Chapter 853 Drinking So Vigorously Just Now
"Hahaha..."
Timothy plopped down next to Monica, catching her off guard.
Penelope noticed him, and suddenly it clicked. Timothy must've brought Kelvin along!
Monica wasn't hammered, but she was definitely feeling the buzz. The alcohol was making her bolder, more carefree, and a bit giddy.
"Hey, Mr. Foster," she said, giving him a hearty slap on the shoulder. "Didn't think you'd show up! Too bad Penelope and I already ate. How about we have a few drinks?"
"You're something else, Monica, diving straight into the booze?"
"No biggie," Monica replied. "You and Mr. Davis must've eaten already, so let's have a drink to keep the party going."
Timothy looked at her flushed face and the scent of alcohol on her breath, wrinkling his brow in resignation.
He didn't mind the smell of alcohol on her; in fact, he found it quite pleasant.
"Alright, alright," Monica called out. "Waiter, bring us another round!"
"Sure thing."
"This is the good stuff. Penelope and I always have a couple of glasses."
Hearing this, Penelope was already facepalming.
Friends are supposed to have your back! Monica's mouth was something she really wanted to shut up!
But what could she do with someone half-drunk?
"Every time?" Kelvin asked. "Did you drink today too?"
Monica nodded. "Of course, Mr. Davis. Do you even know what 'every time' means? Penelope and I have been drinking since... hic!"
She didn't even finish her sentence before letting out a drunken hiccup!
She must have had quite a bit.
"I just had a couple of sips," Penelope tried to argue. "Really, Kelvin, look at me. My eyes are clear, my mind is sharp, just a bit of a flushed face. No matter how little I drink, I always get red. If I had to take a breathalyzer test right now, it wouldn't even register!"
Kelvin snorted coldly.
Penelope clung to his arm. "I couldn't let Monica drink alone, could I? We haven't seen each other in so long, we had so much to catch up on."
He snorted again.
Penelope wondered why her happy married life was a bit different from what she had imagined.
She was happy and satisfied, but the only thing that puzzled her was why men acted differently in marriage than they did before.
Before, Kelvin would always pamper her, indulge her, and go out of his way to please her.
She thought he would be even better now.
But unexpectedly, it was completely reversed; she had to be the one to do better!
Penelope felt her freedom was strictly limited, from what clothes to wear to whom she could meet, Kelvin had to manage everything!
But...
She did drink, and she did promise him she wouldn't, so she was in the wrong first.
She couldn't throw a tantrum, sigh!
Thinking it over, Penelope decided to change the subject. "Why did you come over? Weren't you supposed to have dinner with the agency tonight? How's the Thessaly situation going?"
"Almost done."
"Did you come straight over after dinner?" Penelope asked. "What's up with Timothy? Did he go too?"
Kelvin replied, "I ran into him at the door."
With that, Penelope immediately understood.
So, Timothy had been waiting outside all along, not hanging out with Kelvin and then coming over together!
Such a little scheme, it seemed Timothy was determined to pursue Monica!
"How nice! We can go home together," Penelope leaned on Kelvin's shoulder. "I knew it. Even without me, you could handle the Thessaly situation just fine!"
Kelvin wrapped his arm around her waist. "You bailed, and Thessaly was asking why you didn't come."
Penelope's eyes lit up. "She really wanted to see me?"
Wow.
The beautiful friendship between the girls was truly heartwarming.
Penelope felt she had chosen the right person to help and the right friend!
"Someday, I want to introduce Thessaly to Monica," Penelope said. "Such a cool woman, who wouldn't like her?"
Kelvin swirled his glass and spoke softly, "Why don't you ask how I resolved Thessaly's contract issue?"
"You obviously have your ways, I trust you completely."
"Yeah, trust enough to drink without a care."
He was socializing, forced to drink, forced to attend dinners he wouldn't even glance at.
He did all this for her.
And her?
She was having a blast, completely forgetting about him!
Penelope felt guilty and didn't dare respond.
Meanwhile, Monica was still pouring drinks, filling up four glasses.
"Come on, everyone gets one," Monica said, placing a glass in front of each of them. "You came, you drink. Drink before you leave, or I won't let you go. If you're my friend, drink! Drink heartily!"
Penelope waved her hand. "No, no, Monica, I can't drink, you know that."
Kelvin was here, and she had to at least put on a show!
Who knew...
"Stop pretending," Monica shoved the glass into her hand. "You were drinking so enthusiastically just now, and now you're playing the weak card? Cut it out!"
Penelope was speechless.
With Monica around, she couldn't clear her name of drinking, no matter what!
Fine, she wouldn't struggle anymore.
"Mr. Davis, drink up," Monica urged. "I entrust my best friend to you. You two must be happy forever. You must love her, spoil her, respect her. Whether she's right or wrong, you must indulge her. If she's wrong, she's right; if she's right, she's even more right."
Penelope felt so comforted.
Monica finally said something sensible!
"Did you hear that?" She looked at Kelvin. "Wrong is right, right is even more right!"
Kelvin smirked but didn't respond.
"This toast is for your eternal happiness," Monica said, raising her glass. "Whatever other women have, Penelope must have too! And it must be better than theirs!"
Monica was usually quite bold in front of Kelvin.
Now, with Penelope and Timothy there, two people backing her up, and having had some drinks, she was even more daring in what she said!
"Let me tell you, if you ever, ever do anything to hurt Penelope, I'll support her leaving you and taking the kids so you can never find them. The further, the better."
"Do you know how much pain she went through having kids? Have you felt it? Raising two kids alone, I truly admire her."
"Four years, she didn't contact me for four years, even kept it from me." Monica shook her head repeatedly. "Look at how tough this woman is, so tough."
Kelvin listened, his expression slightly serious.
"Don't take it to heart," Penelope quietly tugged at his sleeve. "She likes to talk a lot when she's drunk, and she'll forget it all by tomorrow."
