Chapter 20
The nurse wheeled Penelope out of the operating room.
Just then, Fiona's dad, Michael, happened to be walking by with a mask on.
He glanced over casually and then did a double-take. The woman on the bed was Penelope!
So, the doctor’s earlier comment about the lady and her baby being safe was about her!
She was pregnant with Kelvin's child!
Michael quickly ducked into a corner and called Fiona, "Fiona, something's up!"
"What now, Dad?" Fiona thought she could finally relax. "Why are you so worked up?"
Michael explained, "I just walked past the operating room and heard the doctor say that Penelope and her baby are safe!"
Fiona's phone slipped from her hand.
In such a dangerous situation, Penelope's baby was still saved! Unbelievable!
When Penelope woke up, it was already dark.
She stared at the ceiling, tears slowly streaming down her face.
"Penelope, you need to pay and get your medication. Do you have any family here?" The nurse walked in. "You'll need to get an ultrasound later."
Penelope asked, "Medication? Ultrasound?"
The nurse nodded. "Yes, the doctor prescribed you some medication to stabilize the pregnancy."
Penelope was stunned and suddenly sat up from the bed. "My child..."
"Was saved," The nurse replied, "You should really thank the doctors."
Her tears fell even more fiercely, but she smiled through them.
She had tears of joy!
"Thank you, thank you all," Penelope kept saying, "I thought I had just learned about this child and then lost it."
Following the doctor's orders, Penelope got her medication and completed the check-up, then hurriedly left.
She couldn't stay in the hospital because she had no reason to!
She couldn't let anyone find out she was pregnant!
Back at the King Manor, the living room was already clean and tidy, with no trace of blood.
Penelope lay down on the floor bed, her face pale and bloodless.
She sighed, "Baby, you're suffering so much with a mom like me."
But Penelope had no time or right to be sentimental because she had to go to work the next day.
She couldn't show any signs of physical discomfort.
No matter how much pain she was in, she could only insist it was her period making her uncomfortable!
The next day, Penelope had just arrived at her workstation when she heard hurried footsteps at the door.
She looked up and saw it was Fiona!
Why was she again!
"Penelope, come out!" Fiona shouted arrogantly, "Don't hide!"
Penelope stood up. "What do you want?"
"You'll find out soon enough," Fiona shouted over her shoulder, "It's her, take her away!"
Two men rushed out and grabbed Penelope, each holding one of her hands, forcibly dragging her out.
Penelope immediately struggled. "What are you doing? Let go! How dare you do this in Davis Group!"
Her colleagues were stunned by the scene.
"Call the police," Penelope looked at them for help. "Or get security, please!"
Fiona threatened them, "None of you are allowed to help her, or I'll make sure you lose your jobs and get kicked out of the Davis Group!"
Penelope was dragged away just like that.
She could hardly believe that Fiona had the audacity to come to the company and grab her in broad daylight!
How much power had Kelvin given Fiona?
"Penelope, don't waste your effort; no one is coming to save you," Fiona looked at her maliciously. "You're just a lowly woman!"
Penelope snapped, "What do you want?"
Fiona snorted, "I'm just in a bad mood and want to take it out on you."
Fiona took Penelope to a small alley and had people guard the entrances.
This way, Penelope couldn't escape, and no passersby would intrude.
"Take it out on me?" Penelope sneered, "Fiona, you're not worthy!"
Fiona mocked, "How dare you talk to me like that? It seems those few lashes weren't painful enough, and yesterday's fall on your stomach wasn't hard enough!"
Talking about this made Fiona angry.
She thought the child would definitely have been miscarried, but it was saved in the end!
Thinking it over, Fiona was still not satisfied.
If one attempt at setting up didn't work, then she'd try a second time, and this time it would definitely succeed!
She didn't believe Penelope could escape danger every time!
Penelope spat at her.
Fiona screamed, "You actually spat! So disgusting!"
Penelope spat again. "I don't know what you did to make Kelvin indulge you like this. But don't think that just because Kelvin can humiliate and torment me, you can do the same!"
Fiona shouted, "Of course I can! I'm his future wife!"
Penelope retorted, "I'm his current wife!"
Fiona was furious. "You won't be for long!"
"You don't understand Kelvin at all," Penelope spoke, "You'd better let me go now. If Kelvin finds out about this, you'll be in trouble! Do you really think he believed you when you accused me of tripping you yesterday?"
"Whether he believes it or not, he's on my side and won't help you!" Fiona replied, "So, today will be the same. And I won't leave any marks on you, so Kelvin won't find out."
She started to approach, and Penelope quickly backed away.
She could have endured some injuries, but now she had a new life inside her!
She had to protect the baby and couldn't have let Fiona hurt her baby again!
Penelope clutched her abdomen, looking around for a way to escape.
Fiona grabbed her hair and yanked her back. "Stand still, don't move! It'll be over soon."
With that, she aimed a kick at Penelope's stomach.
Seeing this, Penelope used all her strength to push Fiona away and turned to run.
"Go stop her!" Fiona shouted to the men guarding the alley, "Stop her!"
Penelope ran without looking back, every second counted.
If Fiona's kick landed, the baby wouldn't have survived a second danger!
"Hurry up! What are you standing there for!" Fiona yelled as she chased, "I paid you for doing nothing?"
Penelope also found it strange that the two men seemed frozen.
She mustered all her strength and dashed out of the alley, stopping abruptly when she saw the scene outside.
Fiona caught up, cursing, "Penelope, you. Mr. Davis?"
Seeing Kelvin, Fiona was stunned.
Outside the alley, Kelvin stood with his hands in his pockets, exuding a menacing aura despite saying nothing.
The two men were being controlled by professional bodyguards, with knives pressed against their waists.
The knives were sharp as razors, and who would have dared move?
"Kelvin," Penelope ran to him without hesitation. Never had she felt so safe seeing Kelvin.
Even though he hated her, he wouldn't have killed her or harmed her child for now!
Kelvin looked at her with pursed lips.
As she neared him, Penelope's legs gave out, and she fell straight to the ground.
"You stupid woman," Kelvin expressionlessly reached out, catching her and pulling her into his arms.
Penelope clung to his sleeve. "You came here, thank goodness you came here."
She smiled through her tears, wiping her eyes.
Earlier, Penelope had been focused on escaping and protecting her unborn child. Now she realized her body was aching, her back was soaked with sweat.
Seeing Kelvin, she finally relaxed.
She was safe.
"Why is it that every time you disappear from my sight, you get into trouble?" Kelvin looked down at her. "Can't you just stay by my side?"
After his meeting, Ryan had asked him what he wanted for lunch.
But Kelvin thought of Penelope.
When Ryan went to the jewelry department to ask around, he found out Fiona had barged in and taken Penelope away.
Kelvin rushed over immediately.
"This really isn't my fault," Penelope emphasized, "I was just working at the company, minding my own business."
Kelvin's eyes were cold as he looked up at Fiona.
"Mr. Davis," Fiona immediately put on a pitiful and innocent face. "Penelope insulted me, called me a mistress and lowly. I got angry and wanted to teach her a lesson."
It was the first time Penelope had seen someone so capable of twisting the truth!
Those words were clearly Fiona's! Now she was turning the tables!
"I didn't!" Penelope explained, "Kelvin, I..."
Kelvin uttered, "Shut up."
Penelope bit her inner lip.
The unloved were always disregarded.
Seeing this, Fiona regained her confidence. "Mr. Davis, she insulted me first. If you heard what she said, you'd be angry too!"
Kelvin spoke, "You shut up too!"
Fiona wanted to continue, "But."
"You're the first rushing into my company to take someone away," Kelvin scolded, "If I hadn't come, the police would have been standing here now!"
Fiona replied, "I know you wouldn't let me get arrested."
