Chapter 828 Nathan Himself Has Arrived!

"Wait, no way," Tina quickly protested. "Penelope, you know I get all nervous and anxious just seeing Mr. Davis. I can't even look him in the eye. Ryan works closely with Mr. Davis, so I feel the same way about him! It's impossible!"

"I haven't even said anything yet."

"But I know what you're getting at!"

Penelope nodded, "Yeah, exactly. You and Ryan would be great together. You know each other well, you work at the same company, and neither of you is seeing anyone. Why not give it a shot? What if it works out?"

Tina shook her head vigorously, "No, no, it's not right!"

Seeing her reaction, Penelope held back her laughter, feeling even more inclined to tease her.

Penelope now understood why Kelvin liked to tease her for no reason. It was genuinely fun to see someone's reaction when you deliberately teased them!

Of course, she had no intention of setting up Ryan and Tina.

She knew Tina had feelings for Nathan!

She was just using Ryan to mess with her.

"Tina, you haven't even spent time with Ryan or gotten to know him well. How do you know it's not right?" Penelope said in a serious, elder-like tone, "Ryan is a very reliable guy. He works hard, earns a good income, and his character..."

"Ryan's been with the company for years. Everyone knows what kind of person he is. He's dependable and a great marriage prospect. The fact that he works closely with Kelvin as his special assistant speaks volumes about his capabilities."

"You're single, he's single, why not give it a shot?" Penelope nudged her shoulder. "What if it works out?"

Tina kept waving her hands, "There's no 'what if,' Penelope, please don't try to set us up!"

"How is it setting you up? I'm genuinely thinking you and Ryan are a great match in terms of looks, family background, education, and work. If you go on more dates, have meals together, and get to know each other, you might just hit it off!"

Seeing Penelope so serious, Tina was almost in tears from fear.

"Penelope, please stop. Ryan and I are impossible!"

"Why? What about him do you find unacceptable? Tell me, and I'll help you figure it out. I have a knack for judging men."

Tina replied, "Ryan is great, no problem there. It's just that we don't have chemistry! No feelings! No connection! You can't force these things."

Penelope continued earnestly, "That's because you haven't spent time with him. How many times have you interacted with him at the company? You don't even see him once every ten days or so!"

From Penelope's expression and stance, it seemed like she was determined to set them up!

"Penelope!" Tina stomped her feet in frustration, "If Ryan and I were meant to be, we would have been together already. Why wait until now?"

"Because no one has played matchmaker for you! Here I am, starting it off!"

"Oh my gosh!"

Tina was in a panic and desperate to squash Penelope's idea, afraid she would arrange a meeting with Ryan. Right now, Tina was like an ant on a hot pan, running around in circles.

Penelope watched her, smiling with amusement.

Teasing someone was indeed fun.

Seeing Tina almost in tears, Penelope finally said, "Alright, I was just messing with you..."

Before she could finish, Tina's phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Tina, Mr. Smith just arrived," the receptionist said, "Please get ready to greet him."

"What?! Mr. Smith, he, he came suddenly?"

"I don't know either. I'm just letting you know."

Tina was stunned.

Every time Nathan visited Davis Group, she was the one to greet him, and Smith Group's secretary would always coordinate with her in advance.

Why the sudden visit today?

"What's wrong?" Penelope asked, seeing Tina's distressed expression, "What happened? You look like the world just ended."

"Mr. Smith is here."

Penelope perked up, "Nathan? What a coincidence!"

Talk about thinking of someone, and they appear!

She was just about to have a heart-to-heart with Tina.

Since Tina clearly didn't like Ryan, she should go for the person she did like. Penelope knew Tina liked Nathan and would help her pursue him!

Now that Nathan was here, it made things easier!

"Oh my gosh," Tina was flustered, "Why did Mr. Smith come without any notice? I'm not prepared, I haven't done my makeup, and I'm dressed so casually. How can I meet him like this?"

Penelope stood up and pushed her towards the lounge, "Go do your makeup and change your clothes."

"But Mr. Smith..."

"I'll greet him for you!"

"No, Penelope, if Mr. Davis finds out..."

"It'll be fine, don't worry about it." Penelope waved her hand, "Just go and make sure you look your best!"

Tina was completely frazzled, her mind buzzing, and she couldn't think straight.

As soon as she left, Nathan appeared at the entrance of the jewelry department.

"Mr. Smith," Penelope greeted him with a smile, "Long time no see."

Nathan was momentarily taken aback. "Penelope?"

"Tina is busy with something, so I'll be greeting you in her place," Penelope said, "I hope you don't mind?"

"Of course not, how could I mind?"

Nathan looked at her with a calmness that came with time.

So many years had passed, and he knew well that he and she were impossible, that there was no going back.

The year he went abroad was the year he lost her for good.

"It's just..." Nathan consciously kept his distance. "Wouldn't Mr. Davis be unhappy if he knew we were meeting?"

Kelvin had strictly forbidden him from meeting Penelope alone.

Nathan had always complied, not wanting to make things difficult for Penelope or cause any arguments between her and Kelvin because of him.

As long as she was happy, he could totally keep his distance from her, taking it all by himself.

For so long, Nathan had been content to watch over her from afar.

"It's fine." Penelope smiled, "He doesn't mind anymore."

Nathan looked surprised but quickly understood.

Of course, now that Kelvin had everything, why would he still hold on to the past between him and Penelope?

Besides, Nathan had no intention of pursuing Penelope again.

He just wanted to maintain a peaceful friendship with her, and that was enough.

In the meeting room, Penelope poured a cup of tea. "This is your favorite tea. You haven't changed your taste, right? I remember you always liked this tea."
