Foster"?
Just the thought of it made Timothy shiver.
"No, no, I... I dedicate everything to the company without expecting anything in return!"
Kelvin glanced at him. "Why are you standing out here? Aren't you going in?"
"Are you going in?" Timothy asked eagerly.
He had been looking for an excuse to enter the barbecue place. After all, Monica and Penelope had ditched him. How could he just show up in front of them again?
But now that Kelvin was here, the situation was different.
Timothy could say he was accompanying Kelvin!
What a perfect, irrefutable reason!
In critical moments, friends are essential!
Even though this friend had started prioritizing his love life over their friendship, he could still be useful occasionally!
"I can go in, or I can stay out. Why?" Kelvin asked, knowing full well what Timothy was thinking.
"Stop beating around the bush," Timothy nudged him. "Come on, let's go."
Kelvin didn't move.
"You think you can just tell me to go in, and I'll go in?"
Since when did he let others boss him around?
"Kelvin, come on, do me this favor," Timothy pleaded. "No need for more words, you get it, right?"
Kelvin stared at him. "Are you really planning to pursue Monica?"
"I... well..."
"Stop stalling. I need a straight answer."
Timothy pressed his lips together. "Why do you need to know? Anyway, you're already living the good life, why do you care about me?"
He was jealous of Kelvin.
Kelvin had a wife, kids, the whole package. He was the epitome of a successful man.
Working during the day, enjoying family time at night, spending weekends with his family—life was perfect!
Kelvin responded, "If you're serious about pursuing Monica, come up with a plan. Be open about it, let everyone know you're after her. Don't be subtle, don't hold back."
"Why? What if she rejects me? How embarrassing would that be?"
Kelvin countered, "What's more important, your pride or your goal?"
Timothy fell silent.
"I've been through this and I'm sharing my experience with you," Kelvin said. "I've learned it from my own blood, sweat, and tears. You're getting this advice for free, so listen up."
"Like I didn't help you when you were chasing Penelope. Kelvin, don't burn bridges now. It's my turn, you need to help me!"
Isn't it natural for friends to help each other?
Kelvin replied, "Isn't that what I'm doing?"
"Oh really," Timothy said, as if hearing something new. "How are you helping? You don't even want to go into the barbecue place, you're just stalling!"
"I'll go in, but first, I want to clear things up with you."
Kelvin stood tall, one hand in his pocket.
Standing casually on the street, both of them looked strikingly handsome, drawing a lot of attention.
Some passing girls couldn't resist taking out their phones to snap pictures.
But they were used to it and didn't pay any attention.
Timothy, however, was too preoccupied to care. Normally, he might have whistled at the girls, watching them blush and giggle as they walked away.
But not now. Timothy had bigger concerns.
"Alright, alright," he leaned fully against the car door, looking at Kelvin. "Go on, keep talking."
"You still haven't answered my question. Are you going to pursue Monica?"
"Of course I am. Can't you tell? But this whole open pursuit thing, I can't do it."
First, Timothy feared failing and losing his dignity.
Second, he didn't like being too public about his feelings.
He might seem carefree and flirtatious, but deep down, he was quite conservative and traditional.
Moreover, he worried that being too aggressive might scare Monica away.
Kelvin chuckled. "I get your concerns. I've been there. Given your current situation with Monica, now is the perfect time for a bold move. Being too reserved or subtle is just wasting time. It might even backfire."
"Why?"
"At this stage, you and Monica both know what's going on. She can tell you like her, but she doesn't know how to respond, so she pretends not to notice."
"Not only does she pretend, but if she senses you like her, she'll suppress that thought, thinking she's overanalyzing. She won't even dare to consider if she likes you back, fearing it's a one-sided love."
"Because you've never clearly and openly told her you love her."
