Chapter 870 I Just Want You to Beat Me
But he and Thessaly were completely innocent. Thessaly didn't even like him; they were only together for work.
Brandon and Penelope, on the other hand, were a different story.
Brandon was head over heels for Penelope!
Given the situation, how could Kelvin stand it?
Monica deliberately asked, "Mr. Davis, Penelope's just going to celebrate a friend's birthday. It's totally normal, isn't it? You wouldn't be mad about that, would you?"
Kelvin shot her a cold glance.
Monica wasn't fazed at all; she even stared right back at him.
What, was Kelvin going to eat her alive?
Meanwhile, Tina shrank back, trying to make herself as invisible as possible.
The tension in the air was suffocating!
Kelvin snorted and turned to leave.
Monica crossed her arms, looking completely at ease. "So it's okay for you to hug and cuddle with other women, but she can't celebrate a birthday with a male friend?"
"Who?" Timothy walked over. "What are you talking about?"
Startled, she quickly shook her head. "Nothing, nothing. I'm outta here! Heading home now!"
Seeing Timothy made her panic, like a mouse seeing a cat.
Monica didn't dare look back and kept walking until she reached the parking garage. Only then did she hear footsteps behind her and turn around.
Timothy stood a few feet away.
"Why are you following me?"
"I just remembered something I need to talk to you about," Timothy said, slowly walking closer. "But you were walking too fast, and I couldn't catch up."
Nonsense!
Monica knew exactly what he was up to.
He clearly wanted to find a quiet, dimly lit place where they could be alone!
It wasn't convenient back at the office with people coming and going.
Monica grabbed the car door handle, quickly opening it to get inside, but Timothy was faster.
He held the car door with one hand and pulled her into his arms with the other.
"Why are you running?" Timothy said. "I'm not going to do anything to you."
"It's after work hours. I can do what I want... If you have work-related matters, we can discuss them tomorrow! You can't exploit me!"
"Actually, I want to talk about something personal, so it's perfect to discuss it now."
Monica swallowed hard.
She had a bad feeling about this!
She knew exactly what Timothy wanted to talk about—the bet!
One bet had ended, and now there was a new one!
Monica felt like she must be out of her mind or that Timothy had tricked her!
Why did she even agree to these bets? It was just causing her more trouble!
Timothy was like a stubborn stain she couldn't get rid of!
"I think it would be better to talk tomorrow," Monica coughed. "I have something to do tonight, so I need to go!"
"What could you possibly have to do? Are you also going to celebrate Brandon's birthday?"
From the look of things, Timothy wasn't planning to let her go!
Monica gritted her teeth and looked up at him. "Fine, just say it. You're here because of the bet I won, right?"
"That's right."
So Monica knew what was going on.
No need to say more.
"Just forget about the bet. Pretend I was joking!" Monica laughed awkwardly. "I wouldn't take advantage of you or bully you with a bet I was sure to win!"
"A joke? So it doesn't count?"
"Exactly, exactly. I'm not that kind of person. I have principles. I wouldn't win against you like that; it's not honorable."
Timothy leaned in closer. "Monica, I wanted you to win."
Monica's back was pressed against the car, and Timothy's face was getting closer and closer.
She had nowhere to hide!
No escape!
"No, no, no," Monica waved her hands, pushing against his chest to keep him from getting any closer. "I accepted my loss before. I was willing, and I fulfilled the punishment. Let's leave it at that!"
"But we made another bet afterward. I still remember what we bet on."
Not only did he remember, but so did Monica—
The bet was whether Timothy would fall in love with her.
She bet he wouldn't.
And Timothy bet he would.
It was a bet Monica had come up with after racking her brain!
Looking back now, Monica couldn't understand what she was thinking.
Winning didn't seem to make her happy.
Losing...
No, wait, how could she lose?
If she lost, it meant Timothy had fallen in love with her!
Realizing this, Monica suddenly looked at Timothy.
"You, you, you..." She stammered, not knowing what to say, her mind blank.
"What about me?" Timothy leaned in even closer.
"Let's call off the bet, okay? I don't want to bet anymore. I don't want to win, and I definitely don't want you to be my servant."
Monica started to back down.
She just wanted to stay as far away from Timothy as possible!
If she kept getting entangled with him, something bad was bound to happen!
Monica could already feel herself starting to fall for him.
She always thought Timothy was like Kelvin, and loving a man like that meant going through a lot of pain.
Like Penelope, with all the ups and downs.
Love itself was tormenting.
Monica didn't want that kind of life, and she didn't want to be hurt by love.
Unless that person loved her more than she loved him!
Timothy looked at her steadily. "Monica, do you remember exactly what we bet on?"
She nodded.
"Then why do you think..." Timothy said slowly, "that you would win? Why not me?"
Monica's eyes widened!
What? What did Timothy mean by that?
She had a guess, but she didn't dare think about it!
But Timothy said the words she was afraid to face—
"You bet that I wouldn't fall in love with you, and you would win. But Monica, if I tell you now that I have fallen in love with you, then the winner is me."
He spoke very slowly, as if afraid she wouldn't understand or react.
Monica stared at him, stunned.
"Isn't that right?"
Monica nodded. "Yes, that's right."
The garage was so quiet she could hear her own heartbeat!
"So, Monica, even if you don't want to win, you will lose," Timothy said. "You want to call it off, but I won't let it go. The loser has to accept the consequences and fulfill the bet."
Monica blinked.
At this moment, her mind wasn't working at all.
She just stared at Timothy.
Actually, he was really handsome.
