Chapter 1034 He Has Always Been Absent, What Should She Do

The drive back to King Manor was filled with warmth and happiness, a serene calmness enveloping the car.

But Kelvin's mind was a storm of thoughts.

By the time they got home, Lucy and Sam were fast asleep in the backseat, slumped over each other.

"Just a moment ago, they couldn't stop chattering, and now look at them," Penelope chuckled. "No matter how smart they are, they're still just kids."

Her precious little ones.

She gently opened the back door and carefully lifted Lucy into her arms.

For some reason, she felt a bit unsteady as she picked Lucy up, her body swaying slightly.

"Careful," Kelvin said, reaching out to steady both her and Lucy.

Penelope leaned firmly against him.

"With you here, how could I ever fall?" Penelope said. "It's nothing, really. Lucy's growing up and getting heavier. It's getting harder for me to carry her."

"I'll do it."

She tilted her chin up. "You carry Sam. I can still manage Lucy for this short distance."

Kelvin replied, "I can carry both of them."

"Yeah, yeah, we all know how strong you are."

Kelvin leaned in and lifted Sam out of the car.

Each carrying a child, they walked towards King Manor.

"Penelope," Kelvin said, "what if next time you pick up Lucy and lose your balance, and I'm not there? What will you do then?"

He was already worrying about these things.

Every day, there were countless little tasks. What would she do if she couldn't handle them and he wasn't around?

What if he were never around? How would she manage?

Although Kelvin knew Penelope was strong and capable, handling things on her own was entirely different from having someone to help.

Who wouldn't want a reliable, long-term support?

"I won't lose my balance every time," Penelope had no idea what was going through Kelvin's mind. "Besides, Lucy's growing up. She's very independent and hardly needs me to carry her anymore."

"Yeah, Lucy is growing up."

"And we have staff at home. If I can't manage, I can always call for help."

After a bit of casual chatting, they carried the kids into the living room.

"Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis," Jeff greeted them, rushing over. "You're back. Sam and Lucy are sound asleep."

Jeff called out to the staff, "Take Sam and Lucy to wash up and get ready for bed."

"Yes, sir."

Penelope handed Sam and Lucy over to the staff and turned to Kelvin. "See? Even if you're not here, the house is still running smoothly. There's always someone to help."

Kelvin looked at her quietly for a moment, then smiled softly.

"So... you're saying I'm not important?" he teased, trying to lighten the mood. "Is that it?"

"How could you not be important? You're irreplaceable. You're my dear husband, the one I've entrusted my life to."

"But you just said there are plenty of people at home to help..."

Before Kelvin could finish, Penelope laughed and threw her arms around his neck.

"These little things don't matter to me. Anyone can do them," she said. "Besides, you can't be with me every second, watching my every move, always appearing just in time. I'm not that needy. As long as you're there when I need you most, that's enough."

Kelvin's hand rested on her slender waist.

"Even Sam says you have too much free time. But I don't think so," Penelope kissed his cheek. "Work is important, yet life bears equal importance. I didn't like you working until the early hours last night."

"Sorry, Penelope. I'll be more mindful next time."

He held her close, his chin gently brushing her hair.

Penelope wondered if she was overthinking. It was just a busy workday that made Kelvin come home a bit late. She hadn't really minded, but somehow, the thought kept resurfacing in her mind.

It was such a small thing. Although she had been annoyed and couldn't sleep at the time, once Kelvin came home and held her, she let it go.

As she was thinking, she suddenly felt herself being lifted.

"Kelvin!" she exclaimed.

He scooped her up and carried her upstairs.

Just like the night before, they were entwined in passion.

Penelope was exhausted and sleepy, her eyes barely staying open. But just before she drifted off, she managed to say, "You have to go to work tomorrow, on time... no skipping."

"Okay."

With Kelvin's response, she fell asleep instantly.

Everything else was up to him... she felt like her body was falling apart!

She didn't know what was going on with Kelvin. For the past two nights, his desire had been unusually intense.

He had always been demanding, but he used to consider her limits and wouldn't push her so hard two nights in a row.

Penelope drifted into sleep.

Kelvin, however, couldn't sleep. He kept kissing her temple.

Penelope, his Penelope... the one he couldn't bear to leave, the one he couldn't let go.

The next day.

Davis Group.

Penelope clocked in and sat at her desk, glancing around to make sure no one noticed her. She breathed a sigh of relief.

Tina was at the factory and wouldn't be back until the afternoon, so no one would engage in playful banter with her.

She put her bag down and had just sat when she heard a voice behind her. "Well, if it isn't Mrs. Davis. What brings you to your desk? What work requires your personal attention?"

Penelope turned around.

"Monica," she said. "Good morning."

Monica poked her head. "Mrs. Davis, feeling high and mighty, huh? As the biggest shareholder, do you think you can slack off? Why didn't you come to the office yesterday? Not a word from you! Do you know how much we needed you at the meeting? We called you a million times, and you didn't answer! Did you see all the messages we sent?"

"I overslept..."

"And you couldn't call back when you woke up?"

Penelope swallowed. "I didn't wake up until... until one in the afternoon."

Monica paused, then her expression changed. "Penelope, you guys were that intense... after all this time together? Really? Are you planning to have another baby?"

"No."

"Then how did you sleep until the afternoon? As far as I know, Kelvin didn't come to the office yesterday either. You two just disappeared for some alone time, ignoring work?"

"It was an accident," Penelope replied. "It won't happen again, I promise."

Before Monica could tease her further, Penelope quickly said, "I'll catch up on yesterday's work today. I'll stay late if I have to! I'm starting right now!"
