Chapter 863 They Think Mr. Davis Has a Crush on Me
"Come on, you're the boss, the major shareholder. How could I possibly tell you what to do?" Timothy quickly said, "Please, go ahead. Do you need me to get you a driver?"
"No, I'm good."
Penelope's response was cold and expressionless.
"Is it true that couples start to resemble each other after being together for a long time?" Timothy muttered to himself. "Penelope's picked up some of Kelvin's coldness. She used to be so gentle and quiet!"
Tina chimed in, "Mr. Davis has also become gentler because of Penelope. He used to always have a stern face, but lately, he's been smiling more and doesn't seem as aloof."
"You're just good with words."
Tina stuck out her tongue playfully.
Penelope walked out of the Davis Group.
She had a clear goal and headed straight to the coffee shop across the street.
Thessaly was waiting for her there!
Penelope had received a call from Thessaly while she was in the restroom.
Thessaly had invited her to the coffee shop, saying she had something to discuss.
Penelope didn't need to guess what it was about.
Fine, Penelope agreed.
After hearing Kelvin's side of the story, she wanted to know what Thessaly had to say!
Was she mistaken, or were the paparazzi trying to create a scandal and extort money with those photos?
In the coffee shop.
Thessaly sat in the farthest corner, wearing sunglasses and a hat, completely covered up.
But even so, her unique aura was unmistakable.
That's how it is with celebrities; they stand out in a crowd with their beauty and presence.
After all, their looks are their livelihood!
Penelope walked over and sat down across from Thessaly.
Her expression was grim. She couldn't even manage a pleasant face with Timothy, let alone with Thessaly, the woman at the center of the scandal.
"Penelope," Thessaly looked at her, "Mr. Davis said you had something come up last night so that you couldn't make it to the dinner. I was quite disappointed."
Penelope looked back at her. "Yeah. But he'll take care of the contract for you, so you don't need to worry."
In truth, Penelope wanted to say that her absence had given Kelvin and Thessaly a chance to be alone, hadn't it? Kelvin and Thessaly a chance to be alone!
But her nature wouldn't let her say something so sharp and bitter.
She changed her words at the last moment.
"Mr. Davis did help me. This morning, the chairman of my agency contacted me," Thessaly replied. "From his tone, it seems they're planning to let me go."
"Well, congrats."
Thessaly frowned slightly. As a woman, she was sensitive and perceptive, so she noticed something was off with Penelope.
Penelope seemed to have some hostility towards her.
"Penelope, it's thanks to you that I could get out of my agency's exploitation so easily and quickly," Thessaly said. "I really need to thank you properly."
"Thank me?" Penelope asked. "You called me to the coffee shop just to thank me?"
"Yes, you helped me a lot. I can't repay you right now. You're Mrs. Davis, you have everything you need, and you don't lack material things. My gifts would be insignificant. But I still need to thank you properly."
Thessaly's gratitude was genuine, her eyes full of sincerity.
Penelope hesitated for a moment, then asked, "That's it? Just for this?"
Thessaly was taken aback by the question.
After a few seconds, Thessaly tentatively asked, "I don't have anything else. Penelope, is there something else on your mind?"
Penelope looked away, her mind filled with confusion.
From Thessaly's demeanor, it seemed she didn't know about the photos.
As the person involved, she was unaware?
Kelvin didn't tell her? The photos didn't reach her?
What was going on?
The atmosphere suddenly became silent and tense.
Penelope didn't know how to start.
Should she directly question Thessaly about why she was wearing Kelvin's clothes and why she fell into his arms?
That would make her seem like a jealous wife catching her husband's mistress.
That wasn't the image Penelope wanted to portray.
She would never allow herself to become that pitiful woman.
If Kelvin ever truly cheated and betrayed their marriage, she would leave without looking back, divorce him gracefully, and never confront the mistress.
It would be undignified.
Not worth it.
"Penelope..." Thessaly hesitated, "Actually, there's something I've been debating whether to tell you. Now that I think about it, I should be upfront. Otherwise, it will weigh on my mind."
"Go ahead."
"Last night, when you didn't come, Mr. Davis and I knew you had something to do. But the others at the dinner didn't see it that way."
Penelope's expression grew serious.
She remembered Kelvin mentioning that something happened at the dinner, but he couldn't explain it in a few words.
Now, Thessaly brought it up, too.
What exactly happened during that dinner?
Penelope thought for a moment and guessed, "Could it be that your agency people thought Kelvin was interested in you and wanted to take advantage of you?"
Thessaly nodded.
"What?" Penelope found it absurd. "Didn't you explain to them? Didn't Kelvin make it clear when he arranged the dinner?"
Thessaly replied, "Penelope, Mr. Davis definitely made it clear, and I also expressed my stance. But no one believed us. Instead, if I kept explaining, they would think I was trying to act virtuous while being guilty."
Those words were harsh.
Penelope didn't like Thessaly using such derogatory terms.
So, she frowned deeply.
"The entertainment industry is like that," Thessaly sighed. "Our profession looks glamorous, but we're tightly controlled by our agencies, and the competition is fierce. You never know when a newcomer will push you out."
"Taking advantage of opportunities is common in this industry. It's almost normal. Female stars who don't accept it are the exceptions, the odd ones out. Resources are limited, and benefactors are rare. Everyone grabs what they can."
"There are many talented actresses who can't get a break. In desperate situations, they choose to accompany benefactors to get resources and become famous overnight."
Thessaly looked up at Penelope. "So, when Mr. Davis showed up and specifically asked for me, everyone assumed he was interested in me. They saw it as a huge opportunity, a blessing others could only dream of."
"Because Mr. Davis has never had any scandals. No matter how many women throw themselves at him, it's always in vain, a humiliation for them."
