Chapter 919 Nothing Happened Between Us, Right
All the signs pointed to something having happened.
Kelvin was deceiving her, hiding things from her.
Was she going to keep lying to herself, refusing to face reality?
"Shut up!" Kelvin roared, "Brandon, get out! Get out now!"
But Brandon stood his ground, refusing to move.
Leave? How could he leave?
At this point, the only thing Brandon regretted was not seizing the opportunity to have Penelope sooner!
Paul had already gotten Thessaly; he had heard the sounds from the next room.
Brandon knew exactly what those sounds meant!
If only he had been as quick as Paul, he would have had Penelope by now!
But unfortunately, he wasn't like Paul.
Paul just wanted Thessaly for the sake of having her.
But Brandon was different. He loved Penelope; he was infatuated with her!
He couldn't bear to be too rough; he cherished her too much.
Her beautiful body lay quietly before him, ready for him to take control, and he didn't know where to start. So, Brandon hesitated, and Kelvin's men arrived faster than he had anticipated!
But it didn't matter; Brandon had a plan!
No one knew whether he had had Penelope or not! Even Penelope herself didn't know because she was unconscious!
Only Brandon knew!
Since there wasn't enough time, Brandon could create the illusion that he and Penelope had been intimate!
After all, only he knew the truth!
If he said he had been with Penelope, then he had been with her!
No one could prove otherwise!
Before Kelvin entered the room, Brandon had lain down beside Penelope, thrown her dress on the floor, stripped off his clothes, and held her in his arms, creating the illusion of post-coital slumber.
And the most crucial step was when Brandon held the antidote to Penelope's nose.
The drug was mild; just a whiff of the antidote would wake her up soon enough.
Every step was part of Brandon's plan! Leading to the current situation!
A situation that favored Brandon!
A situation that dealt a powerful blow to Kelvin and Penelope!
"I'm sorry, Penelope," Brandon said again, "I don't know what happened. I woke up five minutes before you did, and when I opened my eyes, Kelvin was already here."
His expression was full of guilt and frustration.
The more he acted this way, the angrier Kelvin became, and the more heartbroken Penelope felt!
"Five minutes earlier," Penelope finally understood, "So, in those five minutes, Kelvin threw you off the bed and dressed me. Then he tried to kill you."
Penelope remembered the scene she saw when she opened her eyes.
Kelvin was holding a gun, about to pull the trigger!
She didn't know who he was going to kill, but instinctively, Penelope knew she had to stop him.
She couldn't let him make a mistake.
So, even though she was weak and exhausted, Penelope had tried to lift her hand to stop him.
It turned out Kelvin was going to kill Brandon!
What could have enraged Kelvin so much that he would want to kill Brandon without hesitation?
Penelope understood.
Kelvin understood.
Brandon understood even more.
No one spoke a word about it, but everyone knew exactly what had happened in that room.
Kelvin only hated that Penelope had woken up.
If she had woken up just one second later, he could have made Brandon disappear from this world forever!
Penelope, on the other hand, was glad she had woken up in time. Otherwise, Brandon would be dead.
And Kelvin would have been burdened with the crime of murder!
That wasn't something she wanted to see!
Penelope slowly sat up from Kelvin's embrace.
She looked at Brandon, not saying a word, just staring at him with red, tear-filled eyes.
Brandon met her gaze for only two seconds before looking away, unable to bear it.
Penelope's eyes were filled with despair and sorrow.
He couldn't bear to look.
He was deceiving her, manipulating her, using any means necessary. He was no longer the honorable Brandon he once was.
He didn't deserve to look into Penelope's pure eyes.
Brandon had ruined her.
Even though he hadn't succeeded in taking Penelope's purity, her reputation was already tarnished.
Her pure body, Kelvin and she both believed, was no longer pure.
This was what Brandon wanted.
"Penelope..."
Penelope stood up, her body swaying slightly.
She walked towards Brandon.
Kelvin reached out to pull her back, but she shook him off.
"Penelope," Kelvin called again.
Penelope acted as if she didn't hear him. Despite her unsteady steps, she walked determinedly to Brandon.
She looked at Brandon, but not into his eyes. Instead, she looked at his body.
There were bruises on Brandon's collarbone.
Penelope knew what those marks meant because she had seen them on her own body before.
And the scratch marks on Brandon's back; she had seen those on Kelvin's back before. She had made those marks herself.
These intimate marks were now on Brandon's body.
Penelope felt like she was going to collapse.
"Penelope," Brandon reached out to steady her, but pulled back halfway, "Stand firm, don't fall."
He understood that she didn't want him to touch her.
Not even once!
Penelope wiped her tears and took a deep breath. "I remember, in the room, you showed signs of dizziness before I did. You passed out before me, right?"
"Yes, Penelope."
"And just now, you woke up before me, the drug wore off for you first."
Brandon nodded, "Yes."
"So nothing happened between us, right?" Penelope asked, "You were unconscious, I was unconscious, we were both out of it. How could we have done anything? Right? Right?"
She desperately wanted an answer and kept asking, over and over.
Penelope still held onto a sliver of hope.
She couldn't accept this cruel reality!
She wanted to find something, anything, to prove that nothing had happened between her and Brandon!
She couldn't betray Kelvin!
Brandon sighed, "Penelope, I wish I could tell you yes, but I can't lie to you. I can't pretend nothing happened."
"But we were both unconscious!" Penelope couldn't continue.
