Chapter 1081 I Miss You Very Much, Penelope

"Alright, Mrs. Davis," the butler replied.

"Oh, and if anyone asks about me, just say I had to leave early for work."

"Mrs. Davis, are you still planning to go to the hospital to be with Mr. Davis?"

"Yes."

The butler asked worriedly, "Isn't it too exhausting for you to be running back and forth between the hospital and home?"

Penelope replied, "It's just for this week. I can manage."

If everything went well, Kelvin would be able to come home soon.

If not... No, didn't think like that!

"Got it," the butler said. "Don't worry, Mrs. Davis. Ruby and I will take good care of Sam and Lucy."

Penelope nodded and hurried out the door.

"Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Davis, it's cold out! Wear a thicker coat!"

It was a cold winter night with a biting wind, but Penelope didn't care about the harsh weather. She was focused solely on getting back to Kelvin.

What was he doing now?

Was he asleep? Had he eaten?

Why hadn't Ryan updated her on his condition? With a head full of questions, Penelope finally arrived and pushed open the hospital room door. She saw Ryan standing by the bed, holding a stack of files so high they nearly reached his eyes.

Kelvin was half-lying on the bed, with an IV in his left hand and a pen in his right.

He was working?

Penelope was stunned by the scene.

"Kelvin!" she exclaimed. "You just woke up and you're still on an IV, and you're already reviewing documents?"

Did he not care about his own health?

Penelope, both heartbroken and angry, quickly walked over and snatched the pen from his hand.

Kelvin pursed his lips. "I'm just trying to keep busy."

"Busy? You need to rest and recover!"

"I'm already feeling much better."

"You..."

Penelope couldn't argue with him and didn't want to. She simply capped the pen and put it in the drawer.

No work allowed right now!

"Why are you here so early?" Kelvin glanced at the time. "I thought you'd be at least another half hour."

"Sam and Lucy went to bed early, so I came early."

Kelvin took her hand, gently rubbing the back of it. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"

"I did. I messaged Ryan, but he didn't reply. And he didn't update me on your condition either."

"Really?"

Kelvin gave Ryan a sidelong glance.

Penelope had said she was coming, and Ryan hadn't told him?

If he had known, he could have put the files away five minutes before she arrived, so she wouldn't have seen him working.

Now he was getting scolded.

Seeing Kelvin's look, Ryan shivered, feeling wronged.

"Mr. Davis," Ryan said, "do you think I had a free hand to check my phone and reply? I was just a file holder the whole time!"

And Kelvin had been asking him about company matters while reviewing the documents. He had to be ready to answer at any moment!

There was no time to check messages!

Kelvin pursed his lips... Ryan was indeed innocent.

"Ryan, don't mind him," Penelope said. "Just leave the files here. He can look at them when he's feeling better. It's late, you should go home. Thank you for your hard work."

"It's no trouble at all, Mrs. Davis."

Ryan breathed a sigh of relief, thinking: Thank goodness, Mrs. Davis is here. My savior.

Once Ryan left, Penelope sat by the bed with a stern face, not saying a word, just staring at Kelvin.

"Penelope..."

He reached for her hand.

"Don't touch me!" Penelope immediately pulled away. "Do you know why I'm angry? Do you know what you did wrong?"

Kelvin nodded. "I know."

At this moment, he didn't have the imposing demeanor of a CEO. He was completely at Penelope's mercy, only nodding.

Getting scolded by Penelope was rare and precious.

Oddly enough... he felt a bit happy.

Penelope cared about his health, which was why she was angry. She was worried about him.

"No, you don't know. You're just admitting fault to calm me down," Penelope said. "You were blaming Ryan for not checking his messages because if he had, he would have told you, and you could have..."

Kelvin interrupted her. "Alright, Penelope. I'm the patient here. Can you really blame a patient?"

With that, Penelope's anger dissipated completely.

It was like punching a pillow.

Kelvin pulled her into his arms. "I missed you, Penelope. Even though you were only gone for a few hours, it felt like an eternity. You know, I rarely have this much free time. How could I just lie here doing nothing?"

He is the president of the group who is extremely busy, with every minute precious. He wasn't used to wasting time. Normally, he wished he could make every minute count.

"Ryan was here, and there were some company matters to handle, so I took care of them. I just needed to sign a few documents and review some paperwork. Besides, the transfusion is in my left hand, which I didn't move at all."

"Working made the time pass faster. See, before I knew it, you were here."

Kelvin nuzzled her neck. "And you? Did you miss me while you were home?"

Penelope's heart had already softened, almost melting.

Seeing her not answer, Kelvin added, "Don't push me away. I'm a patient."

"Now you remember you're a patient? Always emphasizing it?"

"With you here, of course, I have to play it up to make you feel sorry for me."

How could Penelope stay angry?

She snuggled into his arms, careful not to disturb the IV.

The room was quiet.

Outside, the wind howled, and the windows fogged up from the temperature difference, showing only the neon lights outside.

"It's time to sleep," Penelope said. "Aren't you tired?"

"A little."

"Then sleep."

Kelvin asked, "What about you?"

"I'll sleep on the couch," Penelope pointed out. "It's not the best, but I can manage."

Kelvin frowned.

How could he let her sleep on the couch?

He moved over and patted the bed. "Come up here."

"But..."

Could the bed fit two people? It seemed a bit narrow.

"Come up," Kelvin repeated, knowing her concerns. "It'll fit."

Penelope smiled. "Alright."

She kicked off her shoes and quickly slipped under the covers.

Kelvin's body was so warm, and he had that familiar scent.

This embrace, she wanted to stay in entirety of her existence..

She would never get tired of it.
