Chapter 1028 Why Not Give Penelope to Me

Penelope took a sip of her coffee. "You have such great stamina. I can't walk anymore. Let's skip shopping today and just chill."

"Great stamina?"

Not really.

Kelvin's eyes darkened. He had been diagnosed with cancer.

Thinking about his illness made his throat itch, and he couldn't help but cough.

He had thrown away all his medication, knowing the coughing would only get worse.

Kelvin was in a state of great confusion.

He knew exactly what the outcome would be. He would eventually reach that end, but the process... he hadn't figured out how to handle it.

Should he face it alone, or let someone face it with him?

He cherished every moment he spent with Penelope more and more.

"I need to use the restroom," Penelope said, standing up. "Let's sit for a bit and then head home. Sam and Lucy should be home from school soon."

"Okay."

Kelvin crossed his legs and watched her walk away.

In a crowd, he could always spot her instantly.

To him, she was one of a kind.

Penelope, what should he do?

He wanted to spend more time with her, but he also didn't want her to face the harsh reality.

Kelvin knew that if Penelope found out about his illness, she would definitely stay by his side, helping him through the treatment and facing the merciless disease.

This feeling of hope mixed with despair proved to be torturous and draining.

As he was lost in thought, a shadow suddenly fell over him.

Kelvin looked up at the person standing in front of him, frowning deeply. "Brandon?"

"It's me," Brandon said. "What a coincidence, Mr. Davis. Who would've thought we'd run into each other at the mall?"

Kelvin spoke coldly, "Do you think I'd believe this is a coincidence?"

Brandon smiled and pointed to the seat. "May I sit down?"

"No. You're not welcome here. Leave now!"

"Mr. Davis, Mr. Davis," Brandon shook his head and sighed. "Why are you always so angry? Anger is bad for your health. Look at you, it's made you sick... such a pity."

Kelvin's face darkened, his gaze icy and filled with a hint of... murderous intent!

"Don't look at me like that," Brandon shrugged. "I'm just stating a fact. Isn't that right, Mr. Davis? Only you, I, and the heavens know about your illness, right? And I boldly guess you won't tell Penelope."

Kelvin didn't speak, his eyes growing sharper.

"Telling her would only make her worry and be sad," Brandon said. "Why put her through that? As a man, you should bear the burden yourself, not let a woman suffer with you."

"Where did you get this information?"

"No matter how well you hide it, I shall discover it through my own methodology. You once told me, 'If you don't want people to know, don't do it.' I'm returning those words to you today."

Kelvin's lips pressed tightly together.

After a moment, he spoke in a heavy tone, "What do you want to say?"

Brandon wouldn't appear in front of him for no reason, nor would he mention his illness without a purpose, especially choosing the moment Penelope went to the restroom.

Brandon slowly sat down across from Kelvin.

He said, "Since your time is limited, you won't be able to take care of Penelope properly in the days ahead. So, why not entrust her to me? I love her. I'll take care of her, protect her, and make sure she lives a carefree life."

"And your two kids, I'll treat them as my own. Sam and Lucy like me, and I like them too. If I'm with Penelope, they won't oppose me too much."

"Of course, if you're worried, I can promise not to have more children with Penelope. Sam and Lucy will be enough."

As soon as Brandon finished speaking, there was a loud bang.

Kelvin slammed his hand on the table!

What was he saying? Was Brandon arranging his affairs?

Acting like a victor, even claiming he'd take care of his two kids?

Kelvin wasn't dead yet!

Even if he were, he wouldn't be so pathetic as to allow Brandon to trample upon his dignity and reign supreme over him!

"Calm down, calm down," Brandon smiled. "You need to stay calm to live longer with your condition."

Kelvin's gaze was deadly. "Do you believe I can send you to meet death before me?"

"I believe it. You're Mr. Davis, after all. There's nothing you can't do, only things you choose not to. But unfortunately... man can't fight fate. No matter how powerful you are, you're sick now and won't live long."

Brandon's face was full of smiles.

It made Kelvin's blood boil!

"Think about what I said," Brandon said casually. "If you die, can you bear to leave Penelope alone, living as a widow? Can you bear to leave her to raise two kids and manage Davis Group alone? Kelvin, I love her. I can be with her."

Kelvin spoke each word with force, "Even if I entrust her to another man, it will never be you!"

"Kelvin, I'm the most suitable. I've loved Penelope for over twenty years. I don't care about the Davis family assets. I just want her. I said, I'll treat Sam and Lucy as my own!"

"Do you think you're worthy of her?"

Brandon replied, "Yes, only you, Kelvin, are worthy of her. But I, Brandon, can live well and be with her. Can you?"

Contempt, disdain, mockery.

Even the strongest and most capable person becomes insignificant in the face of life and death.

Yes, Brandon could live well, live long, and see Penelope grow old.

Who would've thought... Kelvin's downfall wasn't power, but life and death.

"Kelvin, I'm not provoking you. I'm just telling you, I'll treat Penelope well, and Sam and Lucy too. And I won't covet Davis Group's shares. All I want is Penelope."

Brandon laid out his intentions.

Kelvin stared at him for a long time, then sneered.

"If it were the old Brandon, I might have agreed without hesitation," Kelvin said. "I might have even brought her to you myself. But the Brandon in front of me now... is unworthy!"

"Why am I unworthy?"

"Do I need to spell it out? You almost ruined her reputation and innocence! How could I ever entrust her to you?"

Brandon defended himself, "I did it to win her over! Yes, I admit I was wrong, but my love for her is genuine!"

Kelvin scoffed.

Brandon felt guilty, knowing he had done too many shameful things.
