Chapter 799 I Was The One Who Took Penelope

Brent took two steps back and turned to look at Debra, who was still clinging to the tombstone.

She was alternating between crying and laughing, her hair a mess, and her black clothes smeared with dirt.

Penelope was about to walk over to her when she felt a tight grip on her wrist.

Kelvin had grabbed her.

"Don't go over there," Kelvin warned. "Whether Debra is truly crazy or just pretending, she could hurt you."

"It's okay," Penelope said. "You're here."

"Penelope." He was touched by her trust. But he was still worried.

Kelvin couldn't guarantee that he could protect her immediately if danger arose!

Penelope turned her hand to hold his, giving it a light pat.

He was there, Brandon was there, and Brent was there. Debra couldn't cause much trouble.

"I'm just going over to ask her a few questions," Penelope said, looking into his eyes. "If you're worried, then stand behind me."

Kelvin still didn't let go.

Penelope smiled at him, pulled her wrist free, and walked briskly toward Debra.

Debra didn't acknowledge her at all, completely ignoring her, her mind and eyes only on Isabella.

"Isabella is dead," Penelope said, standing beside her. "You need to accept reality."

Debra finally looked up at her.

"She fell from over thirty floors and died instantly," Penelope said. "Don't you remember?"

Debra was silent for a long time before she finally nodded. "I remember."

"Playing crazy won't help you. Don't think you can get away with it."

She didn't respond.

Penelope continued, "I'm here about the same thing as before. You know what I'm talking about."

Hearing this, Debra slowly stood up, looking Penelope in the eye. "Are you talking about why you went missing when you were a child?"

"Yes."

"Does your offer still stand?" Debra asked again. "If I tell you everything, you'll let me go, give me money, and not pursue this any further."

"It stands."

Debra stared into her eyes for several seconds. "Really?"

"Given your situation, why would I lie to you?" Penelope said. "Isabella is dead, and you're the one suffering the most. No matter what I do to you, it won't make much difference. Letting you live a meaningless life is a better punishment than anything else."

Debra laughed. Yes, living like this was worse than dying.

Without Isabella, there was no hope.

She used to think that when Isabella grew up and acknowledged her as her real mother, and when Brent secured his position in the company and had the ability, she could change her status.

This thought had sustained Debra for twenty years. Now it had completely collapsed.

Isabella was dead, Brent had nothing, and Debra's future was hopeless.

And the rest of her life would be very, very bitter!

"You're right, Penelope," Debra murmured. "In my current state, targeting me would just be a waste of time, without the satisfaction of revenge. It's better to get the truth from me and let me go, completing my miserable life."

Penelope looked at her with calm yet determined eyes. "So, speak. You've kept this secret for so many years; it's time to reveal it."

"Penelope, why do you always think this has something to do with Debra?" Brent asked. "You got lost on your own. The police investigated and found no evidence that Debra kidnapped you!"

Brandon, standing nearby, was also deeply shocked.

Penelope's childhood disappearance was actually connected to Debra!

At first, it seemed unbelievable, but the more Brandon thought about it, the more he realized that Debra had a strong motive! She was the biggest beneficiary!

Debra kidnapped Penelope, sent her to an orphanage, and then colluded with Brent to place Isabella in the Mitchell family, making her a wealthy heiress!

This way, Isabella enjoyed everything that belonged to Penelope! Including his engagement to Isabella!

Was this the truth? Thinking about it, Brandon was stunned!

He was also eager to hear Debra's answer!

"I've secretly investigated many times over the years," Brandon said, "but I've never found anything."

Kelvin glanced at him. "That's because you never knew Debra existed."

"Yes, I never imagined that Isabella was the biological daughter of Uncle Brent and Debra."

It was absurd. Brandon had always thought Isabella was just an adopted daughter of the Mitchell family, taken in by Brent and Nicole out of grief for losing their own daughter, as a comfort for the rest of their lives.

These revelations were already enough to shock Brandon, and now, hearing that Debra might be the one who kidnapped Penelope, he was even more at a loss for words!

He stared at Debra. "Are you really the mastermind behind all this?"

Under everyone's gaze, Debra slowly nodded.

"Yes." Debra's voice was soft, but it was like a bombshell in everyone's hearts!

She actually admitted it! Debra had really kidnapped the young Penelope all those years ago!

"Debra!" Brent almost choked, his eyes wide, his finger trembling as he pointed at her. "How could you..."

He couldn't form a complete sentence, utterly shocked by the news!

"It was me," Debra said again. "I was the one who took Penelope. Her disappearance was my plan!"

She was very calm, very composed.

Brent was utterly shocked. "I never suspected you, Debra! Never! I couldn't imagine you doing something like this! I trusted you so much! Penelope mentioned a few times that you might be the culprit, but I denied it! I believed you! And now..."

And now, Debra was indeed the culprit!

Brent was too shocked and heartbroken!

He had always thought that although Debra loved money and was vain, she wasn't inherently bad and wouldn't do something like this!

He had been too naive! Too trusting of her! He had been deceived by Debra's appearance and years of seemingly caring behavior!

"I never asked you to trust me," Debra said. "Brent, all these years, you never once asked me if I had anything to do with Penelope's disappearance."

"Because I believed you wouldn't do such a thing!"

"But I did. If she hadn't disappeared, how could Isabella have entered the Mitchell family, lived a life of luxury, and gotten engaged to a Walker family member, achieving her life's reversal?"
