Chapter 813 Only Girls Can Entrust Their Lives to Boys
"Yeah, as long as we keep up with the treatment, he's out of the woods."
"That's awesome, really awesome. I was so scared he might..."
After all, Isabella had died instantly.
She was terrified that even after all the efforts, they might still lose Brian.
"It's truly a miracle, quite rare," the doctor said. "I think it has a lot to do with his own physical condition and his instinctive reactions. He's a bodyguard, strong and well-trained. When he fell, he instinctively protected himself, which is why he survived."
Penelope nodded repeatedly.
As long as he's alive, that's all that matters.
Brian looked at her quietly. Unfortunately, he couldn't move and speaking was difficult. Otherwise, he would have told Penelope that he did it willingly.
Saving Sam was his mission, and he was satisfied with that.
"Focus on getting better. Don't worry about anything else," Penelope said, holding his hand. "I'll be here waiting for you to recover."
"I'm afraid my body won't be of much use anymore. I won't be able to serve you and Mr. Davis like before."
Brian knew his body would never be the same.
After healing, if he could live like a normal person, walk, and hold things, that would already be a blessing.
He couldn't be a bodyguard anymore.
He felt a bit regretful.
"Brian! Brian!" Sam's voice rang out.
He wasn't there yet, but his voice carried from a distance.
"Sam's here," Penelope quickly blinked away her tears. "Brian, the person you risked your life to save is here to see you."
She smiled again. "It's my fault. I was so anxious and excited that I forgot to bring Sam in."
At the door, Kelvin appeared holding Sam.
Brian looked at Sam and tried to smile.
"Mr. Cooper."
He remembered jumping from the building and seeing Sam for the first time. The little boy was covered in blood, eyes half-closed, nearly unconscious.
Sam had been weak, his head drooping, his face pale.
But now, the Sam standing before Brian was clean, with bright, clear eyes, full of energy and cheerfulness.
Such a vibrant life.
Brian thought his desperate rescue was worth it!
"Brian, I'm here!" Sam's eyes sparkled as he looked at him. "My hero!"
"I still remember that moment you came down from the sky, swoosh, it was so cool, so awesome! You kicked Isabella out of the window. Wow, it was so clean and sharp! Just like a super spy in the movies!"
Sam kept kicking his legs as he spoke.
It was too bad his hands couldn't move, or he would have reenacted Brian's heroic moment right there!
"Even though I was a bit out of it and almost passed out, I saw it, I remember it!" Sam said seriously. "Brian, thank you for saving me. To repay you, I'll dedicate my life to you!"
Everyone in the room burst into laughter.
Even Kelvin smiled.
Penelope wiped her tears while laughing, feeling like she had a split personality.
"Why are you all laughing?" Sam looked confused. "Did I say something wrong?"
The doctor shook his head. "Nothing. I'll head back to the office and meet with the other doctors to finalize Brian's treatment plan. Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis, we'll be going now."
The doctor led the nurses out.
Sam was still puzzled.
"Why are you laughing then? Mom, why are you laughing? And Kelvin, you always have a straight face, you can laugh?"
Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "You said you want to dedicate your life to Brian?"
"Yeah," Sam said matter-of-factly. "On TV, they always say that to repay a life-saving debt. Why can they say it, but I can't?"
"You can," Kelvin nodded. "Ask Brian if he agrees."
Penelope tugged at his sleeve. "Sam's just a kid, don't mess with him."
Kelvin replied seriously, "I'm very open-minded. If he wants to dedicate his life to a man, I support it."
Now, Sam sensed something was off.
He muttered, "So, only girls can dedicate their lives to guys, and guys can't do it to other guys?"
"Do you know what it means to dedicate your life to someone?"
After thinking, Sam answered, "It means giving your life to another person. Brian saved my life, so my life is his. I want to learn martial arts from him, to protect Mom and Lucy!"
A child's world is always so innocent and simple.
"Did I get it wrong?" Sam asked again. "What does it really mean?"
"It means to marry," Kelvin said slowly. "Are you sure you want to marry Brian?"
Sam was stunned.
No way!
A man can't marry a man!
"Oops, I said it wrong. Let me rephrase." Sam racked his brain, searching for the right words. "I... I... never mind, Brian understands what I mean!"
Brian smiled at him. "You're really adorable."
"Oh no, you can't call a man adorable. Use words like cool or brave. And Brian, just call me Sam. Get well soon, I'm waiting to learn martial arts from you!"
In Sam's eyes, Brian was the most amazing person.
He wanted to have those skills, too, to punish the bad guys when it mattered!
"I'm afraid I can't be your martial arts coach," Brian said. "My body won't return to its previous state. Being able to walk like a normal person would already be a blessing."
He had multiple fractures and a severe concussion, needing at least three months in the hospital.
"I just want you to teach me, Brian. It's okay, I can wait until you recover. I'm not in a hurry!"
Brian wanted to say more, but Kelvin spoke up, "He wants you to be his teacher so much, you should accept him as your student."
"Mr. Davis, I don't dare to be Sam's teacher."
"If he wants you, you can be. But first, focus on healing. Don't worry about anything else. You've done a great job this time."
Brian replied, "It's my duty."
"Out of all the bodyguards, only you stepped up."
"Mr. Davis, aren't you mad I acted on my own?"
"No," Kelvin answered. "Even if you hadn't saved Sam, I wouldn't blame you. I always reward and punish fairly."
