Chapter 500 Sam Gave Kelvin The Recording!
Penelope was totally floored when she heard that.
Sam had some business to chat about with Kelvin.
What on earth could they be yakking about?
Penelope moseyed back to the dining table and eyeballed Sam. "You roll in here solo?"
"Yup," Sam nodded. "I'm like, super strong, mighty, smart, and clever. Chill, no one's snatching me."
Before Penelope could get a word in, he blurted out, "I'm starving. Can I chow down first?"
No mom on the planet can resist a kid saying they're hungry.
She ditched the serious talk and dished him up some grub.
Sam dug in like it was his last meal. "Dang! This is bomb! Uncle Kelvin, your chef's got skills!"
Lucy clambered onto a chair. "Sam, if you dig it, eat up. I just told Dad making all this food is a waste. Now that you're here, you can help us out!"
"Yeah, you munch too. Here, try this." Sam eagerly piled some food onto Lucy's plate.
But before his fork hit Lucy's bowl, Kelvin blocked him.
"Eat your own food," Kelvin said. "No need to serve Lucy."
Sam and Lucy chimed in together. "Why not?"
Kelvin: "Your fork's got your spit on it, get it?"
Wasn't that like an indirect smooch?
Even if they were just kids, they still had to be careful!
Lucy, all innocent, asked, "But Dad, you just gave Thalia some food with your fork, so it's got your spit too."
Kelvin's face twitched.
Penelope was his wife; what's the big deal about some spit?
They were married and swapped spit all the time! They'd done way more intimate stuff!
But Sam and Lucy? Different story!
"Oh, no wonder Thalia went to grab a new bowl just now," Lucy suddenly got it. "It's 'cause of your spit; she thought it was gross."
Kelvin was speechless.
Penelope was speechless.
Only Sam kept munching away, making everyone else hungry just watching him.
Come to think of it, this was his first meal with Kelvin, Penelope, and Lucy.
But he didn't say anything and couldn't say anything.
"Slow down, Sam," Penelope reminded him. "Don't choke."
"How could I?" Sam said.
Penelope suddenly felt a pang of heartache.
But she couldn't show it and just reached out to ruffle his hair. "You look like you've shot up a bit since the last time at the amusement park."
"Wow, you noticed?" Sam gestured. "For real! My clothes are getting tight, and Ruby's gotta buy me new ones."
"I'll..." Penelope started to say something but bit her tongue.
She'd buy him clothes later.
Kids grow like weeds, and they need new threads every season, not just every year!
"I want some soup," Sam said. "It looks so good."
As soon as Penelope heard that, she jumped up. "I'll grab you a bowl and spoon."
Watching her head to the kitchen, Sam looked at Kelvin. "I'm here to report on a mission and drop some intel."
He ditched his smile and got all serious.
Kelvin's lips slowly straightened.
He did give him a mission.
But intel?
Sam pulled out earphones and a bugging device from his pocket and handed them to Kelvin. "Here," he said.
Kelvin held them in his hand. "Whose recording is this?"
"Isabella's," Sam said. "From today."
Kelvin's eyes lit up.
Today's?
Perfect, Isabella hit up the hospital to see Madison today!
So this had the juicy stuff he needed!
He thought he blew his shot today and was kicking himself.
But Sam came through in the clutch!
"Got it." Kelvin got up and headed to the study upstairs.
Sam just glanced at him and kept munching.
He thought the grub at King Manor was way better than at the Walker's!
Penelope came out with a bowl and spoon but didn't see Kelvin. "Where'd he go?"
"To the study," Sam said. "Hurry up, I need that soup. I'm choking here."
He dramatically clutched his throat.
Lucy cracked up.
Without Kelvin around, Penelope seemed way more chill.
She ruffled Sam's hair. "Why'd you come here alone? It's sketchy at night. Did you tell Ruby?"
"Yeah, don't sweat it. I got it all sorted." Sam said.
Penelope wanted to say more, but Sam dodged her hand. "Alright, let me eat in peace."
Penelope sighed and quietly watched him eat, occasionally piling more food on his plate.
"Sam," Lucy tilted her head, looking curious. "Are you tight with Thalia too?"
Penelope and Sam exchanged looks.
How were they gonna answer that?
"Yeah," Sam jumped in. "Lucy, let's build some blocks later!"
Lucy's focus shifted instantly. "Okay!"
Upstairs, in the study.
Kelvin sat at the desk, earphones on, listening to every word from the bugging device.
Sam had snagged the convo he was dying to hear.
This kid was way sharper than he thought. He'd totally underestimated him!
Just as he suspected, everything was spot on.
Isabella was playing Madison like a fiddle.
To break the spell, they still needed Isabella.
From their chat, to break the spell on Lucy, they had to find the original caster.
Only that person could undo it!
But Kelvin had no clue who the caster was. Never met 'em, didn't know where to start looking!
Not even a hint of a location!
His eyes darkened, and he tossed the earphones onto the desk. Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" He called out.
"It's me." Sam slipped in, all swagger. "So, did you finish listening to the recording?"
"Yeah," Kelvin said.
Sam said, "I listened too. Those two wicked witches put a spell on Lucy, so no wonder she doesn't recognize 'Penelope'! It's really messed up!"
He was fuming, clenching his little fists tight.
"'Penelope'?" Kelvin echoed.
"Yeah," Sam said. "Why, is that not cool? I like calling her that! Penelope is so gentle, kind, and beautiful!"
Kelvin lazily eyed him. "You've only been in LA for a hot minute, and you've already got these relationships down."
Brandon would move mountains for him.
Lucy adored him.
Even Penelope treated him like gold and took good care of him.
Now Kelvin himself was on the same team as him.
Sam, a little kid, could navigate among so many adults and win everyone's affection.
It was truly rare and remarkable!
