Chapter 24
Kelvin gave a nod.
Fiona chuckled, "I knew you're the best! Mr. Davis, I'm off to apologize to Penelope!"
Before Kelvin could say anything, she was already gone.
When Penelope saw her, she instinctively took a step back. "What are you up to now?"
"I'm here to apologize," Fiona said, blinking innocently. "Mr. Davis is watching."
Penelope was skeptical. "Are you seriously apologizing to me?"
Fiona grinned, "Yep, I'm right here, aren't I?"
Penelope eyed her suspiciously.
Fiona's smile was innocent, a stark contrast to when she had kicked her in the stomach earlier.
"Sorry, Penelope," Fiona said, "I shouldn't have been so aggressive today. My dad already scolded me, and Mr. Davis punished me. I won't be so direct next time."
Penelope responded, "Just as I thought."
Fiona cut her off, "Let me finish. I was too impatient. After all, you are the nominal Mrs. Davis. Just you wait!"
Penelope stared at her. "Why are you targeting me? Kelvin promised to marry you and divorce me. What more do you want?"
Fiona slowly moved closer, and as Penelope tried to back away, Fiona grabbed her. "Don't worry, with so many people around, I won't do anything to you. I just want to tell you a secret."
Penelope resisted, "I don't want to hear it!"
"Are you sure?" Fiona sighed, pretending to be regretful, "You even don't care about your baby?"
Penelope's eyes widened, and she quickly covered Fiona's mouth!
So Fiona did know about her pregnancy!
"Scared?" Fiona asked, "You don't want this secret to get out, do you?"
Penelope was stunned. "You, you."
Fiona had intended to make her miscarry with that kick! So her guess wasn't wrong!
"You should miscarry this baby," Fiona suggested, "Penelope, you can't even protect yourself. The baby will only be a burden."
Penelope shook her head. "No, you don't have the right to decide my baby's life or death!"
"Then just wait and see!" Fiona snapped and turned to leave.
"Wait!" Penelope called out, "Do you know who the baby's father is?"
That night, Michael had tricked her out of the mental hospital and sent her to the hotel. Michael must have known everything!
And Fiona was Michael's daughter; they must have known the secret!
Fiona smirked, "Of course, I know. Penelope, you're the only one who doesn't."
"Who is it!" Penelope demanded, "Who was the man that night!"
Fiona mocked, "Give it up, you'll never know in this lifetime! I advise you to miscarry the baby soon; don't bring trouble upon yourself!"
Fiona shook off her hand, but Penelope wasn't willing to let her go.
The truth was so close!
Fiona suddenly cried out pitifully, "You scratched me. I already apologized, why are you still retaliating against me?"
Kelvin, who was walking over, heard this and glared sharply at Penelope.
But Penelope's mind was entirely on the bombshell news about the "baby's father".
She needed to know who the man was that night!
"Tell me!" Penelope grabbed Fiona tightly. "Who is that man!"
Fiona whimpered, "You're hurting me."
Penelope tightened her grip. "Talk! Tell me!"
Fiona tried to break free, but Penelope held on tight.
In the struggle, the unexpected happened.
Fiona screamed as she tumbled down the steps, rolling to the bottom.
Penelope stood there, frozen.
"Fiona!" Kelvin rushed over and scooped her up.
"It hurts, it hurts so much," Fiona cried in his arms, "I came to apologize, but she wouldn't accept it. Why did she push me?"
Kelvin comforted her, "I'll take you to the hospital."
Penelope snapped out of it and protested, "No, I didn't push her. Kelvin, I didn't!"
His eyes were cold. "I saw it with my own eyes, and you're still denying it?"
Penelope tried to defend herself. "I really didn't do it, I was pulling her, not pushing her!"
Fiona sobbed, "You don't have to forgive me, but how could you harm me, Penelope? I still have to work in the entertainment industry. If I break a bone or get disfigured, my career is over!"
"Get over here!" Kelvin ordered.
Penelope reluctantly walked down the stairs.
Just as she was about to speak, Kelvin grabbed her by the neck.
"You're getting more and more out of line, Penelope," His grip tightened, "Do you really think I won't kill you now? What makes you so confident?"
Penelope gasped, "I never thought that."
Kelvin insisted, "It's because I've been too good to you lately!"
His hand tightened around her neck, forcing Penelope to tilt her head back, struggling to breathe.
She laughed bitterly, "Good to me? Kelvin, you're the one who made me like this!"
Kelvin's face twisted with anger and disgust. "You deserve it!"
Penelope snapped, "Even if my dad killed your dad, that's a grudge between the older generation. Why do you put the hatred on me?"
"You're making up for the Cooper Family's sins!" Kelvin's temple veins bulged as he shouted.
And in his arms, Fiona smirked at her with a smug, provocative look.
Penelope gave in. "Fine, if you think I pushed her, then I did."
She had nothing more to say.
Kelvin carried Fiona to the car. "You better pray she's okay! Otherwise, if she breaks one bone, I'll break two of yours!"
Penelope stood motionless, watching Kelvin gently place Fiona in the car and drive to the hospital.
In Penelope's eyes, Kelvin was nothing short of a devil.
Actually, even devils had a gentle side, just never for her.
Penelope looked down at the scratch on the back of her hand, the skin broken, blood faintly seeping out.
The one who really used force was Fiona.
Under the guise of an apology, Fiona had tried to force her to miscarry the baby!
That night, Penelope didn't sleep, squatting by the door waiting for Kelvin to return.
Hearing footsteps, she looked up.
Kelvin walked past her coldly. "You're lucky, Fiona just got a scratch."
Penelope replied, "Okay."
Kelvin was about to enter the room but suddenly stopped, looking at her sideways. "Penelope, marrying me and staying at the King Manor is no different from being in the mental hospital. Understand?"
