Chapter 843 Monica Returns to Her Country

"So that's what happened..." Penelope teased, "Next time, don't mess up like that, okay?"

"Got it, Penelope!"

"Good thing it was just me who saw it. If it were someone else, like Monica or Timothy, those gossipmongers, how would you explain it?"

Penelope sighed, "They've been in Crystal City for over a month now. Time flies. I miss them."

Tina turned to her, "Mr. Foster and Monica are flying back tonight. Didn't you know?"

"Tonight? They're coming back?"

"Yeah."

Penelope had no idea!

Monica didn't tell her, and Kelvin didn't mention it either!

"Am I the last to know?" Penelope looked at her colleagues, "Did you all know?"

Her colleagues nodded in unison.

What the heck!

They didn't tell her!

Just then, her phone buzzed with a message.

Penelope picked it up and saw it was from Monica.

"My darling beauty, landing at LAX at 8 PM tonight. You better come pick me up, or I'll be disappointed!"

Penelope: "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"What's the difference? We're landing at 8 PM anyway."

Penelope: "You could've given me a heads-up!"

"What, you got plans tonight? What's more important than picking me up? Don't tell me it's Kelvin, or I'll strangle you!"

Penelope was about to reply when Kelvin's message came through.

"Penelope, there's a dinner at 7:30 PM tonight. Thessaly and her agency's CEO will be there. Do you want to join?"

This dinner was clearly organized by Kelvin.

And it was about Thessaly's contract termination!

Penelope definitely wanted to go!

But Monica's messages kept bombarding her!

"After all these years of friendship, I suffered so much in Crystal City. I just want to vent, meet up, and have a meal."

"And you're rejecting me?"

"Do you have a conscience?"

"Is a man more important than me?"

"If you don't come, we're done!"

"Your call!"

Penelope held her phone, torn between choices.

Finally, she replied to Monica: "I'll be there."

"That's more like it, love you, kisses."

Look at that, how quickly women change their tune!

One second threatening to end the friendship, the next sending kisses.

Penelope left Kelvin a voice message: "I can't make it tonight. Monica's coming back, and I need to pick her up. You handle it; you're the most important! You'll do great. Love you!"

Kelvin replied with a question mark: "?"

She had been all over him, wearing sleepwear she swore she'd never wear, and now that he agreed and started planning, she was bailing?

Was Monica more important than him?

Penelope was really stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Sigh!

She sneaked into the break room and sent a series of voice messages.

"Monica and I haven't seen each other for over a month, and she must be exhausted from Crystal City. I want to be with her."

"Regarding Thessaly, I can't do much even if I go, just sit beside you like a mascot."

"Of course, I know you want me there, and I want to be with you, too."

"But we have plenty of time in the future, while Monica's return from Crystal City is a one-time thing. She won't be on such a long business trip again."

"Sweetheart, you understand me, right? You're the best."

After a long while, Kelvin replied: "I think that sleepwear from last night would look good in pink too. What do you think, Penelope?"

Penelope instantly understood what he meant.

He wanted her to wear pink!

This man was getting more and more outrageous!

Penelope couldn't send a voice message, her tone was too gritted.

So she typed back, "Yes, red is sultry, pink is tender! Both suit me!"

Kelvin replied instantly: "Come back early, don't drink."

Ha, men!

Once their expectations are met, they change their tune immediately.

Monica, Monica, for our friendship, she's sacrificed so much!

Penelope put away her phone and returned to her desk.

In the evening, Penelope arrived on time at the arrival gate of LA International Airport, waiting for Monica to appear.

She kept looking around, and finally, she saw that familiar figure in the crowd.

Timothy was pushing a luggage cart, Monica walking beside him, chatting away.

Usually, they were at each other's throats at the office.

But in Crystal City, they only had each other to talk to, and their bond must have grown!

"At this rate, Timothy and Monica might get together first," Penelope thought, "Nathan and Tina might take longer."

She waved vigorously, "Monica! Over here!"

Monica saw her and immediately left Timothy, running over.

"Penelope!"

The two hugged joyfully.

Watching this, Timothy smiled.

Girls' friendships are quite interesting.

"Finally back," Monica said, "The air in LA is different, it's sweet!"

Penelope looked her over, "You seem a bit thinner, but not tanned."

"Because I did all the site visits," Timothy said, walking over, "She always stayed in the office; even at the site, she stayed indoors. How could she get tanned?"

Penelope glanced at Timothy.

Timothy was indeed tanned, his skin several shades darker.

But it made him look more manly, more mature.

"What's wrong with a man being tanned?" Monica said, "You got bonuses and commissions, your hard work paid off. I'm just a poor worker on a business trip."

Timothy asked, "Do you think I looked better before or now?"

Monica rolled her eyes.

"I think," Penelope answered, "You look better now. Before, you looked like a pretty boy, slick and pampered, like a playboy. Now, you look like a testosterone-fueled movie star, very masculine!"

"Really? Sounds good."

With Penelope's praise, Timothy instantly puffed up, feeling very proud.

"Yes, keep this tan; it's very manly." Penelope nodded, "Don't let it fade back in LA. Monica likes this type. Got it?"

If it were before, Timothy would have said, "Why should I care what she likes?"
