Chapter 1096 Recovered, Go Home
Kelvin asked, "So, what's the plan?"
"If Cameron says it's okay for you to go for a walk, we'll head out together."
She really wanted to experience the beauty of the world with him, but his health was her top priority.
Kelvin nodded quickly, "Alright, sounds good."
Penelope found it a bit odd... Why did he agree so easily? It didn't seem like his usual behavior at all!
But Penelope didn't press further. As long as Cameron gave the green light, she was on board.
Kelvin held her, a faint smile playing on his lips. Since this was her only request, it was incredibly easy for him to fulfill. All he needed was Cameron's approval. He'd make sure to instruct Cameron on what to say and what not to say. Done deal!
In LA, Kelvin could handle anyone except Penelope. Everyone else was a piece of cake.
Sure enough, the next day, when Cameron came to check on him, he was a completely different person, and his words had changed entirely.
"Mr. Davis is recovering very well, and he's finished his infusion fluids for the morning. Going out for a walk and getting some fresh air will help his recovery. After all, Mr. Davis has lung issues and needs to breathe more fresh air."
Penelope asked, "So, he can go out?"
"Of course, as long as he's back in time for his evening infusion fluids."
"Are you sure, Cameron?"
Cameron nodded, "Absolutely."
Kelvin had instructed him so thoroughly that he didn't dare miss a single word, repeating everything verbatim. He wouldn't dare disobey Kelvin!
With that, Kelvin smoothly took Penelope out of the hospital, strolling around, eating, shopping, and enjoying themselves.
They went to the campus entrance for snacks, played games at the arcade, and attended church services. They did all the things young couples do. For them, it was their first time experiencing it.
For the next few days, Kelvin and Penelope followed this routine. After breakfast and his infusion fluids, they would change clothes and go out until dark.
Time flew by... In the blink of an eye, the week was over.
It was time for Kelvin to be discharged.
Penelope felt a bit reluctant, savoring the memories. Would they still have the chance to spend their free time together, enjoying life without worries, work, or interruptions?
"What are you thinking about?" Kelvin asked as he adjusted his suit and walked over. "Today, we can finally leave the hospital, Penelope."
He had changed out of his hospital gown and into a suit. It was one of his usual formal outfits, with a perfectly pressed shirt and a sharp blazer. With his blonde hair, he looked full of energy.
Penelope looked at him, smiled, and helped him straighten his collar.
"Nothing, just happy," she said. "You're finally recovered and can go home. We won't have to squeeze onto that small hospital bed anymore."
Kelvin ruffled her hair, "Yes, I can... do what I want now."
Penelope caught the underlying meaning in his words, her cheeks flushing slightly as she playfully punched his chest, "You're terrible."
"Did you have fun these past few days?" Kelvin suddenly asked.
Penelope didn't answer but nodded.
"I had a great time too, Penelope," Kelvin said. "I'll cherish these memories."
"Don't say that. On weekends, when you're free, we can still go shopping and do all sorts of things together, right?" Penelope looked into his eyes.
Kelvin didn't answer this time. He just pulled her into his arms.
No, they couldn't.
Kelvin had to let Penelope go... or rather, he had to push her away.
There would be no future for them.
Right now, their relationship was harmonious and loving. But if his condition worsened, Penelope would face his death. How heart-wrenching would that be for her?
Kelvin thought it was better for her to live a simple life, even if it meant she no longer had him in her heart. At least she would live well, without any burdens, rather than being consumed by the pain of losing him forever.
He couldn't tell Penelope about his cancer during such a happy time.
Kelvin's plan was to make Penelope hate him, despise him, and never want to be with him again. He had to make her feel indifferent to his death, as if he were just a stranger, a passerby in her life. If she could completely let go and move on, he would have succeeded.
Kelvin's only hope was that she would remember some of the good times. The moments they shared were real. His love for her was real. His desire for her to hate him and leave him was also real.
Every time Kelvin thought about what he had to do after being discharged, it felt like his heart was being torn apart. But no matter how painful it was, he had to face it.
Kelvin had already chosen the woman he would use to push Penelope away and make her hate him.
"You've lost weight," Penelope's gentle voice brought Kelvin back to reality. "This suit was tailored to fit perfectly, but now it looks a bit loose on you."
After the surgery and hospital stay, he had lost a significant amount of weight.
"It's better to be thinner," Kelvin replied. "No need to diet."
She gave him a reproachful look, "You're so fit, with a perfect body. Why would you need to diet?"
"Then, how about we gain some weight together? What do you think?"
As he spoke, Kelvin playfully pinched her waist, "Look at you, your waist is so slim. You don't look like someone who has given birth to Sam and Lucy."
Penelope laughed and fell into his arms, "Let go, it tickles, and you're squeezing me too tight."
They laughed and teased each other.
A knock on the door interrupted them.
Kelvin let go of Penelope and held her by his side.
Cameron walked in, "Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis. Congratulations on being discharged today."
"Thank you," Penelope said. "It's your excellent medical skills that cured him."
"Mr. Davis's good physical condition also played a part. I've written and printed the discharge instructions. They're in this folder." Cameron handed over a file, "Mrs. Davis, please keep it safe."
