Chapter 11

Penelope shot Jeff a grateful look and subtly shook her head, telling him not to rile up Kelvin for her sake.

That night, Penelope leaned against the wall, hugging her knees, and only managed to catch some restless sleep as dawn broke.

Downstairs, the kitchen was buzzing with activity as the servants cleaned up.

Fiona had shown up early at King Manor, too excited to sleep the night before. She had put on her best makeup to meet Kelvin.

"Where's Mr. Davis?" Fiona yelled as she strutted into the living room. "Why is no one approaching me? Do you all want to get fired?"

Jeff glanced at her and asked, "Who're you, Miss?"

Fiona scoffed, "You don't know me? I'm your future Mrs. Davis!"

"Mr. Davis is already married," Jeff replied. "So, who are you again?"

"What? No way!" Fiona's eyes went wide. "Mr. Davis himself said he'd marry me! If you don't believe me, go ask him!"

Jeff said, "Mr. Davis is still sleeping."

Fiona bolted upstairs.

She had to grab this chance. Anyone in her way was going down!

Jeff chased after her, shouting, "You can't go to the second floor without permission!"

Fiona ignored him and barged into the master bedroom.

Hearing the commotion, Penelope woke up and saw Fiona's face as soon as she opened her eyes.

"It's you?" Fiona looked her up and down. "No wonder you looked familiar."

"Fiona?" Penelope was just as confused.

She had seen Fiona a few times at the mental hospital. Fiona was Michael's daughter, not very well-educated, and loved to dress up.

"Why are you sleeping on the floor?" Fiona asked, then smirked. "Oh, I get it. Mr. Davis made you guard the door, right? You must've had it rough in the mental hospital."

Jeff caught up and said, "This is Mrs. Davis."

"What? You," Fiona was stunned.

Penelope had actually married Kelvin?

Michael had told Fiona that the woman Kelvin slept with was Penelope, but since Kelvin had come to her, it meant he didn't know the truth! So she could have pretended to be Penelope!

Now, Penelope was the real Mrs. Davis! What was happening?

"Do you need something?" Penelope asked softly. "Kelvin is sleeping inside. He gets cranky when he's woken up. If we disturb him, we'll all be in trouble."

Fiona bit her lip and calmed down.

No matter what, she would stick to her story that she was the woman from that night and never admit otherwise.

Even Penelope couldn't shake her position!

"I'm here to see Kelvin. Who knew I'd run into you?" Fiona said. "Move aside, I need to go in."

Penelope raised an eyebrow. "I'm in my own home. It's better than someone barging in early in the morning and causing a scene."

Fiona snapped, "Are you insulting me?"

Penelope shrugged, and then replied, "I didn't name names."

Fiona couldn't out-argue her and felt a surge of anger. "Don't think you're all that just because you're Mrs. Davis! Mr. Davis will marry me in the end!"

As she spoke, Fiona yanked Penelope's blanket aside and raised her hand to slap Penelope.

Penelope turned her head to dodge.

Seeing she missed, Fiona, unwilling to give up, swung her hand again, determined to hit Penelope!

Penelope quickly and firmly grabbed Fiona's wrist and slapped her back without hesitation.

She wasn't about to be pushed around!

But then, a calm voice cut through the tension, "Penelope, try hitting her."

Penelope froze.

Her hand stopped just three inches from Fiona's cheek!

Kelvin didn't need to lift a finger; just a word from him was enough to make Penelope stop in her tracks.

"Mr. Davis!" Fiona whined as soon as she saw him. "Thank goodness you're here, or I would've been slapped!"

Kelvin frowned slightly. "Why are you here?"

Fiona replied, "I missed you and couldn't sleep. But this woman wouldn't let me in and even insulted me."

Penelope stayed silent, thinking Kelvin wouldn't fall for such a weak story.

"Make her apologize to you," Kelvin said, "Or, you can do whatever you want to her."

Penelope looked up at him sharply. "You believe her?"

"Why wouldn't I?" Kelvin shot back, "How can you compare to her?"

Fiona leaned on his shoulder, looking smug.

Kelvin's taste was seriously questionable, liking someone like Fiona.

Even Audrey was better than Fiona!

Was he blind or just under some spell?

"Penelope, you need to apologize to me!" Fiona demanded, "And bark like a dog three times!"

Penelope's tone was firm. "No way."

She might have considered apologizing, but barking like a dog? No chance.

Fiona immediately clung to Kelvin's arm. "See, she won't do it."

Kelvin sneered, "Penelope, I'll give you one more chance."

Penelope met Kelvin's intense gaze. "No way!"

His eyes darkened instantly.

She was bold enough to defy him.

"Don't make this harder on yourself," Kelvin bent down, gripping her chin. "Is barking like a dog easier, or taking three lashes?"

Penelope insisted, "I'd rather take the lashes."

He snorted coldly. "Fine! Bring the whip!"

Jeff presented it with both hands, sighing inwardly.

Penelope, however, smiled bitterly, "No matter what, I'm still your wife in name. Kelvin, who is Fiona to you that she's worth you humiliating me like this?"

"She's the woman I painstakingly found and my future wife. Understand?" His tone was icy. "How can you compare to her?"

So, the one he loved was Fiona.

It was unexpected, but she had to accept it.

Penelope closed her eyes, no longer speaking, silently waiting for the whip to come down.

Three lashes, no matter how painful, she could endure.

Seeing her pale but stubborn face, Kelvin gripped the whip tightly, his hand veins bulging.

The expected pain didn't come.

Penelope opened her eyes and saw only Kelvin's retreating back.

"Hitting you would only dirty my hands," He threw down the whip. "Jeff, you do it!"

Jeff nodded. "Yes, Mr. Davis."

Fiona was very unwilling, but seeing Kelvin's terrible expression, she didn't dare to act up.

She still had some sense and discernment.

"Mr. Davis, didn't you say you would marry me?" Fiona asked, feigning grievance, "Why is Penelope your wife?"

Kelvin responded, "She's just a puppet."

Fiona was confused. "What do you mean?"
