Chapter 1077 We Agreed to Grow Old Together

Kelvin let out a deep sigh. "If it were that bad, I wouldn't even come to the office. I'd just stay home or head straight to the hospital."

"Penelope, you gotta understand, my passing out at work and getting rushed to the hospital is a nightmare for everyone at the company, the shareholders, and the board. I can't let myself make such a rookie mistake."

This kind of thing needed to be handled quietly.

Kelvin was always careful.

Penelope blinked. "So, you just suddenly felt sick and passed out?"

"Yeah," he said. "I don't know what happened... Penelope, did the doctor tell you anything?"

Now it seemed like he was fishing for information.

Penelope replied, "The doctor said you're out of immediate danger and should wake up before nightfall. Other than that... not much. Your test results aren't back yet."

"That's it? Nothing else?"

"Oh, right. The doctor also mentioned they found a shadow on your lung. They don't know what caused it yet. We'll have to wait for the test results, which will take two days."

Penelope spoke plainly.

Her expression was calm, and her eyes didn't waver.

Kelvin listened and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

That meant... his condition was still under wraps.

No one knew!

He could relax!

And with the results taking two days, now that he was awake, he could completely cover up the truth!

Kelvin had the time and opportunity to do so!

"Let's hope... the test results are good," Penelope said. "If that shadow turns out to be..."

She didn't dare to think further.

What if it were a tumor? What if it was something serious?

Penelope's eyes suddenly became incredibly determined. "No matter what, Kelvin, I'll always be with you."

She would stay by his side.

Even if... even if he had a terminal illness.

Even if he only had a little time left.

Penelope had the resolve and the courage!

"Penelope..." Kelvin sighed. "Of course, you'll be with me. We promised to grow old together. Remember?"

"I remember. But I'm scared."

"Scared of what?"

Penelope's lips moved, but she didn't say anything. Instead, she gave him a sweet smile. "You're awake. I'll go get the doctor to check on you!"

For now, she pushed aside those bad, scary thoughts.

Maybe it was just a false alarm.

Maybe... it was serious.

But no matter the outcome, Penelope was ready to face it!

A couple should share both good times and bad.

When Kelvin was successful and on top, she was his respected wife.

When Kelvin was sick, she was still his wife, never leaving his side.

That was what being a couple meant.

A couple stayed together through wealth and poverty, health and sickness!

Kelvin watched her leave the room, his eyes following her until she was out of sight.

Actually, he could have just pressed the call button, and the nurse would have notified the doctor immediately.

Penelope was stepping out to gather herself, to adjust her mindset and expression before facing him again.

No matter how much she comforted herself or tried to stay optimistic, seeing Kelvin lying in a hospital bed after surgery... Penelope couldn't pretend nothing had happened!

But she didn't want Kelvin to see that.

Soon, several doctors entered the room.

Penelope quietly followed behind.

The doctors examined Kelvin and asked him some questions.

Then one of the doctors said, "At the moment, Mr. Davis, everything looks normal. You're recovering well. You just need to rest and wait for the test results to come in. If the results are good, you can be discharged soon."

"Good," Kelvin replied coolly. "I want to be discharged as soon as possible."

For him, every extra second in the hospital was another second his condition could be exposed!

This fainting spell had caught him completely off guard. He wasn't prepared at all.

The hospital, the doctors—none of them were people he knew!

"You'll need to meet the discharge criteria first," the doctor said. "Mr. Davis, the shadow on your lung doesn't look very promising at the moment..."

Kelvin quickly interrupted him. "The test results aren't back for two days, right?"

"Yes, but based on my experience..."

Kelvin interrupted again. "Experience doesn't matter. The test results do."

"Yes, yes," the doctor didn't dare to argue with him and just nodded. "Mr. Davis, please rest well. If you feel any discomfort, let me know immediately. Are you sure you don't feel any chest pain?"

"Yes."

Penelope couldn't stand it anymore and said, "Kelvin, don't be so harsh."

She smiled and spoke softly, "Doctor, he's just like that. Don't take it to heart. You can tell me about his condition anytime."

"Mr. Davis is doing well. The surgery seems to have been successful."

"Thank you, doctor."

"You're welcome, Mrs. Davis."

After the doctors left, Penelope came back. "Why did you have to be like that with the doctor?"

Kelvin asked, "Like what?"

"...Never mind." Penelope didn't want to argue over such a small matter. He was the patient now, and she had to be considerate of him. Besides, Kelvin was always aloof with outsiders. "Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"

Kelvin shook his head.

"Really?"

"No."

Penelope was worried but didn't know what to say, so she just looked at him.

The person who always shielded her from the storm now needed her to shield him.

It was both heartbreaking and sad.

"Penelope," Kelvin said, "you've been with me for so long. You should rest."

She had been with him since he passed out, all day long.

"I'm not tired," Penelope replied. "I just want to stay with you. You need someone to take care of you. How could I leave?"

"We could call a nurse."

"No one would take care of you as carefully as I do. What? Don't you want me here?"

Kelvin answered, "I'm worried you'll get tired."

"I'm not tired," Penelope sat back down. "Seeing you get better bit by bit makes me happy. I don't feel tired at all."

She smiled, her eyes curving.

Kelvin wanted to reach out and touch her, but he didn't have the strength to do so.

"Penelope, of course, I want you with me, but," Kelvin asked, "what about Sam and Lucy?"

Penelope gasped.

How could she have forgotten about them!

Her mind was only on Kelvin's condition, her eyes only on him. She hadn't thought about anything else. It was only upon his mention that the recollection dawned upon her consciousness!
