Chapter 1057 What I Told You Personally Is True

"Hey, Mr. Davis, what day do you need?" Ryan asked.

Kelvin gave him the date and the exact time.

"Got it, Mr. Davis. Hang tight for a sec," Ryan replied.

Thank goodness, it's just a matter of pulling up some surveillance footage. Easy! Piece of cake!

Five minutes later, the surveillance video popped up on Kelvin's phone.

"Mr. Davis," Ryan asked, "Anything else you need?"

"Nope, that's it."

"Alright, I'll leave you to it then."

Kelvin was about to open the video when he suddenly had a thought. He handed his phone to Penelope. "Here, Penelope, you take it."

She looked puzzled. "What?"

But she took the phone anyway.

"Open it," Kelvin said. "This is the footage from the night I worked late. The time and date match, right?"

Penelope checked the timestamp on the video. It matched perfectly.

She nodded. "And then?"

"Watch it."

Penelope's eyes widened. "Five or six hours? Are we not sleeping tonight?"

"Then fast forward, or just drag the progress bar to any point," Kelvin said. "Check if I was in the office the whole time, never left, and no one else showed up. Just me."

Penelope got it. He was proving he was in the office all night, didn't leave, and didn't meet anyone else!

The surveillance footage was the best evidence!

Penelope dragged the progress bar randomly and stopped at various points.

No matter where she stopped, Kelvin was always at his desk in the video.

He was really working late in the office!

At that moment, Penelope felt a bit embarrassed.

She seemed to have been too suspicious.

But then she thought, something still felt off.

"Kelvin, if you were really busy working in the office, why didn't Timothy and Ryan know what you were working on?"

"The more momentous the affair, the fewer individuals privy to its particulars, the more advantageous it proves. It's a business secret."

Penelope was puzzled. "Not even Timothy? He's your most trusted person, your right-hand man."

"If I need him, I'll tell him. But this matter, I can handle it myself, so there's no need to involve him."

After a few seconds, Kelvin added, "Besides, he's currently in a passionate relationship. I'd rather he spend more time with Monica. If I keep giving him work and making him stay late, he might resent me."

Penelope suddenly understood. "So that's how it is."

"Exactly. Otherwise, what did my Mrs. Davis think?"

She bit her lip.

Kelvin pressed on, "Did you think I was hiding something from you, lying? Or maybe I was seeing another woman? Is that it? Am I right?"

Her thoughts were exposed.

Fine, since he already knew, she wouldn't hide it.

"Yes." Penelope nodded. "How was I supposed to know what was going on? You said you were working late, others said you weren't. I... I didn't know whether to believe you or them."

"Believe me," Kelvin said. "Penelope, no matter what others say, don't believe them. Just trust me."

"Because I trust you enough, I came directly to ask you. Actually, with your ability and intelligence, if you wanted to hide something from me, it would be too easy... and I wouldn't even notice."

Kelvin looked into her eyes and said slowly, "Penelope, I need you to remember one thing. If I didn't say it to you personally, don't believe it. Only what I tell you directly is true."

"Okay." Penelope nodded. "Then you have to tell me everything, be honest, no secrets."

"No more secrets..."

Though he said that, Kelvin knew very well that he was still hiding something very important from her.

Something that concerned his life and death!

Penelope snuggled into his arms. "I just said, if you wanted to hide something from me, I wouldn't be able to perceive. You're too smart and resourceful, I'm no match for you."

He chuckled softly. "This time, didn't you notice something was off?"

"That's because Timothy happened to mention it casually, which made me suspicious. Otherwise, I wouldn't have thought twice!"

Kelvin kissed the top of her head. "Penelope, I will only love you in this lifetime. Maybe... maybe someday in the future, I'll be forced to lie to you, to hide something from you. But my intention and my starting point will always be for your good."

These words made Penelope frown deeply.

She immediately looked up, but in her haste, she bumped into his chin.

Kelvin let out a pained sound.

"Sorry, sorry." She quickly reached out to rub it. "Did it hurt?"

"...A bit."

"Let me see."

As she tried to check, Kelvin smiled. "It's serious, but if you kiss it, it'll be fine."

Penelope glared at him playfully. "You scared me. I thought I really hurt you, but you're just pretending."

"Lie down." His hand pressed on her abdomen. "Don't move."

"I... I wanted to respond to what you just said." Penelope said. "You said lying and hiding things is for my good. But what I truly want is for you to tell me everything, discuss it with me, let me have the right to know. Kelvin, I don't want you to make decisions for me under the guise of doing it for my good."

She spoke seriously, her pace slowed, her gaze firm, but it gave him a gentle feeling.

Kelvin didn't dare meet her eyes.

He felt guilty.

Facing Penelope's clear and bright eyes, he couldn't feel at ease.

He bore the burden of a guilty conscience!

"Understood," Kelvin replied. "Penelope, it's almost midnight. Are you sure you don't want to sleep?"

Penelope finally lay down obediently, but after a few seconds, she sat up again.

"What's wrong?"

"This is your side of the bed. I sleep on that side." Penelope said. "I'm not used to it. I need to go back to my spot."

She started to climb over him.

Just as she was about to move, Kelvin pulled her into his arms, pressing her down.

"Alright, Penelope," he kissed her lips, his voice muffled, "You started this fire..."

"I, I didn't..."

The moon hid behind the clouds in embarrassment.

Kelvin was relatively restrained tonight. Penelope drowsily leaned against him. "You're annoying."

He just kissed her lips.

The two of them fell asleep in each other's arms.

The sky gradually brightened.

The alarm clock by the bed rang right on time.
